When I heard the initial concept for RCT3, I was excited. I hear many people say that the gameplay in RCT3 just isn't as fun because of the 3D enviornment. I disagree, however.
I was never interested in SIM Coaster or any of the other crappers like that. I wanted realism or surrealism of some sort. Everything in the other games just seemed too "polygon-sparing" and that forced the characters to look goofy and the rides to look a step up from an 80's 3D simmulation.
The reason I liked the older RCT better was because of the toy like enviornment. Everything felt solid, like it had mass and weight. I felt like I was looking at a mini-toy set, sort of like models of the rides I like. I think that's what a lot of people felt. But for some reason, they felt that just being "3D" was more important, and they lost the solid "toy" feeling. Sure, the graphics are great, but seriously, just the look of the characters alone gets on my nerves. From what I see, they took away what made them different from every other game. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I do agree indeed! ;) Most of us are dissapointed becuase even though it gives min specs, everyone need just above that, and you still need a decent computer just to play! I do love it, and I love the enviroment, it just hogs every single source of CPU, Memory, and more! And that was sucks! But its still fun , and great graphics, and an improvment in how the guests look from RCT and RCT2.
I completly agree with you on the fact that RCT 1 and 2 looked like they were more "real" like they had life and weight to them. There was some more little stuff in the previous RCTs that I liked but I do like RCT3 as well. It has a lot of cool features that are fun. Its a little more challenging because you have to handle staff more and its enviroment has a lot of potential. But I am a little dissapointed in the lack of scenery stuff, even things like benches and flowers, trees and fences. There arent as many at all. I hope Atari maybe comes out with a free expansion back for download. That would be cool. For now I am completley satisfied though.
I think in a 2D enviornment, it's much easier to make "pixel art" in which everything feels real and has mass. In 3D, you see the flaws, the polygons, textures, and rough edges. It just feels like hyperreality instead of real.
As far as the gameplay goes, I think this was a blow to them. RCT3 feels more like a "simmulation" rather than building a real object.
I think the idea of the peeps being different in this game was a good idea, I just don't think it was implemented well. I think they look a little "corny."

Don't plan on Atari putting out any add-ons for free. They'll amke you're game work, but plan on an expansion pack purchase in your near future if you want more.
Me? I'm dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid.
We had to buy the expansion packs before...so that aspect has nothing to do with Atari, Fastball...
The game is cool until you see the roller coasters, which is sad since the game is all about them. Badly made and nothing like the simple, easy, plain setup in RCT 1 & 2.
Yea, the coasters, they need to have some supports like real coasters do, it would make them better. The coaster trains in my opinion look horrible. Other than that, not bad!
That's what I meant. I thought Atari mad e the other ones. I stand corrected.

Yea the RCT 1 & 2 were definatly better than the RCT3 Generic versions...just so they can't get sued by a particular manufacturing company! What a Crock!
My little cousin bought RCT1, and got RCT3 for Christmas. To this point he isn't complaining about much. As a fan of coasters I'd love to see realistic supports, more elements, coaster types, etc., but some things enthusiasts tear their hair out over don't even cross the minds of most regular gamers. The game wasn't made purely for enthusiasts like No Limits was.

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.
Very true, and I must agree, but since us fans been asking for, for like forever, they finally give us some of it but take away some of the looks from previous versions, and features we miss dearly. No Limits does give accurate a differant meaning, lol!
Agreed, the coaster trains don't look right. The thing that bugs me is this: Build a Bobsled coaster with a 100 lift hill. Run the first drop, full tilt toward a 10 foot second hill and the cars take it w/out leaving the track or going airborne. rct1 and rct2 did this right, and boy, they flew, bigtime.

Try a LIM coaster, and just leave the track straight up, but not high - the coaster will leave the track and explode, just like in rct2, however no peeps die. I've tried propelling them straight into a mountain at 70mph, and they still just get up, shake their head, and walk on.
The really pathetic part? I close the ride, and reopen - and peeps start lining up like the crash never happened! I don't even have to repaint the coaster like in rct2!
"Life's What You Make It, So Let's Make It Rock!"
Try this: Drop your peeps into the water. They'll swim around for a while and just disappear. I checked underwater, (zoomed in)and sure enough, they turned in Bob Ballard clones.
actually, it is sort of funny.

Ah, for the good old days of "Guest 736 has drowned." and "23 guests have died in a crash on Roller Coaster 1"
"Life's What You Make It, So Let's Make It Rock!"
Lol, I havent even played RCT 3 and I am taking your guys side. I think RCT4 should be in RCT2 view again with a button which allows you to go into 3D view "peep cam", which you can walk round and ride, etc. That would be a game worth buying. Plus they should lower the spec rating, it doesnt cost £33, it costs more like £2000 to play it! Idiots!!
^I agree.....at least that way the system requirements wouldn't be so darn high.
Who are we kidding though? of course RCT4(if there ever is one) will be just like 3 with insanely high system requirements that'll make RCT3's look like nothing in a few years time because as we all know PC hardware advances are constantly being made every few months now.
I really do not think there will be a RCT 4. From what I hear from different retail buyers I know, RCT3's sales aren't too hot.
I think the concept of the game can still be a hot item. I just don't think it was implemented well in RCT3.

Well now I can't even run RCT2 anymore(or any other CD-ROM game for that matter) all thanks to an unathourized download somehow corrupting my PC this morning....a download that occurred oddly enough while visiting this very site.
I try to insert my RCT2 disk in the drive & a few seconds later get an error saying "no disk inserted" & a few seconds later the CD-ROM opens up,I've also tried to run Simcity 3000 with the same results so now I'm really screwed until we get the new PC sometime around march/april if we're even lucky enough to afford it by then.
