"Stealth 1021"

The way the cables work, I think someone posted during Dragster's construction that a double launch (at speed) would be impossible. It's probably just an optical illusion. Look back through the threads about this coaster for the "definite" overbank supports and track ...

So 'Moosh, you are saying that you thought they had made no updates or fixes to TTD since it's opening, and that it is operating on all original systems (besides cables)?

That's hard to believe.

Plus, I wasn't refering to updates to TTD rather making the statement that any changes to TTD will be used on future rocket coasters, thats common sense.

Farfel - I'm not sure what you're referring to, but I've been to the site.

There is definitely a teal piece with upward curvature and a green piece with upward curvature (both being mostly straight with a little upwards movement at the end) but neither of them have the catch car guide. It may look like that teal piece has the guide, but the cross section is from another piece. If you look at the top side of the upward curving teal piece, there's no guide. I'm not sure where the green piece is in this picture, but I don't see it.

First off ya think it might have been a manufacture defect on Evolution?

Didn't they over haul the computer and controles on that thing at least once?

Are there any others around?

They may have done atotal over haul on it inbetween the removal in installation at St. Louis.

Is It running in ST. Louis?

Also I thought I read somewhere SFGadv replaced their top maintaince guy?

The last time the cable snaped on TTD didn't they have to wait for the cable to be shipped to them?

I would think after that they would keep a spair one or to for the next time. *** Edited 9/21/2004 2:25:11 PM UTC by cryingwhiningcoasterbaby***

I believe that the last time the cable broke on TTD (or its breaking was mentioned on CB), which was about a month ago, the coaster was down from 10:30am til 10:15 at night. See the following thread:
http://www.coasterbuzz.com/forum.aspx?mode=thread&TopicID=39195

And I, for one, am impressed that the management did not just call it quits for the day and perhaps open it the next day. They worked on it til it was fixed, and reopened it immediately afterwards* -- *if only that would happen with Deja Vu ;)

In debating the whole issue of the "changes" made to TTD since its opening and whether Intamin has learned from them so as to change the design for this coaster...

Just because TTD opened without certain elements (water cooling for the sled) or with a different setup for others (ventilation system within the hydraulic room) doesn't mean that that was how Intamin originally spec'ed the ride. Cedar Point's planning and design office does have some say in what all does and doesn't go into the completed project.

Obviously there have been lessons learned both by Intamin and Cedar Point as a result of TTD's numerous issues. The ride operates now with uptime greatly exceeding that of last year. What should be questioned though is how many of the changes/additions made to the ride were actually in the original proposal.

Of course, this is not all to say that I think SFGAdv is making a wise decision. Even if TTD had zero downtime it would still fail to operate fairly often simply due to moderate winds or even the slightest bit of rain.

I also forgot to mention in my "site report" that it looks to be a completely parking lot coaster. I saw no indication of any attempt to remove the asphalt from the site. Unlike S:UF where the lot became a big dirt pit during construction and later got grass, this site has footers pourder and setting in the middle of parking spaces.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"

Yeah, that will go along well with the theme. "Amidst an expansive jungle of asphalt..."

It's still me, here from the beginning back in 1999. Add 1500+ posts to the number I have in the info section if you care about such things.
I think the biggest problem is the size of the ride. Xcelerator seems to be settling into reliablity, as is Storm Runner.

And yet Dragster still had its issues- problems that I have never heard of the smaller rocket coasters having. I don't think that Xcelerator has snapped a cable yet (and its been open for more than two years, all year-round), nor have I heard of the overheating problems with the catch car as has happened with TTD.

I just think that the further you push that ride system, the more problems you will have.

The only logical explanation for the cable snapping is to replace it with yarn...duh

Well isn't it rumored to have jungle theming? They never said it had to be a jungle in Asia! ;)

OMG I have a new sig!!!
Just a thought to the name stealth. I know Paramount Great Americas stealth is no more, but could they possibly have rights to the name for when they used it? Just trying to disprove the name stealth. :)

The number one reason you know you are an engineer: The world revolves around you because YOU chose the coordinate system.
I have no clue about the name, but to prove a point about what SFSLGuy said, there has been a coaster called Silver Bullet at Frontier City since 1986, and yet Knott's is using the name for a brand new ride.

Anyway, I'm not sure how protective parks are about the names of their rides. Then again, I don't think Frontier City copyrighted the name...

Knotts Halloween Haunt- Everyone has to go sometime....

Name trademarking at amusement parks seems to be a newer trend; I certainly don't remember all the (TM) symbols on park advertisements a few years ago, but now it seems to be common practice. Paramount may have trademarked the name "Stealth" for their flyer, but if Six Flags named the ride "Stealth Parking Lot" or something involving more than just that one word, then I don't think that they would be infringing on the trademark.

IMHO, "Stealth Parking Lot" would be a crappy name for a new record-breaking coaster ;)

The inverted coaster idea does sound wicked cool, if a bit painful...

Dorney/Hershey/Jersey Shore/Tsunami (Clementon) are all definitely competition for SFGadv...even throw Sesame Place in there for the little tykes and families (since SF can't attract them very well)...

I can't wait to hear the announcement! :)

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger
