SFGAM 2003 Construction Photo's

Just for a brief update - when I went past the park this evening I could see that the support dangling in the wind is actually up - I couldn't tell if anything else was up since it was just after dusk.

did sfgrav tear up parking lot to add their superman coaster? if they did i wonder why sfgam didnt do the same? even though i didnt really like shockwave, i would have rather seen the coaster stay to rack up a higher coaster count.

What are you talking about Great Adventure only has station supports like spacecase8310 said not supports for the actual ride.Great Adventure did'nt have to deconstruct a ride like Great America did and we're ahead.

You have to take into account the fact that there has been progress since that picture was taken, in fact, GADv's Superman already has some track up. If I'm not mistaken, there should be another update this Saturday.

You bet!

I have a dirt theory. Notice in this picture ( click here ) how the support footers are in metal cylinders? The metal cylinders set the ride about +/- 2 feet higher than the ground. I think they will use all of the dirt and just fill over the parking lot without tearing it out. The metal serves as a moisture barrier to the dirt. So in the end, there will be nice grass with out the metal cylinders showing at all. A cheap way to disguise a parking lot coaster.

EDIT: Instead of the cylinders being a moisture barrier, I rather meant they are being used to set the ride up higher. If the ride were to set at the current ground level they would have to tear the parking lot up, but this way they can just cover it.

I don't buy your theory. When since is galvanized zinc used as a "moisture barrier" for concrete.

They have those cylanders on V2 also. So it might just be normal for the park, or they could use water by the ride.
It looks more like a cosmetic thing to me, but maybe they will paint them. V2 has them and it goes into water. Maybe they will dig a ditch and make a moat?

Wood Rules!

Don't count on it. It would be a huge surprise if they did though.
BMCoaster, did you just drive up to that light, park, get out, and take the pics or did you have to park elsewhere and walk to the gates? just curious since I might take a trip up there sometime soon.
