No Smoking at Six Flags.

I don't have any problems with people smoking. I used to smoke a long time ago and whatever you do to your body is your own business.

I don't have problems with friends smoking as long as it's not in my face. I won't allow it in my car nor do I want to have to deal with it in line. I agree with "smoke-free" buildings however I don't think it should be banned in restaurants/bars. Here in Charleston they have been trying to ban smoking in EVERY public building. Personally I think they are going a little too far trying to ban smoking in bars. Drinking and smoking kind of go hand in hand. ;-)

I don't do either anymore, which is WHY I don't go to bars (way too many smokers.....lol.)

I think each park should have "designated areas" for smokers. It would keep everyone happy.

The Carbon Monoxide from your tailpipe is a thousand times that of three cigaretes or even three cartons burning at once.

That's a pretty impressive fact. Again just finding the topic intriguing I did more research. First, let me say that I don't care if people smoke and I don't care if it gets banned in places or not. But 1000 times more CO from car exhaust than a cigarette is a lot. So I found a site that had the concentrations of smoke and exhaust. It says that a cigarette contains 30,000 ppm of CO and car exhaust has 7,000 ppm of CO. So the concentration of cigarette smoke is about 4.3 times as much. But of course the amount of car exhaust produced is definitely more than 4.3 times as much as cigarette smoke. But is the rate car exhaust is produced really 4,300 times as much? I doubt it. If there are errors in my logic please point them out.

I also found a site on the smoker's side. They use common sense and explain that car exhaust is more harmful than cigarette smoke and that you don't hear of anyone comitting suicide by cigarettes.

I kept looking around and saw another study. I thought the interesting thing they pointed out was that if a person continuously inhaled cigarette smoke for 30 minutes it would be fatal.

And of course the original statement might have been "overstated" but why try to argue something you believe so strongly about using false facts and extravagant figures? I mean one could easily argue that the pollution from transportation is way more troublesome to everyone than cigarette smoke. Many places estimate air pollution is 90% the fault of transportation.

Yes, except prohibition was in place for the entire country. We're talking about Six Flags amusement parks here. I don't think it's going to cause a great depression. Perhaps bankruptcy of the company if Corey and I stop going, but that's anther story. (now before anyone quotes me and says "hurrrrr if enthusiasts stop going it wont hurt them hurrrrr " in case any of you didn't get it, it's a joke that basically says corey and i drink a lot.)

Wow, this has turned metaphysical here (ie is out of touch with reality) for example:

-Secondhand smoke is not harmful to your health. Tell that to the stewardess that won that law suit and tobacco companies since they put a filter on the smokers end to protect them from some particles in secondhand smoke. Also don’t compare car exhaust to cigarettes, for one thing no one spends two hours in a semi enclosed space breathing in car exhaust; when people do it in lines people do. Also one of my grandfather died of lung cancer 30 years after he stopped smoking and frequented bars so the doctor told us his cancer had as much of a chance of being caused by secondhand smoke as his original smoking.

-Why don’t smokers just stop? Wow, someone must have missed their Just Say No class in elementary school. This is why I give any smoker over 50 a free pass and pity them since they obviously started before people knew smoking is dangerous. As for the younger ones, they immediately lose some respect from me I seriously don’t understand why you started. Maybe my view is skewed though since I have watched 4 people in my family (including both my grandfathers) die from lung cancer and have yet to experience someone dieing from random car exhaust, but hey that’s my opinion.

Touchdown, Are you perfect? Id guess not.

I never once said Cigarete smoking was safe nor do I condone anyone to do it.

I've lost family to lung cancer also, so lets not go there. Theres fact in the smoking can cause cancer.

However, I also knew a 19 year old die from lung cancer who never smoked a day in his life. Nor did his parents.

What Im saying is just about anything can kill you if you get enough of it and that has everything to do with my car exahust comparison.

Chuck, who's had a friend and two co-workers die from carbon monixide poisoning from car exauhst in a enclosed area.

You know what.. there is more cancer causing agents then just cigarettes. Aspratame which is in all DIET sodas is a cancer causing agent, heck there's so many I don't know where to begin. You die one way or another and the way I look at it EVERYTHING you eat or do has some effect on you. I wouldn't be surprised if a study found McDonald's causes more detahs then cigarettes. Just think how Unhealthy all that grease is for your kids, wow. Or all the sugar in soda/candy that rots your teeth and eats away your gums the SAME way cigarettes do. Everything adds up.. it's a matter of personal choice: either you smoke or you don't! If you don't like being around it, DO somethign about it instead of sitting there and crying like a little 2 year old.
Exactly Joey.

