PKI starts 2004 hype machine with announcement of WaterWorks removal

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Paramount's Kings Island today announced the removal of WaterWorks, the park's 15-acre water park. Its last day of operation will be September 1. The press release quotes general manager Craig Ross saying, "Our guests are in for a real surprise next season."

Well now I know where Great America is getting their slides from ;)
I'm with Jeff and Shaggy on this one. Just the title alone (I've yet to read the article) the only LOGICAL conclusion is that they are going to *massively* overhaul the waterpark. The "expansion" is likely to be so extensive that it will feel practically like an entire new area. Therefore, they decided to *make* it a new area.

My only question is will they turn that area of the park into a "totally immersive waterpark experience". There is real theming potential for a waterpark as anyone who has seen Disney's Blizzard Beach can attest.

I don't think that's quite what he meant. But to me it sounds like it's going to be some outrageous new roller coaster, a world record breaker of some sort. They're hyping it too much for it not to be something like that. Or even some new type of roller coaster that we've never seen before, it's all speculation, but i'm definitly looking forward to this announcement that's going to happen "real soon".

I hope a "Super Saturator" is involed somehow.

When I went there on July 5th, they had a survey that asked us if we planned on visiting the waterpark and if we knew that it was included with the admission. I would guess they are going to make an awesome waterpark, then charge an additional fee for using it. It might be similar to how Cedar Point has theirs set up. Just speculation from me, oh and lumpy72, I also hope that is true! We rode rollersoaker at Hershey and we had a blast squirting kids! That would be so cool if they got one of those! They are known for having a great children's area too. It would make it even nicer!

Perhaps its both - think IoA's Jurassic Park area with the single-rail coaster above the activities below. Except this time, its an extensive water park. That makes a lot of sense too! I think a Paramount Season Pass will be in my future ...

That was exactly what my first thought was. Now, for a real kicker they should send Stealth to PKI ;)

Very interesting. I also expected a WaterWorks expansion to compete with The Beach. I don't think it will be any hotels. Another themed area would make sense, including a hunky Beema in the middle? One could only hope. :-)

Gimme speed, height, airtime and plenty of LAUNCH!!!

As much as I like new attractions, I really pissed to hear this news. PKI has been getting all these new big rides every year. My home Paramount park is PGA, and they havn't gotten a coaster for 3 years. Paramount should be focusing on a new ride for PGA, not PKI.
Yes, Paramount should definitely focus all their attention on PGA, rather than its flagship and the number 2 seasonal park in the nation.

"Waterworks" may be going away, but that doesn't mean the water "Park" is going away.

Jerimy...How much does Blizzard Beach charge for admission anyway?! ;-)

It's also been three years since PKI's last major coaster. We was supposed to get another coaster instead of Delirium (x-flight) but it never happend, so I think PKI should get a new coaster.
Only think I can think of is a new Water Works with a new name and theme in that area.
Who said "we" were supposed to get another coaster instead of Delirium? Where do you people dig this crap up?

Look back at the press release, they added a new part!

"Our guests are in for a real surprise next season," hinted Craig M. Ross, Paramount's Kings Island's executive vice president and general manager. "It is going to be amazing. If you are a fan of WaterWorks, you are going to love what we are unveiling 2004."

It seems like it is just a new water park. All this hype for a water park... grrr...

Will PKI get something BIG in 2004? THEY BETTER BE!!!

I was having a talk with an area supvisor, and she said that the water park needs some repairs, so most of the rides will be shut down. I guess PKI decided to just close the whole water park! It might be a couple years before everything opens up again.

It seems fairly obvious that it's a bigger, better water park that's replacing the current one... I don't see anything else that water park fans would love other than another water park.
