I haven't been to the park in a few weeks. Has anyone seen any little markers or construction flags yet?

Plus, they really need a ride like that anyway, at least a Hyper of some sort.

They do infact have a hyper, SOB!! ANd I really dont think paramounts parks are tying to put any of their parks in the likenes fo CP. What I think paramount parks are showing the world is they they are in a leauge of their own and they can care less about records or the -est's (ie: fast-est, tall-est, long-est) what they are about is getting the people in and bring them back. Besides if every park was like every park I think that would be boring

On Flight of Fear, they simply removed all references to "The Outer Limits" and took out the, "There is nothing wrong with your equipment...we control the horizontal, and the vertical" segment from the ride pre-show video. While they were at it, they also replaced the shoulder bars with lap bars. And Joey, how could you have possibly missed that gigantic flying saucer?

There was actually more that was taken out. Before it launched, the ride used to make fun of you ("Intelligent beings on Earth... then why are you strapped in the harnesses!!" [launch]). The workers used to wear bright orange jumpsuits. There used to be music during the ride.

Top Gun used to have "steam" coming up from the trench below the trains in the station, and the queue used to go through the "aircraft carrier" below the "flight deck". I think all that stuff is still there, but they now route the queue around it instead of through it. Honestly, you aren't missing much.

But if it is all there, and if PKI is trying to become a Universal of the Midwest, why don't they reopen it? It may be a little thing to you, but when that is one of the things that a person is most impressed with in a park, it is really odd that it was all removed.

A lot of PKI's theming is done top notch when the rides open, but the rides are slowly changed and lose little touches that make them great. When people talk about Disney or Universal, they talk about their attention to detail. PKI starts with a grand scheme, but stops the upkeep. To me, it would be like if Disney re-routed Space Mountain's queue line so it didn't go through the space scenes or if Universal ran Jaws without a guide telling you what is going on. It just wouldn't be the same...

I wouldn't call PKI i theme park. Theme parks in my opinion have areas that are entirely themed to the same idea. Even universal follows this approach. One of the nice things about a true theme park (which there are not many in the US anymore) is that each area makes you feel like you are in another place or time the entire time you are in that area.

PKI has previously themed areas with now Parmount themed newer rides scattered everywhere in the park. Their new rides may be themed, but it is not a continuous theme to anything surrounding it. And i agree, they don't tend to maintain their theming well after the first couple of seasons. Adventure Express is another example of that.

The next question is one of protocol, i.e. what is the expected dress code at such an event?

If I may, (and obviously I'm not Shaggy) let me say that this is an EXCELLENT thought, and involves a LOT more than just attire. First, try to wear either PKI shirts or non-park wear...PKI doesn't want people showing up in SFMM merchandise on THEIR "big day".

Second, please remember that we (enthusiasts) are there as GUESTS, and that PKI extends these hospitalities as a COURTESY. Remaining *unobtrusive*, and staying out of the way, and remaining on BEST behavior, is the best way to help make sure PKI will *continue* to invite enthusiasts when they feel it is appropriate or is otherwise not a HASSLE for them to do so.

Sorry I can't make it, but DO go, have a great time, and remember to THANK those who invited you....keeping the relationship between *enthusiasts* and the parks a POSITIVE one is absolutely crucial if we are to maintain (and rebuild) some realtionships that had become....well, frankly, "strained" over the past year or so....

You represent not ONLY yourself, and any *clubs* you might belong to, but the enthusiast COMMUNITY as a whole. And for every TEN (or hundred, or thousand) good things the enthusiast community does for parks, it only takes ONE Bad Thing (TM-DAlthoff) to more than offset alot of the positive work done by the Shaggys and Jeff Sieberts of the world....thanks for being "Good Eggs"....:)

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Unmasked: CO's top-secret G:TR informant....she's funny too!

Your Mission is to figure it out.

So will Ethan Hunt, aka Tom Cruise, be on hand for the opening? MI3 is scheduled to open in 2005.