Basically all you should be able to do is eat home raised vegetables that have never been sprayed or rained on by acid rain. Drink only mountain spring water straight from the spring because that plastic bottle is bad for the environment and clogs landfills. Oh and walk everyplace you go.

You must quit everything else! It's either killing you or bothering someone else :)

Chuck, who reminds you not to go to the bathroom, It's polluting our water.

JUST STOP IT, STOP IT! YOU SHOULD QUIT!
:) :) :)

Joey, while I agree carcinongens are everywhere; aspratame is not one of them. For those of you that dont know aspraatame is a molecule made up of 2 amino acids (chain of amino acids=protein.) A vast majority of aspratame is digested into its amino acid base units (which are the building blocks of proteins and ubiquious in your body) and if the small amount thats not digested is a carcinogen (and there is no human evidence that this is so) then we are all in trouble. To sum up charbroilled meat has a greater possibility of being a source of carcinogens then diet soda.

While you hear about tons of carcinogens in the news everyday, only one consumer item has been proven scientfically to be a cause of cancer: tobacco which is why it recieves the negative publicity and coupled with the proof that 2nd hand smoke can be more lethal then 1st hand smoke, the cause of public support for banning it everywhere. When something else if found to have such a strong corilation and is a threat to those around you like tobacco, you will see a similar outcry spring up.

Sorry about the science stuff, Im studying to become a doctor. Getting back on topic, my problem with smokers in line is because inhaling the fumes litterally gives me a headache (not the best thing to have prior to jumping on a roller coaster), which is why I dont go to bars often (thats is until my town banned smoking in all public indoor areas :).) Generally I dont care if people want to poison themselves but when it negatively affects me is when I have a problem; for instance if you chewed tobacco without making a mess in line (ie deposed of the juice properely) I wouldnt care. I know its a pain to smokers to be curtailed like this, but there is seriously no other widely used consumer product like the one you are using that causes an iminent, proven threat like smoking.

And to answer your question, no I am not perfect; Im overweight and dont get enough sleep, but these problems alone wont kill people around me. *** Edited 1/23/2006 1:40:25 AM UTC by Touchdown***

What idiot said "Do it for the children". Please! How many times have I heard that, especially in Boston, where I'm from. The real reason smoking is banned in bars & clubs is for economic reasons. The airlines originally banned smoking not because of the "safety and comfort of our passengers" ,it saves them millions of dollars in fuel. The airlines used to filter the old air out and pump fresh air in the cabin, now they circulate the same stale air for the entire flight. It is the reason more people are getting sick while flying.

I visited Holiday World last year and they provided a smoking area which was in a beautiful location. As long as they provide a designated area(s), I have no problem.

The difference between smokers and non-smokers is that we don't care if you don't smoke.

Smokers should just excercise proper etiquette and non smokers should know not to stand around smokers. problem solved. But of course all the non smokers have to cry about children and air quality... they usually start as soon as they step out of their SUV.

Fat Chick in a tutu being fed by a midget.

fanofwood, where did you learn that little fact about airplanes? Gave me a good laugh. Funny because it's not true. They banned smoking on airplanes for the comfort and safety of passengers. Has nothing to do with the filtration system.
Charles, don't you know you're not supposed to drink mountain spring water right from the spring? That stuff is full or little parasites and protozoa, all courtesy of those cute furry little woodland animals that like to poop next to and in streams.

Personally, I like the idea of designated smoking areas. While the parks are at it, they should have a designated stupid people area, designated rude people area, and a designated stroller area. (No Strollers Beyond This Point! Bringing a Stroller Into This Area Will Be Cause For Immediate Removal From The Park)

I am a travel agent, and I know many people that work as mechanics for the airlines. I know for a fact that it is true.
Well RGB, why not just empty and close all the parks then, because with those rules there would be no one there! ;) *** Edited 1/23/2006 9:30:59 PM UTC by DWeaver***
Dude, I still remember our trip through the rockies in 1980. We stopped on the side of the highway for this waterfall that was comming down. Man, that water was good, Not to mention making your hair baby soft.

Chuck, just wishing for the hair he had, Let alone the water :)

Dweaver, they'd still be there. Just in their designated areas...

Oh wait, the stupid people would be too stupid to recognize where their designated area is. The rude ones would just say f*** this, and go wherever they wanted. And the parents with the strollers would stand blocking the midway asking each other whether they belonged in the stupid area or the rude area.

Never mind.

^ ROFL! :)

"Excuse me miss, can I ask you a question? I've got a FastPass for the stupid people's area, but my kid is stuck in the stroller area with his rude father, can I go get them without losing my place in the virtual queue?"

;)
