Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 begins to appear in stores

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, the sequel to one of the biggest selling PC games ever, has started to appear on store shelves in the Greater Cleveland area a week before its scheduled release. Target stores appear to have a few copies, and EB stores say they expect it this week.

You can order Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 from Amazon.

Well, Fort Wayne Indiana people, you're in luck! Although the Target stores don't appear to have the game, Best Buy just got them in, and the guy on the phone said that they can be picked up any time.

That's funny Matt, it sounds like the coasters will be a little more challenging to build technically as well as exciting the peeps at the same time!

For anyone in the Pittsburgh area, head out to the K-Mart near Monroeville Mall. They had 8 or so copies as of 7pm this evening.

Both Target stores I checked (Waterfront and Robinson Town Center) appeared to be sold out, as there is a spot on the shelf but no copies. So off to Monroeville!

Random notes:

Argh...I can't believe the Intamin inverted track is so limited. Unless someone knows otherwise, the box track doesn't allow for left/right turns, so no Volcano:TBC.

On the bright side, there are queue line televisions! Couldn't believe that one.

I also thought about doing Xcelerator, to no avail either. Can't launch the Intamin hyper from station, and the track doesn't go straight up. You CAN somewhat reproduce it with B&M track (since it does twist straight upward), but still no station or track launchers that I can see.

On the flat ride front, spinning teacups and flying carpet are the only 'new' one's I've seen. The gravitron has been renamed topspin.

The stacking scenery is a trip, and really accentuates the game quite nicely.

In general, I think that trainers will still be made for this, since it doesn't allow the freedom that most of us still desire for designs, but it has put in a lot of options the trainers used to take care of for the first one.

People in the Cincinnati area, I hear there are copies at the Target in Springdale (so call ahead!) and there were several left at the Target on Fields Ertle. Good luck! :)

I'm having a blast!

I went out to the target in Cranberry today to look for RCT2, but unforunately they were either out or had already pulled it. The sticker was there next to RCT, but no boxes were on the shelves. I'm going to check the one in North Fayette Friday, but I assume by then they'll definitely be off the shelf.

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

Northern Virginia Peeps - I just picked the game up from Toys 'R' Us in Tyson's Corner. No luck at Target though...

Hmm... From what i know so far by playing the game:

New Stuff

Transportation: Trams(Orient Express at SFMM)

gentle rides: haunted mansion ride(different from ghost train), Monster Truck Ride, Double Deck Observation Tower

Coasters:Junior, Mini, Spinning Wild Mouse, Spiral(like Whizzer af SFGAm), LIM Launched(Like Mr. Freeze), Giga, Inverted Impulse, Inverted Vertical Shuttle, Soap Box Derby Racers, Flying Turns(La Vibora at SFoT), Mine Ride, Multi-Dimension(X)

Thrill ride: Magic Carpet

Water Ride: Submarine ride

Oh! i almost forgot! B&M Flying coaster!

That's all i remember off the top of my head, but ithink that's all the rides that are new.

RIP Shockwave

One weird thing is the ELEVATOR as a transport ride. Yes an elevator to transport to higher levels.

Where exactly is Winfield? I live in Chicago and have been looking all over for it with no luck.

Have a Disney day!

I picked up a copy of RCT2 at the Big Kmart on W. 65 St. here in Cleveland tonight.

All I can say is - WOW.

There is so much MORE even though the game play is the same .

Some of the cool things that may have not been mentioned are the lift hill sounds are different. The wood coaster has the traditional sound. The B&M coasters have the famous "roar" as well as their lifts sounding just like the real thing. The Arrow loopers have the classic Arrow lift sound. To me, that is the biggest improvement over the original.

Oh, and impulses don't have to be just a two spike deal. You can create longer full circuit rides (if you are lucky enough to figure it out).

The flying carpet and tea cup ride are the only two new flat rides added that I have seen. But there are tons of new shops like the funnel cake stand and sub sandwich shop for example.

And the cable lift on the giga coaster is sweet.

The bad thing, though minimal, is the block brake. If a train has not cleared the next block, the train will stop in mid-ride until it is cleared.

But other than that, I love RCT 2.

Just called my local SoCal Target and they are sold out right now, but will have more shipments throughout this week and next for it. Out of the 3 Targets I called only 1 knew anything about it and will have it this week...they already had some, but they are all gone.

"Has anyone ever smelled a dead body before?"-the art substitute.

I remember something like Costco.com saying their company recieves copies on the 8th, and thats when they release it. Oddly, RCT2 was removed altogether from costco.com, but they may still be selling it, call them and ask. It only costs 25 bucks there, and if you are disatisisfied you can practically hand the bare CD and manual back in without a reciept 2 years later (I did it with a watch), no questions asked.

Target in Mission Valley, CA has a few copies left. I went through the check-out and the register said I had to be 99 years old to buy it. They just entered a fake date, heh-heh. Man was I nervous.

Isn't that the way block-breaks are SUPPOSED to work?

Still no sign of it in Austin (sigh)

It won't install for me on Windows 2000. It states that the wrong disk is in the cd rom drive. Anyone know of a fix for this? Thanks!

Anyone know if it is in stores north of Philadelphia in the Quakertown/Allentown area? I checked the Quakertown Walmart and KMart and they don't have it. The Target in Montgomeryville and Warrington aren't getting it until tuesday. If anyone knows of a store that is selling it in this area please let me know. Thanks.
