All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

Faster Than a speeding bullet. More powerful than a locomotive. Up in the sky it's a bird, it's a plane, it's ROBB ALVEY.
It would be awesome if Great America was getting a 4D in Shock Wave's place, and the Flyer went somewhere else. This would be a reasonable thing to do after last year's 2 coasters in one season thing. ;)

Yes, anything's possible. The possibility of a 4d just happens to be 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,00,000 or something like that. I agree that if we do get one, any attachtment I have to Shock Wave goes right out the window. But since we won't be getting one, I REALLY don't think it should go. And there's still a smidgen of hope.
As for the competition thing, Cedar Point is the closest major park to SFGAm. It's closer than VallyFair!, SFOStL, and PKI. It's even closer than Holiday World (though not Big Chief Cart's and Coasters. I got all this on the RCDB, by the way.). So, with the nearest competion (even as good as it is) so far away, SFGAm really has no competition.

for those that believe the coaster is going to go where Cajun Cliffhanger, Power Dive, and East River Crawler were: do you people have any idea how far apart and how many obstacles there are in between those rides? assuming they did tear out the resturants, you still have a whole freaking midway there! and there isn't a whole lot of land to do anything there. as I said in another thread, even if you can fit the ride in, there's not place for a queue. on top of that, I believe that the first ideas for what would replace Power Dive was a Ferris Wheel. this is very logical since they took out the Sky Whirl and since SFGA needs some more family oriented rides. to put a coaster there would be next to impossible and a bad idea on SFGA's part.
with all the activety around SW, its time to face facts: its going. I know it looks nice, but looks don't equal money and a SBNO coaster isn't what SFGA needs (espically after the Deja Vu spectacle). on top of that, why is everyone whining that a crappy Arrow megalooper is being replaced with what is, by all accounts, a one of a kind experience?

Do any of you know how to build a sundial out of a pen and a donut?
uh oh, sounds like someone has a case of the mondays.
Here's why, Bob: 1)It was at one time arguably the greatest thrill machine on the planet. Many of us have fond memories of that. If whizzer is being saved because of "historical" importance, SW has some history of its own. The ride is a legend, in a sense, despite how crappy it is now.
2)It is arguably the park's most powerful visual image. It's a very impressive introduction to the park. There's nothing quite like taking a right into Six Flags Parkway and having those glorious loops and drops be the first image you see. Used to give me goosebumps. By comparison, it wouldn't make a difference visually if Demon, Whizzer, or IW had hit bit the dust.
3)A decent # of people, in my opinion, prefer it to whizzer and demon two others that I would've preferred to see go.

Well, there's a bit more to it than just this, but part of it may have something to do with the fact that after it's put up here, in Chicago, and in New Jersey, it won't be a unique experience.
I also think that a coaster that intertwines a bit with Shock Wave and wraps behing Theatre Royale is do-able. That's essentially where they put top gun at PGA. However, as this ride wll almost certainly be a clone of an already existing ride, I see only two places for it: Whizzer's plot of land (big, with hills that can easily be dealt with), or Shock Wave's space (big and flat). If it's an original, the sky's the limit as to where it could go. But if it's the almost certain clone, Shock Wave's space it is.
It's sad, but better than having them take out Whizzer. And I do think this has more to do with the accident on Shock Wave than the outcry over The Whizzer.
Well it is official that the Shockwave is on it's way out....but what I did not know is that the Whizzer was a wooden coaster!

Thanks for the link, beast7360. Now all the folks here who kept doubting it despite all the hints that were there may finally comprehend this?
It seems to be the case with many articles written about theme parks, there is always at least one crazy mistake. I was almost to the bottom of that article and was so happy that there were none of these crazy mistakes. Then I get to this:
"...In comparison, the Whizzer, a wooden coaster where riders sit single-file, one behind the other, tops out at around 40 miles per hour without loops, making it fairly family-friendly..."
I don't even know what to say about that...
