Borox IS safe. I use in my cat's litter boxes to help control the smell.
Am I still reading Coasterbuzz? ;^)
Yes. It's just we have do have other intrest BESIDES coaster here. Getting back to how safe the stuff is, if my cats haven't croked, the stuff is safe.

You mean this?

Boric acid is supposed to be environmentally friendly, but since it was mentioned that maintenance crews have to limit their exposure to the track, I wonder if there are other preservatives in the track as well. And also whether there would be any issues with how the track could be dismantled and disposed.
I don't know what's changed over the last 15 years or so, but this is what "pressure-treated" used to mean in the early-mid 90s. http://www.epa.gov/oppad001/reregistration/cca/
Pretty sure that was made illegal for use in playgrounds and such, and I know it was part of the reason Hercules was a pain in the butt to dispose of, but I'd be surprised if Sonny used anything different, considering its age.
CCA has been used to pressure treat lumber since the 1940s. Since the 1970s, the majority of the wood used in outdoor residential settings has been CCA-treated wood. Pressure treated wood containing CCA is no longer being produced for use in most residential settings, including decks and playsets

The wood was also soaked in vats for 30 days to make the stain last 30 years.
I wonder now if they could've gotten away with only soaking it for 10...
I thought they put fermaldihide(sp) into the wood?
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Nicely played, sir. +1 internets... :)
Oh, and a PS for all the questions about pressure-treated lumber. I found a decent resource since I knew my understanding had probably fallen out-of-date. For those interested:

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)
I worked on SOB the year it was built and helped clean up the area before it opened. If I remember correctly the wood had trace amounts of Arsenic in it. For this reason they made us wear gloves anytime we touched the wood. We also had a box of gloves to give to riders whenever we had to evac them from the ride. Of course I think this was being overly cautious because we were told someone building the ride had a large splinter stuck in their hand for a few days and didn't suffer any health problems.
^I don't think there's such thing as being overly cautious when it comes to evacuating park guests from a coaster, especially one of that size. Just because Joe Unionworker didn't get a serious infection doesn't mean the wood is safe to the touch.
I call Cedar Point my home park even though I live in the Chicago Suburbs.
I handled CCA treated lumber for a few years, got splinters, loaded tons of it onto trucks bound for construction sites....no gloves ever. I'm not saying it's "harmless", but some of the comments make me think I should be dead from all that skin-contact. I'm not... ;)
CCA = Chromium, Copper, Arsenic.
By the way, did anybody read Chuck's interview about the opening of the Beast? It's over on Newsplusnotes. (Man, I keep referring to that site lately -- I swear I'm not getting paid for PR.) Anyway , it's a fun read.

. I wrote that for ACE's Rollercoaster a few years ago for Beast 30th Anviverssary 2004? A year in which I got to ride Papa Beast on April 13th again. But it was Sunny and warm lol :). Gator and several others have several articles over the years. As bad as my spelling and stuff are. Even the editors missed some things :)
^Your article was for Beast, mine was a CCI that Herschend is still scratching their heads over. You win that one. ;)
