PKIs Flyers to Carowinds?

I got my "Hey person we bug every month trying to get you to renew your season pass for 2005 even though you already have 3 months ago" flyer.

This one was different, they announce without announcing that they are going to be getting 2 family rides for next year.

Strangely, the only picture they show is of PKI's Flyers. Now, why would they not show a picture of the NEW version of Larson's flying scooters presently at PGA (not sure if PKDs flyers are the new kinds). We all know that they have to move the flyers at PKI to make way for the Addams Fa...err Italian Job coaster, but are they moving it onto an 18 wheeler headed for Charlotte?

Personally, I'd love to have them, although I'd hate it for my PKI buddies. They'd be left with one ride worth going to PKI alone for... Delerium.

Homey,

It's weird you mention that because in one of the offices at the Larson plant in Texas, there was a zoomed in picture of a flyer in action. What made this so unique is the background of the picture looked very similar to the area where the PKI version operates.

Upon closer examination, the tub in the picture looked computer generated. It just didn't look real but everything around it, including the passengers looked real. The picture isn't used in the Larson catalog so my guess is they decided to scrap it for their own, non rendered looking photos.

It's ludicrous to assume that just because the picture is PKI's flyers, that those are the ones that Carowinds are getting. I mean, I can count endless Paramount & Six Flags brochures where they picture a ride from another one of their parks. Come to think of it, Carowinds has yet to use an actual picture of their own Top Gun-The Jet Coaster in any of their brochures. They continue to use photos from the PGA. They do the same with commercials. It's simply out of convenience and cost. Keep in mind, the GP has ZERO clue what rides are at what parks. Anyway, how can Carowinds put a picture of something new in their park that's not even there yet? Even if it is a new Larson model, they have to get a picture from somewhere. And they usually get one (or similar enough) that is already installed preferably in one of their parks. *** Edited 10/1/2004 12:08:22 AM UTC by swampfoxer*** *** Edited 10/1/2004 12:29:30 AM UTC by swampfoxer***
For the price, I think it's more economical for them just to get a new set of Larsons.

When PGA announced that they were getting the larsons, They showed a picture of PKI's

PKD's is old Bisch Rocco but with modified tubs that have fiberglass wings.

Chuck, who might be spending a lot of time at Fun Spot if there is no flyers at PKI.

Well considering they have to move the PKI version anyway, it makes sense that they would save the cost of a new one and just transplant one they already own to our park.

Eithe rway my daughter loves the version at PKD so we are looking forward to this additon.

My bet is that it will be placed where the mini rapids are now since they haven't operated in years. Or maybe the other new ride will be placed there. Any guesses as to what that might be?

If PKI were to remove the Flying Scooters, why would someone like me want to go to PKI?

Fortunately, I think Paramount realizes this. If the rumors I have heard are true, the new location for the Flying Scooters should be really cool. I just hope it's true!

I like the way *Brain* operates. While it's NOT happening (and it isn't), it shows why parks could be better off in the long run having a few consultants drawn from our ranks. The FLYERS per se, no, PKI knows how important they are and I'm pretty sure I read something *quasi-official* stating that the Flyers WOULD be relocated for the '05 season and that the Tiques were being seriously overhauled for an '06 re-appearance. But IF it were *another* ride, that would be "just good business".

PKD did themselves a disservice when they took their flyers off the menu for last year's Con, esp. after *promising* to allow snappage during the event. Their "excuse", IMO, was pretty lame...but that's another story...;)

I'd almost bet on a set of Larsons, and I'd even go so far as to say that PCar is *following the lead* of IB in that.....I'll also wager fairly heavily that there will be a *no snapping policy* in effect at PCar.

bill, WOULD be spending more time on Fun Spot's ride, IF it were any closer...

Good! Flats for Carowinds. Yay! CAn't wait till may.
Personally I don't know why Larson went with a 8 tub model. Capasity wise it's a even great nightmare and I believe it would be possible to build it with as many as 12 tubs.

As for PKI removing them? I know for certain people in the park ops know how much they are liked.

Spill it. C'mon, you know you want to.

All I think he means the rumors of moving The Flying Scooters to the old Flight Commander area in Coney Mall. When I was at PKI the person running the ride did not know much, but if you look in the grass you saw markers right next to the ride.
Whats the difference between the new larson flyers, the flyers at PKI and the flyers at PKD?

There are no bad coasters, only better coasters!!

The difference is the flyers at PKI are primo. The others elsewhere are either too fast to snap (IB) or too slow (HW).
my personal flyer favorite was Euclid Beach...
second was conneaut lake

coasterbruh...in general, the parks that have the older (sturdier?) Bisch-Rocco models will allow snapping. The newer version, the Larson flyers, are generally snappable, but parks seem to ffrown on the practice...

Personally, I'd like for more parks to take the lead of Knoebels, and allow snapping *as long as you don't damage the sails*. Something tells me that in a year or two, this is the likely result at IB...;)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

If PKI removes their Flyers, I will have no reason to ever renew my pass

FS:
When Euclid Beach closed, the Flyers went to Shady Lake. When Shady Lake Closed, the Flyers Went to Old Indiana. Where are they now?

I'm excited for you Flyer fans that this is coming to PCar, they could definitly use a flat. Two in one year is great! Corporate really knows what they're doing with 5 out of 7 parks, now if only they could get attendance @ Terra Mitica up, and stop treating PGA like they used to treat PCar, you'd have a few really solid parks. Bonfonte, PKD, PKI, and PCar all seem to be doing pretty well under the big guys.

Now if only the other family flat was Delirium, I'd be happy;).

Or another TR:TR...
;)

Unlikely Technoscorp since the new rides are going in the kiddie area
good question, John... i have no idea... i'd forgotten about shady lake...
i'll see what i can find out...

Yea - I finally learned how to snap! I too heard that they are just being relocated to the old Flight Commander spot. Carowinds gets a new set. But just in case - Save the Flyers!

I like to ride woodies.
