Overrated- Raven No way this is #1 material, too short, and only one train? Now the Legend on the other hand...
Underrated- Roar at SFA, much better than Raven.
BW, who has been to HW plenty of times...

What do I Listen-To?
UNDERRATED:
- Millenium Force. i dont care how high it's rated, i can't be rated high enough. it's the perfect coaster.
- Flight of Fear. great theming, incredible ride, especially with the new restraints and especially when the midcourse breaks are off!
- thunderbolt. one of the all-time best rides ever built.
Underrated: Cornball Express, Viper (SFGA), Thunder Run, and the most underrated coaster of all is Timber Terror

Doesen't everyone mostly agree that WT is friggin great!
No. I'll take a standard impulse anyday.
I don't understand half of everyone's answers. Something actually has to be rated high to be "overrated", and something really has to be rated lower than you think it should be to be "underrated." I see all these people mentioning coasters generally thought of as bad as "overrated" and coasters generally thought of as great as "underrated." That's just not how it works.
Anyway, here are my choice:
Overrated goes to Magnum most of all, but also Montu, Nitro, Steel Force, SFGAm Viper, Knoebels Twister, and Villain. Magnum, Montu, Nitro, and Steel Force are complete bores, three of which are forceless, one just rough and painful. SFGAm's Viper gets far too much praise for a wooden coaster that only has one good half, Knoebels Twister is a painful bore, and Villain just plain sucks. It was good at one time, but that time is well past. Kennywood's Thunderbolt is also an overrated, rough piece of junk.
Underrated coasters are those like Zeus and Cyclops, Gwazi, BKF, Batman & Robin: The Chiller, and Iron Wolf. All fantastic, forceful rides IMO. And no, I don't consider any of them "rough" in any way, shape, or form.

Overrated: Son of Beast, X-Flight

Millennium Force Laps-111
**Vertigo Launches-21**
Dragster Launches-4
Over Rated? I think Montu is a little over rated.
Underrated: Twister, Laser, Great American Scream Machine [GAdv],Talon, Great Bear, Lightning Racer, Hershey Wildcat, Big Bad Wolf
Overrated: Goliath, SoB, Beast, Phantom's Revenge (I think this is just cause I'm bitter), Hulk, Zonga
Goliath is boring - come east and ride a *real* hyper coaster. SoB hurt and after the midcourse put me to sleep. Beast has never done anything for me - its too slow. PR replaced my baby and I miss the loops. Hulk is good, but in no way shape or form a standout, especially not #1 steel coaster. Zonga hurt so bad I'd be scared to ride it again.
Underrated: Thunderbolt (KP), Lightning Racer (and all other GCI creations!), Wicked Twister, Dueling Dragons, Kumba

Magnum leads this group by far. It may have been the first hyper coaster, but many coasters have come along since then that have improved upon the concept in countless ways. PKD's Volcano has a great launch but is just plain boring after the loop out of the mountain... plus it is way too short for a coaster with TWO launches! Those are two that instantly come to mind...
Underrated:
Hershey's Lightning Racer never gets the respect it deserves, nor does Great Bear (a short but interesting ride) and Knoebels Twister (one of the greatest twisters ever built.) The Dania Beach Hurricane never gets any recognition but is easily one of the best wooden coasters around. Villian always get trashed but gave great rides last summer. And Cedar Point's Blue Streak was delivering incredible airtime last summer as well... it was so good, that even if Millennium Force had no line, we would have been riding Blue Streak anyway!

Ding! Give that man a prize (what, I don't know yet...)
I find it amusing that some coasters appear in this thread as both "overrated" AND "underrated". Top 10 coasters are appearing as "underrated" (how is THAT possible?)
Now, having said that, of course I'm going to have my say:
Underrated: Cornball Express. This little gem is easily in my top 10 wood, ranking right up there with Phoenix, Raven, Legend, Astroland's Cyclone, Georgia Cyclone, SFGAm's Viper, Megaphobia... Yes, it's just that good.
Also Chang (I'm far from a fan of standups, but this is one of the most tolerable. Mixed praise, I know ;) ) and Talon (I know people say it's forceless; I must catch it on good days, because that little invert kicks me around pretty good)
Overrated: Um. Hmmm. X. Goliath. Delayja Vu.

"Another visitor. Stay a while. Stay FOREVER!"
Same with MF from the first row: The opening moments are amazing, but the rest of the experience just can't keep up.
Underrated: Cyclops, Zeus, any standard Vekoma Invertigo. I am partial to cobra rolls and going backwards through the vertical loop is just contrary to nature.
