Also, as some posted. There are some who are alergic to smoke. And the whole laughing, talking, breathing thing... Yet again, those are natural human things, smoking isn't. Smoking in public places is just being rude. It's like. "Here, let me blow smoke in your breathing air, so you can choke, cough, and make your clothes smell!" *** Edited 1/20/2006 12:50:30 AM UTC by Keith2005***
I, on the other hand, have deep sympathy for close minded individuals! ;)
Children don't have the option or the knowledge to get away. They have to stay with Mommy and Daddy. So I am saying that in the childrens areas of a park I agree that smoking should not be allowed. It doesn't usuially anger me when I see smokers in a childrens area because we are still outside in a nonconfined area.
Line smokers are the ones who really tic me off. I usuially don't say anything to them. I do try to keep away from them in line, sometimes leaving a gap between me and the people in front of me. I sometimes have to explain to at least the people in back of me why I am not moving forward with th rest of the line, and that I will move forward in a moment, when it is safe and smokeless. I will inconspicuously hold my breath while passing a line smoker in the back and forth queues. Should I have to hold my breath, especially when it should be known by smokers that they are not allowed to smole in the lines?
Can't people smoke before or after they get in line for a ride or refreshment? I really wonder if line smokers are just uninformed of the no smoking policy or if they are just so disrespectful to everyone else that they just don't care.
Let me recap so that I don't get too flamed...I don't mind smokers on a sidewalk in which I can get away from them if needed, because they have the right to smoke sometimes. It's not okay to smoke around other peoples children in an area designed for them but it doesn't make me mad or anything. I feel smokers should respect children more than adults on this matter. Line smokers really tic me off. I sometimes wish I had a supersoaker in these situations.
- John, a non-smoker who just doesn't like smoke in lines or crowded places. Do whatever the hell you like when I'm not forced to stand next to you
I have no problem asking if someone would stop smoking while I'm in line (especially long lines.) Then again, I'm from California, and it's not that much of a problem. :)
- I had a guy in front of me at an NHL game lighting up and trying to keep it on the down low. Dude, your the only person in the entire building smoking, don't act surprised when the ushers notice and tell you to put it out.
- At a concert at a non-smoking facility. I wasn't upset with the smoking aspect, it was the fact that they were purposefully burning holes in the seatbacks and cushions when they put them out. The concert was in a much more upscale venue then it needed to be in, but how about just a little respect for the nice surroundings?
Unfortunately these smokers, and others like them, ruin it for the rest of us that try to be as courteous as possible with our habit. I know my smoke doesn't magically vanish upon my exhale, but I almost always try to exhale upwards and away from anybody near me.

...and how about Iron Maiden T's too! It is not 1983 anymore and I'm offended by bloody skulls! :-)
Headbangers weren't hanging out in dark bedrooms with the stereos cranked getting high, we had the stereos cranked to cover the sounds of all-night Old Maid sessions.

I wish they would ban stinky people too! I hate breathing in all the BO!
You might not want to spend a full day in an amusement park then, especially in the summer! ;)
Stinky people suck, but sometimes they can't help it...like when they have been covered in stinky water. lol.
Incindentalist, Let me just say, I have a lot of friends who smoke. They are all respectful with their habbit like you seem to be. I know it's just a few bad apples who make all of the others look bad. I understand that it's a right and a choice to smoke, and I have no problem with it.
John, Sorry if I made you make me make you look like a complete ass.(?) It sounds to me like you and I agree, and yet you are hostile. Let me also agree with the blah, blah, blah part, except that there are a lot of people here who haven't got to participate in a coasterbuzz smoking discussion yet...
You are right. This is redundant.

And the one's who aren't will usually respond well to a polite reminder.
Drinking is banned, why do people have such a hard time grasping the fact that smoking is banned, too?
Plus, why is this news? Smoking was banned (except for designated areas) in SFoG for the whole 2005 season.
Lastly, I think when they say "zones" that needs to mean "zone" and that needs to be outside the park.
Drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking cigarettes aren't anywhere close to being the same thing. The only thing they have in common is they both, POTENTIALLY, have the possibility of affecting other guests in negative ways. But so do a lot of other things that aren't 'banned'.
Why is this news? Because we're not talking exclusively about SFoG. I had no idea that SFoG had designated smoking sections last year because I didn't visit that park last year. The SF parks I visited last year did not have those restrictions, but they will this year and that's why it's news.
Lastly, you just proved Michael Darling (John's) point. Congratulations, you've won a carton of Parliament Lights and I have a great idea where you can stick them!
In my pocket! What did you think I was going to say? ;)

Spout out foul langauge like it's queens english with every other word being F or d or MF.
Crank car stereo's to unhealthy decible levels thining they are cool while 98 percent of the people around you are actually ticked about it.
Think that making new laws and rules is the answer to everything. When actaully enforcing the laws already out there, is.
and last but not least,
Demand that their little 4% of the population gets the headlines, when in actuality it isn't mainstream at all.
I don't know what part of Tobacco Road you live on, but nationwide Non-smokers make up 79.1% of the population (2004 data).

I said Im getting sick of all the four percents taking up 90% of the news.
I would say that probably only 4% are allergic to smoke and they have a right to be vocal. However they don't IMHO have a right to tell me what I can do and where, Expecially in my own home.
Thats all Im trying to say.
Like I said before, I've always been concious of trying not to bother someone with my habit.
Then there's the times when you in a DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA and someone tells you would you put that out? This in a 10X15 area of a 800,000 square foot total area. I sure hope they don't feel offended when I tell them to kiss my backside.
