Say Goodbye? Laser at DP

I went to Holiday World the first time to meet people. It had nothing to do with the rides. But if hundreds of coaster nerds would go to the middle of nowhere to ride, I felt it was a safe bet that they were quality rides.

No such draw exists for Conneaut Lake.

And thats my opinion of Dorney. Steel Force and Lazer are worth a stop, Really the rest of the park does not thrill me.

Chuck, who's had tons of fun at parks that had no real draw power and like you said, It's friends. not the rides.

So we can agree on something.

Where is the Hydra love?
I like Thunderhawk. There is good air in the front seat before the trims. Yes, the trimmed bunnies are sad, but it is still a fun ride. :)

This is so not complicated...

So you don't consider a fun wooden coaster, a couple of unusual and rare rides, lots of trees, a lakeview, short lines, and cheap prices a draw?
I would if I thought any of those things were at Conneaut Lake. Clearly if others felt that way it would be open today. But it isn't.

Can you understand that a couple of dime-a-dozen B&Ms, a typical hyper coaster, and a wooden coaster not kept in prime condition might not be a draw for everybody?
Sure it's not for everybody. But it appears to be for a majority, because Dorney is, as best I can tell, still open.

But if hundreds of coaster nerds would go to meth lab central to ride, I felt is was a safe bet that they were quality rides.
I guess they're just not the nerds I wanted to meet there.

Can't you see the arrogance in your comment? How can you claim what is or isn't a draw for some people. Chuck doesn't find much to draw him to Dorney, you don't find much to draw you to Conneaut. Why do you have such a problem with Chuck's opinions?
First off, I don't know Chuck. I'd disagree with my own mother if I disagreed with her. Chuck isn't that special. Some of you still think this stuff is personal. It's not.

Second, how is my comment arrogant? If something is a draw for people, it thrives. If it's not a draw, it dies. Some of you guys are so focused on what Jeff Putz thinks that you can't entertain the possibility that what I think is based on the very factual state of things. Conneaut is not open. It's a reasonable conclusion that it was not a draw or sustainable business. Dorney is, and is.

And meeting people is not hard in Ohio. But if people you don't see frequently from various points across the country are going to be in Santa Claus, or Sandusky, or Orlando, then it makes sense to go to that place to meet them, don't you think?

Hydra sucks. Not in a Laser way, but you know a Talon way. I don't plan on riding Laser if I go back, but I don't prefer Talon either, but it is kind of fun.

And Blasphemy, if the only reason to go to Dorney was Laser. I mean, I explained Hydra, but most rides there are what makes Dorney, Dorney. Not coasters. When I went to Dorney the first time as a kid, it had Laser, Little Laser, Thunderhawk, and Hercules. What part of that says, "Coaster heaven!"? If you went to Dorney for coasters, you'd be done in 2 hours. But I can't remember the last time, I we to Dorney for less than 4 hours, except when, I wanted to ride a Coaster before dinner,(Which I rode, of all coasters, Hydra).

But if anything, Dorney should bring back a woodie, in a few years. When Herc. left, my favorite ride was no more. So, Dorney should reincarnate Hercules, or at least build him a son.

Parks nothing special. It isn't really a destination for anyone. We had a blast. I've had a blast at Conneaut as well and there are only two operable tumble bugs around.

I think it's arrogant that you go by what others say and don't draw your own opinion. That being said, You have a right to that view.

Chuck, who also had fun at Fun Spot, Quassy, Lakemont, Little Amerricka, Adventurland Iowa, Wild Adventures, Camden, Lesourdsville Lake, Waldameer, Martins Fantasy Island, Seabreeze and other parks there isn't necessarally A DRAW FOR. If A parks fun or allows us to have fun. I have reason to return! Laser would be a loss in the reasons to return for me. JMO

Change 'people' to 'enthusiasts' and suddenly the sentence takes on a whole new context.

(because I suspect the people you were referring to were indeed, coaster enthusiasts)

Whey do you insist on throwing the enthusiast name around like it's some kind of Cheap whore?

