Obligatory Beer Post

Some of you are so self-rightious. I have a beer at parks all the time, along with several bottles of water. I'm not a big drinker, but I do enjoy it responsibly.

An intoxicated idiot is still an idiot, the alcohol is no excuse.

Isn't that the truth. LOL. I will admit that I would be the one you see waiting outside the Festhaus at BGW at 11:20am, just waiting for it to open for the first beer of the morning. I enjoy beer very much, and when on vacation, I just love to induldge myself. Most of the time I'm too busy to drink any other time. That's why I'm always on taking vactions I guess:). I've never had a problem with dehydration, or getting sick riding. I have to drink an awful lot to get stupid, and frankly I'd go broke trying to do it at a park. I think it's ok to drink at a park as long as you've got a DD, and don't make an ass of yourself by getting falling down drunk. As with everything in life, limitation is key.

Enjoy yourself. These are the good old days you're going to miss in the years ahead.

Well here is what I think about beer.

Wait nevermind too young;)

i was just watching one of the IAAPA videos for ride-op training and they said that if you suspect if anyone is drunk or on drugs that you shouldn't let them on...

Ok guys, i've got a confession to make. I live in Holland, so you'll probably know that we have exceptional laws concerning drugs. About two weeks ago i went to my home park SFH with three friends and i had a wish to experience a rollercoaster-ride while being on XTC...

I can tell you guys... Riding Goliath doing that stuff... words can't describe it... ROLLERCOASTERHEAVEN!!!!!!!!!!

But i won't make a habbit out of it, one time was enough... maybe next year again. Don't want to get addicted.

Ecstasy can still turn your brain into Swiss cheese, especially here in the US where it isn't legal. You don't know what you're getting and frankly you're pretty stupid for trying something made in some stranger's basement. Shame it's now associated with rave culture and techno music.

Anyway, OutKast, makes a good point. An idiot is an idiot drunk or sober. I'm a fun drunk myself. Ask anybody. The only obnoxious drunk I've seen at a park was at Kennywood where, as Greg mentioned, they don't serve beer.

And I've found myself craving a beer, just for the sake of having one, at both Holiday World and Kennywood. It's just a satisfying adult pleasure. Don't write off alcohol consumption just because you've been around bad drunks.

I'll back Jeff up on that he's a fun drunk . "Don't cross the streams, man, don't cross the streams" Oh, and I have video to prove this... he he he. Still disappointed we didn't get to see that side of him at BuzzCon...

No, that was cross the streams, as in Ghostbusters. Had to do with a rest room stop. ;)

And I had Benadryl at CBcon... alcohol would've been a bad idea.

The only problem with the "hospitality houses" at the Busch parks? They only serve Busch beers.

Now if Yuengling, Guinness, or Heineken start theme park chains... watch out.

The problem when you mention beer at parks is that certain people assume that if you're gonna have 1 beer you automatically have 20 and get all *poop*faced drunk.

If I'm drinking water all day to stay hydrated, sometimes I just crave a Mountain Dew for something different... sometimes I just crave a beer. That doesn't mean I'm gonna be the drunk guy peeing in the BKF station. (I would, however, do so on Raging Wolf Bobs, but just out of utter disgust for the ride.)

Yuengling? Someone must be from PA! I spent a lot of time on the road doing concert production. I remember that Yuengling was a local PA favorite..

On topic: I had beer once at a park. With Joe, A single beer after a complete day of coaster riding at CP and SFWOA.

23 different coasters in 11.5 hours, why not?

I'm obviously not old enough to drink, (not that I ever plan to) but Knoebel's does not allow beer on the premisis as far as I know.

I enjoy a nice, cold beer now and then, especially on the really hot days. Generally I'll quaff one with dinner (except we've been stuffing ourselves at Midway Market and I don't recall seeing beer on the menu). But drinking too much beer means I can't stand in a line longer than 30 minutes without having to hit a restroom. Old ladies disease.

