PKI starts 2004 hype machine with announcement of WaterWorks removal

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Paramount's Kings Island today announced the removal of WaterWorks, the park's 15-acre water park. Its last day of operation will be September 1. The press release quotes general manager Craig Ross saying, "Our guests are in for a real surprise next season."

J2 sounds just fine with me.

Has anyone else noticed King Cobra is moving over by where the park shoots the fireworks? Still for sale on that used ride site though.

They would not be mentioning admission to their waterpark if there wasn't going to be one next year.

why does pki keep describing it as 15 acres? When it was expanded in 98', it went from 15 to 30 acres.... as other sites have suggested, does this mean only half of the park will be rennovated?

looking forward to what pki has in store for us in 2004..... and 2005.....

good point special. Im still wishing that they are just taking down the whole water park and making new rollercoasters but I know that it will be a new waterpark and as long as its themed and you dont have to walk as far to get to everything i will be statisfyed

"Our guests are in for a real surprise next season," hinted Craig M. Ross, Paramount's Kings Island's executive vice president and general manager. "It is going to be amazing. If you are a fan of WaterWorks, you are going to love what we are unveiling 2004."

Well, we can rule out a rollercoaster now. :)

As pointed out by some people... dont count your chickens till they are hatched. We dont know if the only thing being added is a revamped waterpark which in my honest opinion is a very smart thing to do on their part. That will definitely attract more of the very demographic that PKI is going for...families.

Perhaps a new coaster is in the works as well. Maybe a thrill ride. Remember that PKI added a thrill ride and revamped their dark ride for this year. We could be in for more of the same here.

There are massive power lines that go over the area. There won't be any big coasters built in that direction.
I say they'll add a Delirium to the water park and name it Frisbee.

What Trapper Dan really said was, "Be Careful! There are Indians around here!" Like the one over there behind that plastic rock..."

"There are massive power lines that go over the area. There won't be any big coasters built in that direction."

They could market it as the first coaster with power line head choppers.

I'm hoping a Flying Super Saturator coaster is a part of the WW revamp. I rode that coaster at Carowinds and loved it. It was just as fun standing under the ride and squirting people with the waterguns as it was going on the ride. That would be a great addition to the water park.
I'll put my 2-cents in on this one...

Move all of the attractions on the north side of the powerlines to the south side (wave pool area) so that the park is not so spread out. Can't build under the power lines so no new attractions there. Add some cool theming and make the place self supporting. For years there has been talk of the waterpark being a separate admission charge. (I can remember working at the park when WaterWorks openend) New entrance for season passholders was put in so, from my viewpoint, that is a good test of a gate and parking out there. With the parks this year down in attendance and revenues are flat to lower, it would make sense to charge a separate admission. $43 for the theme park...$28 for the waterpark and $55for a combo ticket. Would be a big increase to the bottom line. Although I know most who read Coasterbuzz are looking for a new coaster, I think parks need to go the family and entertainment route. Coasters are getting expensive and aren't the "bang for the buck" that they once were. (although I would love to see KI with a B&M...they need it!)

Again, these are just my thoughts and I have no inside knowledge of what they are planning. Since this is what I do for a living (consultant) this is what I would do with the waterpark.

Shawn I kind of agree with your thinking of getting the waterpark all into one area.

In all honesty if the park did do and that and then opened up the area where parts of the waterpark used to be then they could have a new section to the main park there. I would tend to think IF they did that then they would probably make it part of the kiddie section. To me that would make more sense since one would have to go through the kiddie section to get there.

My true opinion is that they are going to expand and improve the waterpark. Along with that they may rename it.

From the statement on the website I would bet they are going to expand the waterpark and try to include it into the overall park. It does feel quite isolated from the rest of the park in it's current location. Maybe they will add another themed section to the park on that side as well as build a new Waterpark.

Look back at the press release, they added a new part!

"Our guests are in for a real surprise next season," hinted Craig M. Ross, Paramount's Kings Island's executive vice president and general manager. "It is going to be amazing. If you are a fan of WaterWorks, you are going to love what we are unveiling 2004."

It seems like it is just a new water park. All this hype for a water park... grrr...

Pretty funny stxbomber that when I posted this over on PKI unlimited, you didn't believe me, but then when yuou found out it was true, you come over here and post it on coasterbuzz.*** This post was edited by cpmilliefan 8/15/2003 3:12:42 PM ***

the reason WaterWorks is spread out is because it will draw more people to the park. think of it this way, if the park was condensed and had all the rides next to eachother and it was about 7 acres wide. now take that and compare it to a spread out park of 15 acres. which would you want to go to? a park that is congested or a spread out park. a park that is actually bigger in size will draw more people to it, even if they both had the same amount of slides.

Sounds exactly like the Jeff Seibert spin machine at work. He knows how to stir up interest thats for sure.

If given the choice I'd choose a hamburger over a hotdog anyday of the week.

Stir up interest and lead you to believe else wise. Although, anything he says is true in one way or another. Best in the business.

Coaster Insomniacs

"This area of the park will be replaced by a more exciting and exotic experience. We plan to have all of the details available to share around Labor Day Weekend.... "

When they say "EXOTIC" I kind of think of a beach setting..like a Carribean theme....hell, maybe it will be Shlitterbaun of the Midwest? Who really knows!

ok look. Koasterking said---- "Oh, I guess I'm the only one who has seen the "Splash Works" towels everywhere? They've been selling them up front at the park for several days already. Maybe that's not an obvious, intended hint. "--- I know from a store supervisor for a fact those towels were there as a mistake. The park orderered sponge bob towels through paramount and thats what they got. If they were put out for sale it was a mistake.

By the way it seems you guys all know morethan even most PKI associates.
