Six Flags Worlds of Adventure to get approval for hyper

Posted | Contributed by Alan

Six Flags Worlds of Adventure has been granted a height variance to build a 210-foot coaster in the Bainbridge Township side of the park. As a condition of the approval, the park agreed not to build in residential and forested areas, and agreed not to seek annexation to the City of Aurora.

Arrow's 4th Dimension. Think of the great marketing ploy the 4D would be against all of Cedar Point's "toys". I think the 4D would being in more people than a typical Intamin hyper. I also wonder how many people would do the "why go to SFWOA to ride a 200 foot Intamin, when CP has a 300 foot Intamin?" Some food for thought...but I know I will go at least once to ride it when it opens...

Ok, who brought the Intiman rumor back to life? It's a Morgan hyper for crying out loud and that hasn't changed since Fall 2001 when they first try to get it approved. It's not being built to beat out Cedar Point, they could care less about that. Six Flags said it clearly while presenting to the board that the Sea World side of the park was becoming empty and they wanted to attract more of the crowd to that side of the park by expanding with a major attraction and that with the park's 40% increase in attendance that they wanted to keeps the guest coming with something to look forward to. If you don't believe me, then go read the records. *** This post was edited by Vertigo on 5/25/2002. ***
Are any other rides or attractions planned for next year?
My friend said it would be cool if they could build it in the Lake and have it skim the water at times.
The south half of the Marine Park is in Aurora. I would wager that more then 80% of the company's holdings for the park are in Geauga County (thus Bainbridge Township). I would bet money that the new coaster will start behind the Aquarium (as stated) and stay in the parking lot, wrap around the Pirates theaterto an area next to the dolphins cove but "behind" the ski stadium. If you stand in the New Orleans Night area of the park that is actually very close to the stadium. I can't imagine the ride cutting into the midway, plus that was the last ditch plan from last year after Aurora squashed the giga concept on the hill.

As to why the park would allow annezation? Clearly because if they did Aurora would release all limitations in the current Bainbridge portions of the park in exchange of protecting its residents along US 43. The city wants the tax revenue, but the park would like to not to have to take Bainbridge to court every other year to expand. And what does the residents of Aurora care if there is a mega/hyper/giga monster out next to the RWB??

In order to build a coaster next year, the park has put in with Bainbridge and will never have any success with Aurora in the near future. But then again i don't care because there will be at least one new coaster in Ohio next year :)

Ok, I'm going to get killed for this... but I hope Vekoma gets into the hyper game and SFWoA gets one from them! As long as they can make it with a ride as sweet as Deja Vu, and as reliable as a B&M, it would be the best hyper in the world. It does look like Vekoma does some things right, wooden coasters. Maybe they just aren't a very good looping coaster company, but thier woodies look like masterpieces, so maybe if they made hypers, they would too.

Less than 2 weeks until SFGAm opens!

The Venkoma woodies are rough and vibrant, good courses, but they really got the shake. The Son of Beast shake. Wonder how good Morgan has improved and what they have instore for this coaster...

Lake Compounce-So Fresh and So Clean Clean

Yeah, the PD diagram almost looked like the ride would start right on or almost in the lake.

Who even knows if it's a coster yet? What if it is a DROP TOWER a-la INTAMIN.... think Six Flags Over Georgia...... just my opinion, while i'd love to see a S:ROS clone or even another BM Hyper (just gettin back from a trip including both SFGrAdv and SFA) i'd love to see em both, considering i'm ONLY 4 hours away from SFWoA...

It would be great, i just hope it's not a DEJA VU.... I vote for anything besides a Morgan/Arrow/Vekoma.....

After riding Steel Eel at Sea World in San Antonio on Saturday, I can honestly say that the Morgan design has gotten much more intense. Steel Eel is only 150ft. tall, but your butt is out of the seat on every single hill, which there are a mulitude of. If was the deal breaker as far as I'm concerned when it comes to height on a steel non-inverting coaster.

2002, the year the Six Flags America bashing stops.
The more I think about it....A 4-D would be perfect. Cedar Point has a Hyper and a Giga, SFWoA is doing a good job in having different style coasters then CP so why not go to the next level and get a 4-D, something that CP can't even come close to. The GP most likley doesn't even know about X ( that is those in the Midwest and East coast) so the potential of people who would come to the park is great.
I agree with the few others that feel the location posted in the Plain is strange. That would be a HORRIBLE place for a hyper coaster! It would destroy some of the best areas of the park- a lift hill right benind the Ski Stadium? WHAT?! The only place near the Aquarium that the station could go is the land adjacent to the employee lounge- but it floods ALL the time- and when it is not flooded provides a great scenic view of lake and otherside of the park.

Also this location would place the coaster right next to their brand new Tiger Island. Could all that noise from a huge coaster be good for the cats? How about their trainers- if they are in the yard with a tiger who gets scared from the lift hill noise- the cat could displace fear into agression on the trainer. Not good.

Not to mention how gross it would look to have a coaster be right in to middle of a walkway. What are they thinking?? That location is the worst idea I have ever heard of, EVER!

Also- SF needs room to build a new stadium for their whales. This is very important if they want the whales to be able to successfully breed. The VIP parking lot would be a ideal place for a new, bigger, better stadium- but not if there is a coaster right on top of it.

What are they thinking?!

Oh BTW; the county line cuts the stringray touch pool (@ Aquarium) in half and heads towords the Shark Encounter.

The county line runs east-west in a straight line running through the Wave pool area through Turtle Beach, across the southern quarter of the lake, through the tidal pool and the Lakeside Cafe burger joint (which is funny because the burger joint is in Aurora and the employee lounge which is attached to it is in Bainbridge). From there the line runs toward the dolphin cove just north of the marine main gates (which are in Aurora) and staight out into the parking lot. The only attractions in the park that are in Portage County (Aurora) is the two aquarium stadiums, the Penguin Encounter, the Pearl Diving thing, the marine side cateering hill, the marine side main gates and shops and food stands in that area, the new Chinese buffetand the Pizza Pier building. On the ride side it's just part of the Turtle Beach, speed slides, the Ballroom and most of the Wave. All of the costers are in Bainbride as is most of the marine park. Aurora holds little share of the land that the park owns and operates in.
You only can go through so many overbanked turns. I am glad it is going to be a Morgan. I think Six Flags wants to compete with Cedar Point by putting in a more modern version of Magnum by Morgan..... then Magnum won't have as much apeal.

If that made sense, then you need help! *** This post was edited by CoasterCrazyOne on 6/1/2002. ***

I vote for a B&M hyper with a 210ft. lift, and a 225ft. drop into a tunnel. I love their hyper cars.
