Son of Beast closes

I know I'm late to the party, but from the financial side, I think we all need a reminder of the concept of "sunken cost." Regardless of how much CF or PP put into the ride, it is in its current state and the options for the future are unchanged. If CF had put a trillion dollars into the ride it would not change the future options (it would be a sunken cost) and if CF had been paid a trillion dollars to take the ride, it would not change the future options. Hopefully, the execs at CF realize this and don't base their decision on how much they put in and/or how much PP put in because it's really irrelevant to the decision.

I would hope the main factor would be whether it's worthwhile to keep it when they'll face a lawsuit like this every year.

SOB design = violent = greater chance of aggrevating pre-existing health conditions = lawsuits!

Of course it is, it's an inanimate object... ;) But, this doesn't mean that the ride is around to stay.

The article states that CF has made no decision on what they will do with the ride even though it's cleared to operate.HMM, Its either gettin taered down or severely changed. All along I've said the rose bowl is the problem. Since first year, I've noticed nothing painful except there.Chuck

^Are you thinking re-design or complete
removal? Is it even worth taking out the
Rose Bowl and re-designing or has enough money
already been sunk into Son of Beast? Just
curious as to your opinion and the opinions of
others.

SOB: poorly designed? Or are all the injuries karmic payback for PKI removing the beloved Flyers? Discuss.

;)

Moosh, I can see that.

I would think a decision to re-design or remove would be made after the season is over. The question now is when they could open it again and whether they deem that as a worthwhile venture.

Mamoosh, I couldn't have said it better. I miss those things so much... especially considering they put a 3-Point game in their place. *insert four letter word*

As for Son of Beast, I could see it going either way. Because it's Kings Island, I bet they open it back up. If it were a Busch or Disney park, I don't think it would have a chance.

I call Cedar Point my home park even though I live in the Chicago Suburbs.

D_Vo I think the flyer thing was a running joke on me abiet if they were still there, They'd still be the third best ride in the park. Diamondback, FOF, Flyers, Delirium.Sad that they'd build 25 million dollar rides to bring people in and get rid of 100,000 dollar rides that keep people coming back.(NOT CEDAR FAIR) But I wish they'd get the Priemier model :)

I got to ride the flyers this week :)

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

While not the flyers, I got to ride the Air Crows at Indiana Beach. For those who have not made the trek to the middle of no where Indiana, they are built on a platform over the lake. When you get going you are flying over the water.

Ok, is the Lemon Chill Guy here? Is the ride going to reopen this season?

Fever I really enjoy the Simpsons. It's just a shame that I am starting to LOOK like Homer.

I just heard that kings island is selling son of beast tshirts and other items at clearence prices. I hear that some son of beast t-shirts are selling for under $3.

I think we may have seen the last of son of beast.

That said, this is also NOT the first time Son of Beast items have been clearanced. The ride has an ugly logo and I suspect its merch has never sold well.

There are Legend and Raven t-shirts on clearance at Holiday World. I do not think those rides are going anywhere, but the shirts have been around for more than a few years.

With the ride being down, no one is riding it, no one is getting excited about riding it, no one is buying SOB merchandise at regular price. What to do, RUN A SALE.

If SOB returns, they will have more t-shirts made if they need them. In the mean time they at least are trying to recover their cost.

Now the Nick stuff being on sale from 50-75% off is more telling about the future IMO.

I agree. They usually have new merch for every big ride every year.

Don't know if this had been posted, you can read ride repair logs. I guess they ran out of SOB pages so they had to get some Racer pages to right repair work that had been done.
