Say Goodbye? Laser at DP

Jeff already said what I was going to say on the comment that there are no reasons to go to dorney, unless you are an extremist about how cedar fair completely destroyed the park, which I disagree with, sure they lost alot of classic attractions, but... parks change, its a profitable park, and I think they make good decisions on what to add next, they're in it to make the GP happy, and if what they are doing is making then happy thats all they should be concerned with. I love the Laser, and will miss it, its one hell of a little ride (IF it does ever leave) but I look forward to seeing where it heads or what goes in its place.

If that leaves, I'll have absolutely no reason to visit Dorney.
Yes, because Talon, Hydra, Thunderhawk, Steel Force and the mouse are just terrible coasters.

YES, They are!, Two boring and meaningless coasters and a overbraked Morgan.

The mouse is the best of the bunch and Thunderhawk is neutered beyond belief.

Chuck, who'd rather visit Conneaut Lake for it's one DECENT coaster and tons of atmosphere. Laser is the only thing that wows me at Dorney. Steel Force was nice back in 97 but in 2003 it was slow and stopped on the midcourse with no air on the remaining drops.

I am sure it will get a great new home if it IS leaving. :)

Yup, Thats me, I had a awesome time there in 97 when the park had a wooded hillside, A bunch of flats, One great wooden coaster (Thunderhawk unbraked) Lazer and Steel Force.

Talon was ok, it's missing something bad, Maybe the roar. I don't know but when I visited again in 2003 it was a hot concrete wasteland with a few decent coasters.

I wouldn't say that none of Dorney's coasters are good, but Laser will be an unfortunate loss. It's one of those simple yet fun rides and it fits in well with the rest of the park.
Last time I went to Dorney, the mid course breaks on Steel Force were barely on if at all, it was one of the best rides I have ever had on it, I never felt it was over-breaked though.

BTW I never said I loved everything they changed about the park either, so don't take what I said personally, I said they do whatever is profitable, and if its successful, I'm happy for them.

No, Im not and if they are doing fine. Thats fine by me. But Knoebels and Hershey IMHO just make a stop at Dorney, Not worthwhile to me

Chuck

And to think they could've just moved it to GL instead of trying to sell it.

Remind me not to hang out with Chuck at amusement parks.

You'd have to visit one of the three he actually likes first :)

(sorry, couldn't resist)

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

No kidding Jeff.

I stopped by dorney yesterday on my way back to detroit from NYC.

I had a great time. Talon was runnig well, the mouse was killer. Steel Force had tons of airtime on ever hill.

Hydra was a bit rough, and thunderhawk was very very rough.

Laser was okay. Unique for sure, but I can see why CF would choose to get rid of it.

Overall the park warrants a return trip, not sure what there is to complain about, except to complain.

Except for the massive amounts of line jumping. That may be worth complaining about. I have never seen line jumping so bad. I will vent about that somewhere else though.

Laser can go, I would still go back.

Guess who's back? Back Again? James K's back. Tell a friend.

I have been to Dorney four times and have only rode Laser once. There are some great Schwarzkopf coasters, but this one just didn't seem special to me.

Oh, SO the person who has NO REASON TO VISIT Conneaut has a problem with the person who has no reason to visit Dorney.

Ok, Fine. I guess you though HW wasn't worth a stop till they built Voyage either.

Not picking a fight. Just stating the obvious.

Chuck, who don't hate Dorney it's just the concrete slab with a bunch of middle of the road rides throw in it anymore compared to the beautiful tree lined park with atmosphere and charm and a few great rides like a Paratrooper on a hillside that gave you about a hundred feet POV that the park used to be.

P.S. If they can do well in their market. Im happy for them. I just find many parks that don't have nearly as much to have FAR BETTER QUALITY and OVERALL SELECTION.

No way. Why? corporate, b&m, boring... No reason for me to go back to Dorney....

That's pretty much my mindset...and I still believe it. I made my first trip to HW last season and if it wasn't for the single greatest coaster in existence, I'd have been a bit underwhelmed.

I went to Holiday World the first time to meet people. It had nothing to do with the rides. But if hundreds of coaster nerds would go to the middle of nowhere to ride, I felt it was a safe bet that they were quality rides.

No such draw exists for Conneaut Lake.

I kinda hafta sorta want to side with Chuck on this one. Dorney is just one of those parks I have little to no interest in going back to. All the rides are ok enough but there's nothing that compels me to go back, especially with the other parks in the area.

That being said I'm not less likely to go back to Dorney with the removal of Laser but then again I wasn't very likely to go back to begin with. If I did go back I'd probably spend most of my time in the waterpark. Couldn't believe how huge that was when we walked through, it looked pretty awesome.

Somewhat the same thing happened to me at Carowinds. It was a nice enough park but there was just nothing especially compelling or interesting. I should have just spent the extra day at Dollywood.

Still though even with my general "meh"-ness for Dorney, Laser isn't really a big deal to me, either. *** Edited 8/15/2007 8:37:09 PM UTC by matt.***

Jeff said:No such draw exists for Conneaut Lake.

So you don't consider a fun wooden coaster, a couple of unusual and rare rides, lots of trees, a lakeview, short lines, and cheap prices a draw?

Can you understand that a couple of dime-a-dozen B&Ms, a typical hyper coaster, and a wooden coaster not kept in prime condition might not be a draw for everybody?

I went to Conneaut for the first time to meet people. It had nothing to do with the rides. But if hundreds of coaster nerds would go to meth lab central to ride, I felt is was a safe bet that they were quality rides.

Can't you see the arrogance in your comment? How can you claim what is or isn't a draw for some people. Chuck doesn't find much to draw him to Dorney, you don't find much to draw you to Conneaut. Why do you have such a problem with Chuck's opinions?

^^^ Why would you go the middle of nowhere to meet people? I didn't realize meeting people in Ohio was so difficult.

Holiday World seems to attract a lot more than just coaster nerds, so I wager that also says a lot about the quality of their rides. As for Conneaut, a lot of enthusiasts go there, so wouldn't that mean Conneaut has some quality rides as well (and thus making it easier to understand why people feel the way they do)?

Besides, what the hell does any of this have to do with Dorney's Laser going bye-bye?

^ So you go to an amusement park for the sake of meeting people too? Must be an Ohio thing ;)
