Went to the arcade today, and my woes continue with Sakura. I STILL can't pass it. I only tried it 3 times, and I did really good the first time I played it. I had like a 130 combo, AND I got a perfect on the "arrow everyone misses," but then the last tempo change raped me. There was about 4 more arrows left when I failed. It's very frustrating going from Maxx Unlimited and MAX300 to Sakura and not being able to pass it.
I also tried Paranoia Survivor and thought, "Wow, this isn't so bad," then the ending from Hell appeared and put me in my place. I'm positive I can do it, I'll just have to practice. I think I'm going to focus on Survivor right now and Sakura can rot for all I care.
One GOOD thing that did happen today was that I got an A on V Oni, which is decent because I consider that song *very* hard.
On Survivor's ending, don't freak out. All it is, is fast crossovers. You can do it. :) I "Put my faith in you"
And an A on V Oni is nothing to sneeze at. Nice. My best is an A also.
The second tempo change just consists of quarter notes, gallops and a couple of three-note 16th runs. Click the link below and study for five minutes and I guarantee you will pass it next time!

Then again this thread is about progress, and the current conversation is about helping someone progress... so it's applicable.
I'm pretty sure my problem is the tempo changes, I'm really not good at sudden tempo changes. The slow section is tricky but I can get through it.
And I'm not completely blowing it, either. My friends play on standard so I get to play through the whole song even if I fail, and I also get to see my scores. I remember the 3 times I played Sakura I missed 20, 19 and 18 steps altogether. So I'm REALLY close to passing. I also got to see someone else do it, and they used solo. I tried it one time to see if it would help me and it didn't one bit. I don't really see how it could make you do much better.
Next time I go to arcade I'm GOING to pass it. I know I said that last time, but I will. Unfortunately I probably won't be able to head out till at least next week. And thanks, for your help, guys. :)
It's funny you mention solo. I use solo everytime (except for the extra stage of course) but i love it because the arrows stay a solid color, so i can tell the difference between say a triple and a step-jump faster than normal. It just helps my PA.
Which is "the arrow everyone misses?" *** Edited 2/20/2004 2:44:21 AM UTC by ApolloAndy***
Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."
Tried Tsugaru the other day after not touching it for a long time. The gallops are fun because it's making you do a sort of two step dance, but after that, it goes into So Deep mode where you have to jump from one pad to another. Almost broke my foot and almost fell flat on my bottom. Tough song. Not passed yet.
Played at home with my friends today. They asked me to play Maxx Unlimited, so I'd said I'd play it, but there was a strong chance I wouldn't pass it. Well, I did.. again. The cool thing was I only missed 36 steps, which I think is pretty good. Again, I only got a D because I had 210 perfects and 208 greats. It's not very easy for me to PA at 330 bpm. Those crazy Japanese people that can AAA 300 and Unlimited must be robots!
I have a harder time hitting the first arrow *after* the "one everyone misses"!
I did get an A on Paranoia Survivor though. =D
and 5 greats on My Summer Love...again >_<
Pretty good (but frustrating) day for me. I full-comboed quite a few more songs, such as Mikeneko Rock, Let's Get Down (first time, extra stage), Candy <3, Burnin' the Floor Momo Mix, Healing Vision, The Centre of the Heart, Do It Right, True Trance Sunrise Mix and Sana Morette Ne Ente - but *still* no new AA's. What do you have to do, sheesh!
Also I passed a new 9-footer: Sync Oni. Only seven more left to try. Also also, passed quite a few extra stages, including Destiny and Breakdown (but I didn't earn the extra stages... I was playing with a guy who gets the extra stage every time with SDG's... I saw him AAA Let's Groove and he said it was his 50th AAA, and then he showed me some of the others on his cell-phone camera).

New accomplishment for me!
AA'd V (oni) w00t!
and i got 4 greats on My Sumemr Love...so close! >_<
I also tried to AA Paranoia Survivor, but...that didn't quite happen =D
Not much for me. Passed Maxx Unlimited for the 3rd time, with a D of course, but my perfects were about 60-70 higher than my greats so I'm improving. Oh, and I also officially think that Unlimited is easier than 300.
I've also mastered Break Down's spins, which I'm proud of. It's so much more fun now without all that double stepping. :)
V Oni is indeed one of the hardest 9-footers. Nice work Kel.
/still can't pass any of the *real* 10-footers. :(
I sometimes spin on Breakdown also, but i haven't mastered it ^^; I think it looks pretty cool when someone's got it down.
Maybe i'll try MaxX Unlimited today. i NEED to get better at it. And LOM...*kicks those jumps*
Also got some cool songs I hadn't played before when I was playing Nonstop. The first one was called (I think) The Last 100 Seconds, it was really fast but it was a lot of fun. The other one was called (I know this one) Twinbee, which was awesome.