I met Gloria from California and some other friends at Strickers this last sunday and had a great time. Most of our talk had nothing to do with parks or coasters.

I was a enthusiast. now im a park goer among other hobbies.

So now to the Paul Rueben love thread :)
Hey, we all got feelings!

Because there's a difference between the average park-goer traveling to or visiting Stricker's and a bunch of people interested in parks/coasters meeting each other at a amusement park that's open twice a year.

The former makes your point, but the latter doesn't say anything except that coaster enthusiasts will travel to small out of the way places to hang with each other.

Big difference.

Following Jeff's line of thought - there's a reason Stricker's is only open twice a year.

Can we please get back to the Laser discussion no one wants to hear all the rambling.
You bet!
I love the Laser. Was at Dorney for the first and only time last summer, did most everything twice, but spent most of my time on Laser. Anton goodness. Any park with an Anton (SFGAm, SFOG, SFKK) for me, it's always the 'star' of the park.

B&M can do all this crazy stuff, but its pretty much all the same, boring and sometimes even rough (shoulder bars). It's like Arrow for the new gen. I know i know....

This ride has operated in 1981 which is the date for this ride. It's in Japan though.

The thing I don't get with this is the fact that it says, "Sound System". Does Laser have a sound system. I know it has signs, and a booth, but why would it have a sound system?? It just doesn't make sense. That seems like a ride that's at a traveling fair in the US.

A Double Coaster could be something like Shockwave at SFOT, or Mindbender at SFOG. They have two loops. Techincally, Mindbender goes upside three times, but I don't know. I don't think it's either one of them because they say carnival, but those have two loops.

There was a Shrawtkopf at the fair in Florida or some other south place in January or February, but it had 5 loops. I forgot what fair it was. It was a place that is hot in the winter like Florida, Georgia, or maybe even California. *** Edited 8/15/2007 11:49:25 PM UTC by Spinout***

So now you're telling me how I arrive at my own opinion? Who's arrogant again?

Look, I go to parks that offer a combination of things I'm interested in, not the least of which is "popular" coasters, which to me means the Ravens, Millennium Forces and Dueling Dragons of the world. Bonus points for "free" soda, outstanding shows, a night life, etc. It just so happens that these are what the public at large seems to like as well. I'm not asking you to agree with that, but you can't ignore the business case for the things that I like.

Having a sustainable business is not a moral issue or some conspiracy to bring down these little places you love that are either closed or open twice a year. It's not about big versus small or independent versus corporate. Even in the small and indie world, some places thrive while others can't make it (Knoebels and Waldameer, for example, versus Conneaut).

Just be careful not to take the p*ssing match too close to DP's wave pool. Sorry, pools.

Or HW's pool. Sorry. That should be plural, too.

Anyone noting a trend with these 'sustainable' parks or is it just me?

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

Yeah, Because the 15-30 grand rental of the place per day, is more than they would make being open to the public every day by a long shot. they also have some weeknight picnics and outings as well :)

Yes, IN both cases the parks biggest draws are their water parks and not their rides.

Then why are you making it so complicated? This is about the belittling of one person's opinion because it doesn't match your opinion. Chuck finds Conneaut more of a draw than Dorney. That's it. Why is it not ok for Chuck to dislike Dorney but perfectly fine for you to dislike Conneaut?

Britney Spears has a larger following than the local band I saw on Saturday night. Is that an indication of which one has better quality music?

Am I one of the only ones who like waterparks as well as dry rides? I guess I shoudn't be surprised that this whole argument has come down to what exists in the dry ride side of the park as many enthusiasts don't do waterparks or flatrides.

Wild Water Kingdom is really well done, and it a shame that the last time I was there in 05' for the Coasterbuzz event, it was too early in the season to check out the new offerings since my 01' visit. I love that you can go back and forth between WWK and White Water Landing/Thunder Canyon so you don't have to walk around in wet clothing all day long.

Even though I dont think it is leaving the park, This goes out to people who cant ride it, if it is it's last year.