I guess we'll find out next week if it is MI:TR. *** Edited 8/3/2004 5:19:40 PM UTC by Gemini Greg***

If it's the Italian Job ride, it will not be a coaster. By the description that I read in the survey, a vehicle of some sort(probably a cooper) will take you from scene to scene. It was described as an immersive dark ride experience.
I hope it's not a movie tie-in ride, but it dosen't matter if it is, I'll just as be excited to see PKI get a thrilling coaster for the first time since 2000.
As for what you can wear to the media announcement?

Anthing apropriate in public but NOT another parks shirt or coaster shirt.

PKI shirts are probably more than welcome. *** Edited 8/3/2004 7:38:39 PM UTC by Charles Nungester***

While I hope its a 200+ roller coaster with a heavily themed line and some themeing on the ride i doubt it.

Its most likely a small coaster or a flat ride IMO

Don't dismiss the idea of an Italian Job coaster. The description mentioned "cars" in the shape of mini coopers. And plus, a coaster can go from scene to scene. Look at Revenge of the Mummy.

Also, I would like to say that survey's are not always meant to be followed.

I would pretty much bet it won't be a Italian Job or Addams family ride.

You ever think those might be missleading? Come on, PKI already has a drop tower then they ask about a addams family themed drop ride?

Borg Ass seems to be a hit, While I don't think the new ride will be a flying dutchman, Some other type of ride themed that way is a huge possiblity.

As long as it isn't a low capacity ride and is thrilling in some way or at least very fun, I'll be happy.

Chuck

"Borg Ass"

Can't we come up with a better abbreviation than that? Perhaps Borgailator?

Attire, nothing more than kackis and a 3 button shirt, but nothing less than jeans and a non-offenvive t-shirt.

PKI wear would be great if you have it, but it is a big no-no to have shirts from other parks as Charles Nungester said before.

As for seating. There might be more seating than you may think for enthusists, they just might not be able to see over the cameras and the tripods. The doors do close at promptly 10:30, so don't be late.

While I like the Italian job, I think the Adam's Family thrill attraction would fit in MUCH better and have a MUCH better long term effect. Not to mention name recognition also. But again that's just my opinion.

As for where either one of these rides would go. I'd be willing to bet where the antique cars are...the ones PKI doesn't use anymore...and Adam's family theme would fit in nicely in all the thick trees there.

Exactly my thoughts almost word for word! Did the Italian Job do that well? Is it that big of a franchise? Does it carry as much name recognition? In my mind, no. Not as much as Adam's family.

YES! It will BE revolved around 'The Italian Job'
I'm going to agree with Charles. I don't think it will be an AF or IJ ride.

Others have mentioned an IJ ride where the second set of antique cars are, but imagine a huge building in the middle of a very "wooded & natural" part of the park. Also, it wouldn't fit the theme of Rivertown. An IJ ride would only "fit" in Action Zone, IMO.

An AF ride would be great, but again out of place in most areas.

I can't wait to find out.

Really, all I was meaning to say by my comment comparing PKI to CP was that I remember back in the late 80's early 90's, when the two parks were more comperable to each other, and there was heavy debate over which park was better between fans of each. There hasn't been much of that the past 10-15 years, and I was just thinking that a move like a Giga would put PKI more on par with CP coaster wise.

Obviously, as far as theming and overall park appearance, PKI is far and away better than CP already. Their PR department is also far better, and more than generous with the coaster enthusiast community.

I was just wondering if anybody else seriously thinks a Giga could be in the cards for PKI?

So, what does tomb raider has to do with rivertown. I think that would be better fitting in the action zone, but its not there. One thing I can say about paramount parks is that they will pop a ride anywhere they see fit look at carowinds they have a nick area but the nick flying super saturator is in a totally different area. So is sponge bob square pants. Did they put scooby doo's haunted mansion in animation station...........no its not in its respective area. I dont see how an area would be out of its place unless disney decides to place space mountian smack dab in the middle of frontier land. Now thats out of place yet still, it wouldnt matter.
