PKIs Flyers to Carowinds?

What no mention of your mentor and coach Coaster ChickN? ;(

The Golden Rule - Try it once and if you don't like you don't have to go on again!
I'm shocked Paramount hasn't added another Huss Giant Frisbee to PKD or PC. It's a people-eater of a flat ride, draws a lot of thrillseekers away from the coasters, is on my "Most Favorite Rides Evar.com" List, and increases park capacity a nice bit (as long as you're not taking away something at the same time). PKI and PCW seem to finally be getting "star steel coasters" for 2005 (in addition to FOF or TG for those fans), so that's something to look forward to. I hope we get to keep our Flyers at PKI and PC gets new ones. *gives best pouty face to PKI*

Sorry! Of course, I owe all the credit to Iggy ACE.

I like to ride woodies.

With the popularity of PKI's Flyers, I really don't see why they would remove them. I just wish they could add some sort of a break to the ride's engine so there isn't such a long slow-down which could let the "flying" cycle time feel longer. It already has a 2 -minute cycle now, but the thing takes nearly a minute an a half to stop completely.
Well, this is the company that took out a wave swinger at Carowinds and shipped it to California with no good reason. Anything can happen there and with Paramount it is VERY important to always remove rides before adding new ones so you don't increase park capacity :)
While I would not stop going to the park as i do now, losing the Flyers would dissapoint me. Especially after Saturday night's airshow!

I wish Shaggy would validate this or discredit this idea. I'm in the camp of those who would LOVE to have them in my park, but would also be with the "head scratchers" as to WHY.
During the Fall Freak Out event last Saturday, there were a quite a lot of questions asked to PKI staff about the status of the ride.

No solid answer was given but many different things were hinted around. Some say they are staying. Some people think they are being relocated in the park. Others think they are being located to another park.

Yesterday was incredible if you wanted to ride. There were a lot of enthusiasts riding Flying Eagles the entire day as there was a strong rumor going around that this might be the last time this season to ride them. I am not sure I believe that rumor but I decided to get in as many rides as I could. Just in case. I ended up with at least 15 rides.

Supposedly everything will be answered in the next couple of weeks. Is there a chance they may be leaving? Who knows? If they do end up leaving before the season is over, I am glad I got the chance to ride them. I ended up getting the best rides I have ever gotten on them last night.

If this were to happen, I would cry like a fat little five year old whos mommy just denied him his 12th piece of cake at his sisters wedding.
So I guess no one is saying anything for PKI or PC. That means we will not find out till next season.
I would not panic at this point in time.

If you look to the past... when a significant ride removal was pending... PKI has been pretty good about letting enthusiasts know so that they can get in their farewell rides.

That having been said.... I expect that no announcable (sp?) decision has been made at this point.

Shaggy

Well PKI did a bad job about the King Cobra being taken down.
Vortex,

As far as King Cobra goes, there was a strong rumor it was leaving but the park wasn't sure. If I had to guess on why the park didn't make a big announcement about the ride leaving it would be because they honestly didn't know what was in store for that location. As Shaggy can verify, the park has changed their minds last minute on a number of things. I am just glad I got to ride it closing day as I had a feeling it was leaving.

The funniest (i.e., most IRONIC) part is that you absolutely KNOW David Mandt is at least *aware* of this thread...;)

Might it be safe to say they (PP) haven't yet finalized the decision of the fate of the Eagles? Personally, PCar is closer to me, but I think EVERY park should have a set of snappable flyers...you are certainly capable of having a *gentle* ride if that's your preference! ;)

edit: Since Sean was posting at the same time, I am forced to wonder why they didn't just tear down EVERY other Togo in the US (esp. the one in Jersey, Danny!), and use them for parts to fix the ONE good Togo coaster there was....:)

I wouldn't mind knocking Viper out if it meant King Cobra staying in working order, but I still think Viper is hauntingly delicious. ;)

Personally, I have the feeling Flying Scooters is a ride David Mandt would be terrified of. He wasn't a big coaster rider and wasn't even big on riding the restored flume. Some people aren't thrillseekers.

As for Snapping the FLyers, My Charles Jaques Coney Cincinnati book features quotes from the Cincinnati Newspapers from the 1940's mention the more adventureous can even snap the cables and that sitting outside the flyers was commonplace due to the constant breeze created by them.

Chuck, who thinks it would be a bad move for PKI to remove the flyers without at least replacing them.

Well, I still think that watching a horse's ass for 3 minutes is more entertaining than riding flyers (and about half as sickening) but what do I know, I liked Hercules :)

But you like my Gamecocks, so you're still at least HALFWAY ok in my book Gerramie.

I heard this rumor also with two other rumors at the time. I know sometimes things change at the last min. in the park world. Well like I said on another form looks like we will have to wait till next season.

Moving or not, I too got 2 of my best rides ever, including a surprising 180 at the end of one. If it ends up being my last, I'm happy.

Flyers are just simply too good of an experience to take out. I can understand the low capacity issue in a big park, but at least PKI has the 10 tub model! They, like other rides made popular decades ago, have made a comeback in recent years. You just can't beat an interactive (and unpredictable) ride. It seems like Paramount is very happy with them regardless of design, and if one of their parks doesn't have one, they move to correct that problem. Whether or not every Paramount park will have one by 2010, I don't know. :) But it's sure nice to have a snappable one in Ohio. Knoebels is just too far for a one day trip!

I agree that a brake is needed for PKI's, and after visiting Lake Compounce, I am surprised that more parks haven't given theirs the same treatment. LC increased capacity by stopping them sooner. I believe theirs had some sort of rim drive in the center, but I know other sets that had different means of operation and stopped considerably fast. You know it's bad when your braking sequence is longer than the ride itself! But PKI's is far more exciting than any of the Larsons I've ridden. Though attractive in design, the Larsons just don't have that personality......the tubs feel heavier and therefore don't want to respond as quickly. You can't help but wish for more while onboard those things. Indy Beach made up for it by doing what few other parks can do......place it over water! Heck, even Conneaut's snapped better (with some reverse thinking).

All my group can do is head to PPP with anticipation, some crazy hats (:D), and hope that this unique ride will only move as far as the Flight Commander platform......
