Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, the sequel to one of the biggest selling PC games ever, has started to appear on store shelves in the Greater Cleveland area a week before its scheduled release. Target stores appear to have a few copies, and EB stores say they expect it this week.
You can order Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 from Amazon.
Anybody else want to start buying huge shares of Infogrames right about now?
Why?
You have hundreds of people driving long distances and swarming stores, tying up phone lines just because of this game. And it's official release date is a week from now. ;)

I know there are not many folks in the Denver area, however the Target on Arapahoe was selling it. Got my copy and its loading right now.

Thanks for the screen shots kRaX. How about some of the thrill rides. Also how many rides/attractions are there on that list? It says 128 maximum
Target in Charlotte near I 485 didn't have it when I checked at 9:00 pm if anyone's in the area and thinking of checking.

Hello,
I am the entertainment specialist at a Target store and yes, some Targets did release the game early. What has happened is Entertainment and Electronics are going through a transition (more DVDs, more PC Games..) and for whatever reason, RCT2 was on this new set. The game arrived the previous week here. A message was given to all entertainment specialists to remove all copies from the salesfloor.
Typically, Target stores don't get Video Games early like this. They may arrive up to a week after a release date.
I'd guess by now all copies should be off the salesfloor.. all Ent. Specialists work Tuesday because of new releases and should have noticed the message. But hey, you might wanna check your local Target anyway.. heheh...
Oh, can you blame a certain Entertainment Specialist who bought a copy Monday even though he knew it would be recalled from the salesfloor the following day?

Well,
It's not like I have gobs of free time between now and next Tuesday. This means I have one more week before my evenings go right down the tubes for the forseeable future :).
Anyway, from what I am infering from the discussion so far is that it IS possible to create a "Sandbox Mode", however you can't have every possible feature at one time. (128 max?) I'm sure there are certain scenery elements and even some stalls and rides that we woulnd't be too heartbroken to sacrifice. (The ReverseWhoa Belly and UltraTwister spring instantly to mind)
Quick question: Right now I am running a P-II 400 with 96MB RAM, about 2.5GB free HD, with a 4MB video card, should I be alright for RCT II? (Yes, I know that system is borderline obsolete, but I don't have new hardware in my budget till 1Q 2003)

Attention Columbus area shoppers!
I just bought a copy this morning at the Taget on Sawmill and they still have 5 copies left. So if you really want this now, I'd head that way. On the other hand, they had trouble running it through the computer when I was trying to buy it. The clerk had a manager come over and bypass some problem they were having. Hopefully this didn't alert them to the fact that they aren't supposed to be on the shelves yet. Good luck.
And I haven't been home yet to download and check it out, so unfortunately I can't answer any questions.
Dave: This game is a little more resource intensive than the previous version. It requires a lot more disk space and a lot more memory than you currently have would be helpful. A lot of good deals out there... you should look into upgrading.
