No Smoking at Six Flags.

Problem is... by you smoking. Your effecting others. You could shorten their life. I have a deep hatred to anyone who smokes in public places, or when other guest are around. A designated smoking area won't work. Never do.

Also, as some posted. There are some who are alergic to smoke. And the whole laughing, talking, breathing thing... Yet again, those are natural human things, smoking isn't. Smoking in public places is just being rude. It's like. "Here, let me blow smoke in your breathing air, so you can choke, cough, and make your clothes smell!" *** Edited 1/20/2006 12:50:30 AM UTC by Keith2005***

Wow, a DEEP hatred. You must really hate a lot of people a whole bunch. It's sad that you have to walk around all the time with this angst, it truly is.

I, on the other hand, have deep sympathy for close minded individuals! ;)

Incidentalist, my thoughts exactly. I would agree that it WOULD BE wrong if they did not allow guests to smoke at all in the park AND did not allow re-entry. As it stands, smoking areas are provided.
Keith, why do they not work? I don't understand why you say this. It works fine as long as the areas are outdoors or have a sophisticated air filter system.
Smoke gives me a headache from the first sniff. If outside I can easily get out of the path of a smoker as soon as I smell it or notice them. So I am saying that it doesn't bother me a whole lot if I have a way to escape. Smoke all you want if I can get away because it is your right to do so.

Children don't have the option or the knowledge to get away. They have to stay with Mommy and Daddy. So I am saying that in the childrens areas of a park I agree that smoking should not be allowed. It doesn't usuially anger me when I see smokers in a childrens area because we are still outside in a nonconfined area.

Line smokers are the ones who really tic me off. I usuially don't say anything to them. I do try to keep away from them in line, sometimes leaving a gap between me and the people in front of me. I sometimes have to explain to at least the people in back of me why I am not moving forward with th rest of the line, and that I will move forward in a moment, when it is safe and smokeless. I will inconspicuously hold my breath while passing a line smoker in the back and forth queues. Should I have to hold my breath, especially when it should be known by smokers that they are not allowed to smole in the lines?

Can't people smoke before or after they get in line for a ride or refreshment? I really wonder if line smokers are just uninformed of the no smoking policy or if they are just so disrespectful to everyone else that they just don't care.

Let me recap so that I don't get too flamed...I don't mind smokers on a sidewalk in which I can get away from them if needed, because they have the right to smoke sometimes. It's not okay to smoke around other peoples children in an area designed for them but it doesn't make me mad or anything. I feel smokers should respect children more than adults on this matter. Line smokers really tic me off. I sometimes wish I had a supersoaker in these situations.

Blah, blah, blah. The same smoking/anti-smoking argument we've had about once every six months around here. It's really just the non-smokers making themselves look like complete asses.

- John, a non-smoker who just doesn't like smoke in lines or crowded places. Do whatever the hell you like when I'm not forced to stand next to you

I think most of the non-smokers agree with you John. It just seems there are a few too many bad apple smokers that don't use common sense at the parks, which angers a lot of non-smokers.

I have no problem asking if someone would stop smoking while I'm in line (especially long lines.) Then again, I'm from California, and it's not that much of a problem. :)

dexter, I agree with you and that was well put. I even get pissed at other smokers for some of the b.s. they pull. Two great examples:

- I had a guy in front of me at an NHL game lighting up and trying to keep it on the down low. Dude, your the only person in the entire building smoking, don't act surprised when the ushers notice and tell you to put it out.

- At a concert at a non-smoking facility. I wasn't upset with the smoking aspect, it was the fact that they were purposefully burning holes in the seatbacks and cushions when they put them out. The concert was in a much more upscale venue then it needed to be in, but how about just a little respect for the nice surroundings?

Unfortunately these smokers, and others like them, ruin it for the rest of us that try to be as courteous as possible with our habit. I know my smoke doesn't magically vanish upon my exhale, but I almost always try to exhale upwards and away from anybody near me.

Yeah is Good!
I wish they would ban stinky people too! I hate breathing in all the BO!

