Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 begins to appear in stores

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, the sequel to one of the biggest selling PC games ever, has started to appear on store shelves in the Greater Cleveland area a week before its scheduled release. Target stores appear to have a few copies, and EB stores say they expect it this week.

You can order Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 from Amazon.

Thanks Adam. They must have had them in late. I called at 10:00 AM and they didn't have them yet. Have to make a stop on the way home from work!!!!
Spryboy, yes that's what the blocks are supposed to do but I can't see why the train would stop on the block when the train before it is entering the station/final brake. The block could at least slow the train down enough instead of bringing it to a dead stop.

The age thing happened to me as well at the register. How very odd that is!

If anybody out there preordered the game from EBgames.com, I just noticed that my order status went to "open," but without the ability to change or cancel order. That usually means the product is shipping! Just yesterday I could still change my order online. Yippy!!

The age thing happened to me as well. It said I had to be 99 years old to buy the game. The poor lady at the counter had no clue what to do until a supervisor(who obviously had no clue the game was not official yet)came by and pressed one button!

How dumb is this... The sales clerk informed a group of us that the game could not be sold until next Tuesday. He then proceeded to stack a bunch on the counter and walk away!

What do you think I and a few others did?

Outkast,

That's hilarious. The people at my Target were equally dumb. Here's what happened:

I found the game sitting on the shelf, with a price tag and all. Just to make sure that I would be able to buy it, I went up to one of the scanners in the store and it came up as "Rollercoaster Tycoon $29.99."

I then took the game up front and when the girl rang it up, she asked for my I.D.! I started laughing but handed it over to her, thinking it was because I was using a ATM card (which I had never been carded for). She looked at the register and it said: "Enter Birthdate/Must be 99 years old." So she entered my actual birthdate in and the register told her that I wasn't old enough to buy it. Now I'm freaking out thinking I'm gonna be one of the horror stories that had it in hand but couldn't buy it.

So the girl calls her manager over and they look at the game and the register, then my I.D. They both turn to me, straight face and all, and say "you can't buy this, you're not old enough." I was cracking up. I came back with, "you're damn right I'm not old enough, do I look 99 years old?" They asked me to please be calm and stated that I needed to be 21 to buy the game. I told them that I was 24 years old (it states it right on my driver's license - they couldn't count naturally) and that the game was rated "E" for everyone. They finally wised up and just did the button trick and I was on my way.

Ah, what a mess. But it was all worth it...until I tried to install on Windows 2000...

Gotta love the curves and Bunny hops you can make with it. You can make a quasi rocket coaster using the LIM coaster. Only 100' high though. You can have all kinds of fun with the Intamin Box Track. Too bad the Impulse doesn't have any turns. Maybe an update later will allow for this or a rocket launch. New curves work on most track types. Kind of nice to have a big sweeping downward spiral.
Yeah, the 99 years old thing was the problem that I was talking about also. Entering a fake birthdate of over 99 years old still didn't work. All that was needed was to push enter. The youngest employee in the vacinity figured it out to the astonishment of a manager. All that after stading around for about 15 minutes.

Xfactor,

I just went to Big K on W65th and they had it! Thanks so much! I can't wait to play it. I got one of the two on the shelf left! Wohoo!

RCT 2 has been discovered (and purchased) at our Big K in Jefferson City, Missouri...I think that sleep is days away :)

The game was in stock tonight at my local Wal-Mart and was in my hands for a short while. I took the game up to the check out and when the lady scanned it the register more or less said that I couldn't buy the game. She was very nice adn ran back and got another copy. The same thing happened with this game. Next she called Customer Service and then she told me that she could not sell me the game because it was being recalled. Though I didn't really believe her I just told her thank you and left. Oh well, Teusday isn't to far away.
Yay! I am heading out tonight to get my copy at a near by Target who has 'quite a few left in stock'. I will go to Kinkos then Target and come home and play...I haven't bothered to install RCT on my machine because RCT2 was coming and now I won't be RCT-less.

Corbin, I ran into the same problem you did, with Wal-Mart next to Great Northern mall, near Cleveland, Oh. It kind of ticked me off abit, but oh well, GameSpot in Great Northern mall said they should have it out either Friday, or Sat., guess I'll run up there both days, hopeing to score!

I don't have a signature yet!

I just stopped at the Target in Wyomissng, PA since I was in the area. Walked back to the software department and saw a sign that said RCT2 would be available October 15. I figured that the early release finally caught up to them, but walking down the aisle, sure enough, there were two copies on the shelf!

So Many questions...

Do the log flumes now have a continuous stream of cars? What's the arrow 4-d coaster like? Is it definite that you can't update old rct1 games? Anyone who's got the game wanna put loads of screenshots up???

Oh yeah, here in England Topspins have been called topspins for ages ;)

Go to the www.sixflagsnews.com to see some screen shots.

And yes, you can have tons of cars on the log flume. Jeff said he had something like 30 boats on one of his...

I haven't messed with the flume yet, but my Shoot the Chute had 15 boats running.

Waiting for the CP announcement to be made so that about 1000+ posts will be made complaining about it.

I can't wait to get rct2 maybe tommorow or if not tommorow then for sure tuseday
To my surprise, Best Buy here in Metro Detroit (@ 13 & Gratiot) had RCT2 in stock and on the shelf today. I counted 15 copies on the shelf, and I bet they'll all be gone by later tonight...

I didn't have the money, plus I reserved a copy at Media Play :(

BTW: I was just there, they are either out or have taken it off the shelves, because no help.