We generally bring a cooler along, and the last couple trips the hubby and I took (to CP and BuzzCon) we threw in some Corona. Funny, *I* was the one downing them in the hotel while the hubby stuck with his precious Coke. When the hubby and I take trips to CP without our son, we like to hit Margaritaville and down a pitcher or two of margaritas.

I was sorely tempted to have one at Fricano's after Timbersfest, but everyone else (many were underage) stuck with pop, and I had a bit of a drive to get to the hotel. I'm a firm believer in the Do Not Drink and Drive rule. So if I have a hotel very close by (like staying on the point), I'm more likely to indulge.

I am also one of those people who gets very happy and friendly when I drink. Maybe too friendly, so I tend limit my drinking unless I'm with people I trust.

MMMMMMMMMMMMMM . . . . . . BEER!

BMCOASTER

bmcoaster@wi.rr.com

I can't recall ever having a drink at a park. I have had one dining outside the park on occasion. Just doesn't seem to go with the park experience for me.

In terms of rides, anyone who is heavily drunk should not be allowed to ride since they may not have the normal body rigidity or position for the restraints.

I think people who are catagorically against alcohol at amusement parks are self-righteous butt-nuggets who think that their opinion should reign supreme (but we all have our opinions dont we? :))

Anyway, if I want a beer, I will have one. If the park doesnt sell it to me, I'm sure I can find a gas station/drug store/supermarket that will. For me, drinking beer and riding a coaster does NOT induce puking. Hell, I chugged an MGD in the station of Great White @ SWT (B:TR clone) and felt Tony the Tiger GRRRRRREEEEAAATT! when I got off.

And maybe it's more "environmental"/"cultural". Personally, I do not understand why some feel that alcohol is counter to a "family" atmosphere. Every "family" gathering I went to growing up: cookouts, weddings, funerals, holidays, all had some modicum of alcohol around. I think people in the USA are WAY to anal about things like this. Perhaps if it wasnt so TABOO, there would be less cases of abuse because people would talk about it. Maybe we could actually learn something from the *gasp* FRENCH :)

Ok now that I've had a few minutes to catch my breath and dry my eyes and possibly get up off the ground from that one ...

I agree that alcohol doesn't ruin a "family" atmosphere. It's those that abuse it. As my signature basically says, anything in moderation is not a bad thing (except coasters of course ... ). It's not the alcohol that makes it bad, its the people ... and I agree that the *gasp* French have a better idea on that subject! Now of course I'm not supposed to know *anything* about this for another 10 months but ...

Local PA fav? so was that awful "soda" product....but you won't see me drinking THAT stuff...ewww, that's right...it was called Moxie. Then again, there was also a GREAT soda product I remember from childhood called "birch beer", awesome stuff.....

bill, thinking that everyone should just realize that I really DO know what's best for everyone, that it is "GRREEEAAAT" to see jeremy back, and that the French may have the idea of alcohol, but that the American self-righteous crowd would NEVER want to learn anything useful from "foreigners"....;)

He said "butt-nugget." Good times.

Yeah, we're up tight about a lot of things (our reluctance to talk about sex is ridiculous). I certainly understand the negatives as the son of an third generation alcoholic, but to write it off because you don't like it is, as Hostyl said, often laced in preachy self-righteousness.

Now, a little of that I'm sure comes from younger folks who aren't legal to consume, and frankly shouldn't be anyway. I'm OK with that. Do what your parents say and don't drink, because they're right. But when you are legal (and that's 19 in Canada, eh), give it a whirl, be responsible and form your own opinions.

I personally do not drink at amusement parks (I don't like to drink when I'm out in the heat/sun). However, I don't have a problem with others who do. As far as drinking and the family atmosphere not being compatable, I use it as a learning experience for my kids. It gives me the opertunity to show them what is and what is not apropriate behavior. This also applies to profanity, overzealous displays of public affection, improper dress, line jumping etc..