...and how about Iron Maiden T's too! It is not 1983 anymore and I'm offended by bloody skulls! :-)

I'm offended by people who are offended by my old Maiden T's. :)

Old Maiden T's? You have T-Shirts of a card game? ;)

In 1983, all the cool kids had Old Maid shirts.

Headbangers weren't hanging out in dark bedrooms with the stereos cranked getting high, we had the stereos cranked to cover the sounds of all-night Old Maid sessions.

You might not want to spend a full day in an amusement park then, especially in the summer! ;)

HEY! Iron Maiden RULZ!!!

Stinky people suck, but sometimes they can't help it...like when they have been covered in stinky water. lol.

Incindentalist, Let me just say, I have a lot of friends who smoke. They are all respectful with their habbit like you seem to be. I know it's just a few bad apples who make all of the others look bad. I understand that it's a right and a choice to smoke, and I have no problem with it.

John, Sorry if I made you make me make you look like a complete ass.(?) It sounds to me like you and I agree, and yet you are hostile. Let me also agree with the blah, blah, blah part, except that there are a lot of people here who haven't got to participate in a coasterbuzz smoking discussion yet...

You are right. This is redundant.

I have never, and I mean NEVER, had someone get upset when I asked if they could please put out their cigarette because I'm sensitive to smoke, or I don't want it around my kid. The majority of smokers are highly sensitive to how others are reacting to the smoke.

And the one's who aren't will usually respond well to a polite reminder.

Personally, I think smoking anywhere anytime should be against the law... but I'll have to wait a while for that one.

Drinking is banned, why do people have such a hard time grasping the fact that smoking is banned, too?

Plus, why is this news? Smoking was banned (except for designated areas) in SFoG for the whole 2005 season.

Lastly, I think when they say "zones" that needs to mean "zone" and that needs to be outside the park.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
Smoking cigarettes should be illegal? ok, whatever

Drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking cigarettes aren't anywhere close to being the same thing. The only thing they have in common is they both, POTENTIALLY, have the possibility of affecting other guests in negative ways. But so do a lot of other things that aren't 'banned'.

Why is this news? Because we're not talking exclusively about SFoG. I had no idea that SFoG had designated smoking sections last year because I didn't visit that park last year. The SF parks I visited last year did not have those restrictions, but they will this year and that's why it's news.

Lastly, you just proved Michael Darling (John's) point. Congratulations, you've won a carton of Parliament Lights and I have a great idea where you can stick them!

In my pocket! What did you think I was going to say? ;)

Yeah is Good!
It really ticks me off that most of the IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL crowd are the ones who.

Spout out foul langauge like it's queens english with every other word being F or d or MF.

Crank car stereo's to unhealthy decible levels thining they are cool while 98 percent of the people around you are actually ticked about it.

Think that making new laws and rules is the answer to everything. When actaully enforcing the laws already out there, is.

and last but not least,

Demand that their little 4% of the population gets the headlines, when in actuality it isn't mainstream at all.

a_hoffman50's avatar
While I don't think that smoking should be illegal, I still think that it is a good idea to restrict the act to certain areas of public places. I do not understand how smoking and drinking are the same? Drinking affects a person's ability to think clearly. (Some people do not need help in that department!;)) Smoking doesn't affect ability to think clearly and rationally.
Non-smokers are 4% of the population, Charles???

I don't know what part of Tobacco Road you live on, but nationwide Non-smokers make up 79.1% of the population (2004 data).

--George H

I didn't say that, Nor was I refering specifically to parks.

I said Im getting sick of all the four percents taking up 90% of the news.

I would say that probably only 4% are allergic to smoke and they have a right to be vocal. However they don't IMHO have a right to tell me what I can do and where, Expecially in my own home.

Thats all Im trying to say.
Like I said before, I've always been concious of trying not to bother someone with my habit.

Then there's the times when you in a DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA and someone tells you would you put that out? This in a 10X15 area of a 800,000 square foot total area. I sure hope they don't feel offended when I tell them to kiss my backside.
