If they'd just get up off their arses and give GD&T a call, the theming of the rides would be so different you wouldn't think of any of them as *clones*....for a very small price difference, you can have a different *experience*, even if it is the same layout as another coaster somewhere else. Individuality....plus, when the theming gets "outdated", you simply change it up...;)

Call for our low LOW rates...:)

I want to follow up on this, how do you feel the "clone-basher-bashers" are more closed minded. I'm interested in hearing the basis of this theory.

I think there's a perfectly valid point behind being disappointed by a clone, and when folks bash you for trying to present that point without ever taking the time to think about it, they're being closed minded.

I really don't see how anyone could disagree that:
a) A clone is a good move for the park

b) Enthusiasts(asses?) are, with good reason, disappointed by it not being custom for a relatively (compared to the clone price) small amount of $ more.

And based on that, I think that when you say "Man, I'm disappointed by the clone." and people respond, "Stop complaining, baby." (NOT "Six Flags sux0rz l4m3|2z." at which point feel free to rip the poster apart) they're shooting you down without listening or thinking.

Well, while I have to agree that WE would obviously prefer a custom design, I also don't think we're talking an *insignificant* difference in price. Sure, I'd like every coaster to be a custom layout (save for the good CI-clones, LOL), but re-engineering, etc. is pretty costly. And there really is NO appreciable gain on the part of the park by doing so...now, THEMING can be a totally different story, as it requires no change in layout or track design, and still gives a new experience....
The two coasters are on opposite coasts and they're mirrored, so I don't mind in the slightest. I'm actually more excited about getting to ride Scream! sometime than about 90% of the other coasters opening this year. I like the location, the color scheme, the name, the layout, etc. If something like this was coming to PKI, I would be ecstatic. Maybe it does have something to do with appreciation and being spoiled, but I'm not sure.

I remember someone talking about every coaster at MM now and the ones coming will be almost worthless because of X. I don't think that's the case whatsoever and I'm a fan of the "fun rides" over the "thrill rides" anyways. Every ride down to Flashback will always have its own fans and you also have tons of things to do while the lines are long at X.

Aren't most people glad this isn't a clone of BDK? In addition, MM has a great original layout with B&M's Riddler (plus X, Viper, and Revolution), so I think this is one of their best possible decisions (nice capacity, eye-catching, first floorless in southwest, etc.). There are dozens of parks that buy clones as well (with all the SLCs, Boomerangs, Roller Skaters, Wild Mice, and so on), so it's not just Six Flags by any means. They could have easily added a kiddie coaster such as the Vekoma invert instead of Scream!

Bill, I only wish they gave theming a chance. Even if it's just on the scale of Goliath or Riddler, that would be a real winner in my book. Eye candy!

Now, a new wooden coaster on the other hand... :)

I keep trying Danny, SOMEDAY some park will give me a shot...and then...:). My first *flirtation* with the idea was at WA riding the Hafema rapids ride and thinking what a BLAST it would be to make the ride really *feel* like Australia (it's called Tasmanian River Rapids, and it's in the Outback section of the park).

Alpie may have been the ride that *flicked the switch*, but since then it seems like EVERY coaster and water ride I go on I'm finding simple yet effective ways to *max-out* the ride...when you've got a $10M ride, what's 100K to make it "special". Seems like a steal in comparison to the million(s) it would cost to go with a new design....

...and the older the population gets, the more parks will *eventually* come around to my way of thinking...I'm patient...;)

Looks like a clone so far, and I cant wait for it to open!

No official layout has been released. But if you were to take a mirror image of this picture you would have it:

I don't consider it a case of being closed-minded. I consider it a feeling of 'Oh Lord, here it comes,' whenever it's announced that <New Coaster #47> is going to be a clone of something else, referring to all the clone-haters that will inevitably start complaining. And speaking for myself (and I'm damn near certain that I'm alone in this), I really can't understand complaining about any coaster...I honestly haven't ridden a coaster I didn't like. Sure, there are some (ok, 2 or 3) that I've found somewhat uneventful, but never unenjoyable, to the point where I feel the need to bash it and/or wish that it was torn down and scrapped. And like some people mentioned earlier, I'd be just as happy riding Medusa on a trip to Cali as I am over here on the east coast. I guess I just don't stress about silly things like a coaster being cloned at a park accross the country...even if said coaster is an SLC, Boomerang, or Heaven forbid (for all you wusses ;) ) Viper at SFGAdv.

I guess what I'm saying is, clone-bashing gets old. And before you say that the clone basher-bashers get old, too, remember that we wouldn't be bashing clone-bashers if the clone-bashers weren't bashing clones in the first place. :)

Isn't "bashing" a bit of a strong word in this case? I don't see anywhere in this thread that anything or anyone has been bashed. It's a pretty good dicussion in my opinion, one in which obviously people will disagree.

As I have said before, some people are greedy. They could care less about the business side of running a large chain of parks, as long as those parks are giving them what *they* want. A park could spend $30 million on an original design one year, then decide to save money bt adding a clone the next. And what are people going to complain about? The clone of course, completely ignoring what the park did the year before. It's "what have you done for me lately", without caring about the larger picture.

I'll never forget a few years ago when PKI added and struggled with SOB. There were *actually* some idiots complaining the very next year when PKI didn't come right back with another $25 million dollar 'giga' coaster. Wow, unbelievable.

I was just using the word 'bashing' for lack of a better description. I'm aware no real 'bashing' has occurred here...

....and that's "The Big Picture", and DWeaver isn't even A Whitney Brown...of course, there is always Dr Doom's "The Big Picture", where we learn why exactly we should do OUR part for the good of Latveria...

Seriously, the clones are good FINANCIALLY for the parks, and that's why they're here to stay.....and they ARE...

I don't know if we're all just agreeing or if you're missing my point and I don't know how to say it any other way.

When I say clone bashing (again, for lack of a better word)I don't mean "Man, I wish I'd get nothing instead of a clone." I mean "I wish the park had spent the extra few mill. and gotten a custom instead." I also don't mean "SFMM is so stupid. A custom would be such a better choice."

Nobody says, "I wish I had nothing instead of a clone of a great ride."

Similarly, when people say, "I wish TTD had more" that's a valid point. No one is saying "I wish I had nothing instead of TTD" and no one is saying "CP is stupid because it didn't put more on the ride." They just wish it had more. Just like I wish there was a 10,000' Intamin strata in my back yard.

In this thread specifically, it seemed like the basher-bashers came out before the bashers even did.
