True.....well, 'cept for those two ugly dudes on either side of MY Dawn....;)
I just hope PKI doesn't take away Adventure Express. I LOVE that ride and if they removed it that would mean that they are insulting me personally.
They are only out to upset me. It's ALL about ME you know. The parks should take me seriously since I do nothing but harrass them and send them constant emails about how THEY should run their parks. ;-)

Well Jeff, it just seems that you are of a different mindset on this issue then most of the people here. I think it's a little cold to think only about the bottom line. There are other components involved. There's corporate goodwill and being a good corporate citizen to the residents of the area. I have no doubt that the company gives back in some other capacity. Especially since PKI itself seems like really caring people run it. Which is why I find it more than ironic that the same corporation that seems to actually want people's opinions on new attractions to build, ignores the same people's feelings on this issue. Most businesses like to avoid controversy. I know I sure wouldn't want little 7 year old girls taking up a petition against something I thought was a good idea!
People who only think about the bottom line are crude a-holes. And eventually greed will come back and haunt them, just ask the good people at Enron.
Jeff, when you think business, you think bottom line and thats it? Nothing else? Well if you do, then you are what I explained. Corporations that do such things have no heart, do you? I'm not trying to call you out or anything, but why have you been so heartless about peoples feelings. People really care about this ride and friendships they made from it. Yet, you make a mockery of it. How would you feel if some corporation made Garbage split up?
Seriously though, in the grand scheme of things and relative importance, if I were an executive in Paramount Parks this wouldn't even be a blip on the radar. You guys treat it like they want to kill puppies and steal candy from kids. They're just moving a ride to another park. Over the years I've seen my Schwabinchen and Mill Race disappear from Cedar Point (not to mention the ridiculously good smelling chicken barbecue). Somehow, I think I can deal with that since I got things like Raptor and Millennium Force.
And what kills me about this is that everyone gets up in arms when a park closes, and everyone wants a ride to be "saved" and moved to another park. Here's a case when they are moving the ride, where it will live on. They could have just tore it down and scrapped it. They also could have just not told you it was going at all. Progress is often a destructive force that requires short-term sacrifice for long-term gain.
Yes, the bottom line is the bottom line. If you think otherwise, I should hope that you never run any companies I invest in. It has nothing to do with "feelings." Where were the "feelings" when I got laid-off twice in two years? It's capitalism. Being a "good corporate citizen" is something you do when you're wildly successful in a high-margin business where no one can touch you. In our industry, I'm not sure anyone fits that bill other than Busch, and even then only in a couple of markets. Viacom has a long way to go. Even then, removing one ride from a huge lineup is not like dumping toxic waste or overtaxing a road without contributing to its improvement.
Maybe my perspective is different because I have my own small business, and because I've sat in the boardroom of public companies when important decisions are being made. My point stands that this particular decision will be good for the company in terms of attendance and revenue, and a "pissed off" vocal minority isn't going to change that.

Am I a minority? Probably, In fact the attendance figures prove it
Still, wouldn't they like to have my $$ too?
Thats not over reaction. Thats the facts. It seems parks are doing more to maintain attendance figures rather than to grow them.
Chuck
And both companies are touted as having good business sense. Is this a double-standard?
--Dave Althoff, Jr.
Do you see the absurdity of that statement? Are you suggesting parks don't want every last butt through the turnstile they can get? Are you suggesting that the removal of rides at Cedar Point has led to a decrease in attendance? That the removal of this PKI ride will hurt their numbers?

What exactly are you referring to, Dave?
Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog
Maybe Dave meant years not days?
Oh, wait, he said GOOD business sense....hmmmm, now I *am* perplexed...;)
NOW I got it....Disney and the TeaCups! I win! :)
