Ugh... who freakin' cares. I'd be perfectly happy to have one in my neighbourhood.

I'm just baffled by the clone bashers. Sure, it's exactly the same layout as some coaster on the other side of the country. Only a few people are going to notice and care, though.

Is it what I was hoping for? No. That doesn't mean I'm going to bash it, though. In fact, I look forward to riding it.

Jeff, could your neighbourhood handle the traffic that would draw?

The religious right deems cloning as immoral so it muuussstt be wrong. ;)

By a show of hands (okay just pretend), how many Californians have been to New Jersey? I would imagine not a whole lot and vice versa. It's just too damn expensive, and that's before you factor in the cost of living in both states. Enjoy your new Beemer and the zero-g roll from hell:)

If you have a problem with clones, the solution is real simple—Stop traveling.
It technically isn't a clone. If it were, it would not have an opening drop to the right (Medusa-left) ;)

Please. Just like B:TR StL isn't a clone of the rest of the B:TR's. Riiiiight.

It's an improved Medusa.

A clone is a simple remake of an existing ride, however, a mirrorclone is a new design...which needs to be calculated just like a new coaster. It's cheaper because there's a lay-out already there, and the statistics can be used to redesign the ride.Scream will be, technically, not a clone. However, the track lay-out will be very similar to Medusa (almost clone), but the supports are different.

And the next time you guys don't like a clone, tell Six Flags to send it to one of their European parks. ;)
We'd be happy to ride it.

But Jeff, don't you already have one in your neighbourhood? I mean BKF is *kinda* like Medusa, no? :)

(How far are you from SFWoA anyway?)

If cp would put up a Dragon Con clone I wouldn't have to go to anyother park, cp would have everything I need in roller coasters at one park, and I live near SFDL which is rid with clones by vercoma, except for SMROS, which is getting boreing
i'm with belgian on this one..... does it seem to anyone else like the drop on scream! looks alot more banked? it looks more BKFish than Medusaish.....

also notice here that the area where we'd assume the corkscrews to be going (in the photo directly behind the lift) is not nearly as large as the one for medusa's corkscrews (visible here)... the whole coaster looks like it might be a bit more scrunched-up.

i'm wondering if it's a mirror... but with a few little changes..

Oh no! A clone!? Ahhh!! Sorry I couldn't resist ;) Seriously though, would you rather get a clone of an awesome ride or nothing? I don't know about you but I would take any coaster over nothing.

JD: the drop looks pretty much identical to that of Medusa. Look at the place where Scream crosses under the brake run and you'll find that it's the same place the Medusa does the same.

Don't like B&M and Intamin clones? Send them up to Oregon or Washington state. We won't complain. I wouldn't have to travel so far to ride them.

Lets' save the Vancouver PNE Coaster before its'too late!

Sure I'd rather get to ride something completely different when I travel to other parks. However, I also realize that clones make economic sense, and if they are clones of proven great rides they ensure that the park gets a great new ride. It's something that we just have to live with.

And, I just love that big red and blue clone that we have at SFA.

If every park had a (working) Deja Vu, a B:TR and a (well maintained) CI-Clone, I *bet* you'd see far less negative Trip Reports. ;)

Some rides rock, some suck. Those that rock (B:TR) should be cloned. Those that suck (SFGAdv's Viper) should not. It's that simple.

I personally have no problem with clones, but I think that some of the bashing can be attributed to basic human nature. While we all like to be part of a group (clubs, fraternities, coaster sites, etc...), each one of us has a basic, intrinsic drive for individuality. For example, there are a ton of car clubs where owners of the same kind of car gather to share camraderie, but these same people like to do all sorts of modifications to make their car unique.

In the case of coasters, our common love of the rides draws us to come together in places like this, discussing and sharing our experiences and opinions. However, since the coasters we love are owned by companies instead of individuals, we don't see the personalization that we like to have in our everyday lives.

Another parallel that I see about clone-bashing is the old "underground vs. mainstream" argument about musical groups. I know several people that stop listening to a certain artist, just because they become popular. Some folks like to have their own little "secret", and the more people that know about it, the less desirable it becomes.

In all, I like the more individualistic designs better, but hey, I'll take a B&M clone over nothing any day of the week!

BTW, one last thought.....remember that if you're "one-in-a million", that means that there are 5000 other people on Earth, just like you.

I don't think that's really fair EV. At least for me, the reason I'm not a big fan of clones is because, in many cases, I've already ridden it and in this case in particular, many times. I don't think that Medusa E. is "my little secret" and I'm glad that others enjoy the ride as much as I do. But next time I go to SFMM, instead of having something new to ride (like a custom floorless), I'll have something old to ride.

Is whether it's the right more for the park even up for discussion? I think it's pretty obvious that it is. On the other hand, that doesn't make me any less disappointed that it's not custom.

A lot of people who I have talked to that make somewhat regular visits to Great Adventure prefer Medusa over Nitro. I'm sure Six Flags Magic Mountain made a good decision in putting a "clone" in, because it's such a good ride. Just enjoy the ride for what it is, and don't judge it solely on the fact that there's another coaster very similar to it 2000 miles away.
Hmm, I don't understand, why a coaster, which is only being mirrored has to be completely new calculated (like Belgian mentioned). Can anyone tell me?
