News: Kingda Ka

I have no comeback for that one, only images in my head that I must get out. ;-)
Oh. My. "Daddy, why are there Arrow Horsecollars mounted to the headboard?" asks the little Gonchlings.

Well at least it ain't Togo...

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

No, he has the Togo standup restraints in the "Dungeon"...

Actually, Gonch, like myself, has that weird Togo Immunity DNA sequence built in.

Oh, and you like "Gonchlings", don't ya?;)

Guys, 418ft. drop + 129ft. hill = INSANE PROLONGED AIRTIME!!

Wait and see if you still think the "bunny hill" is nothing special after you ride it. ;)

MrX: they could have added a few more hills, though.

The could have added a few more hills. Of course, at these kinda of speeds, any sort of elements like helices, overbanks, or 129 foot bunny hops would require several thousand more feet of track, or lots of brakes prior to the elements. They made the right decision. Just look at the amount of track required to burn off MF's speed.

COULD HAVE? Are you paying for the $32 million dollar ride? I doubt they want to shell out $40million for the coasters. They are in debt.

Why do people assume that a 129' hill taken at 120 MPH will automaticall get huge air?

The air is totally determined by the curve of the pull in and out of the hill relative to the parabolic trajectory of the train. It affects the air just as much (probably more) as the speed.

Not to mention it'll "only" be taken at or about 86mph.

OMG I have a new sig!!!
Am I the only one who doesn't give two sh*ts about this coaster? I mean, as a coaster enthusiast, I am so far beyond getting all excited over a park announcing they are building "the tallest, fastest" rollercoaster in the world. I simply don't care. I think we have learned alot from these types of announcements in the past. When will they ever learn that this gig doesn't necessarily always warrant success. Besides that, CP already been there and done that.

^This coming from someone who's dedicated their sig to Hercules. ;)

Edit: Damn you rentzy, you couldn't have waited just a couple more seconds to push that "submit" button. :) *** Edited 10/1/2004 4:23:43 PM UTC by matt.***

Wow, when did CP add a bunny hill to TTD ? :) Nobody told me about this. You're right in that quality is much better than the numbers game. From what I understand, Dorney Park chose the "quality" route with Talon and I applaud them for this. Hydra also looks like an incredible ride with a very unique layout. However, SFGAdv already has nearly every major type of coaster out there right now. They needed something with a big "WOW" factor and this is just that. And besides, a rocket coaster was the biggest one they were missing so why not shoot for the record ? It makes sense to me. And believe me, if CP was closer, I would have already been on TTD but most of us in this area don't get out to CP so even if they have a ride VERY similar, it does us no good. *** Edited 10/1/2004 4:42:52 PM UTC by Kris Wempa***

These launched, record breaking one trick ponies may get the parks they're in some initial attention, but people eventually feel cheated by the short experience. In turn, it feels like the park is cheating just to get in the record books.

Actually, I only feel cheated in the wait time stays ridiculously long when the hype dies down. I still LOVE to ride B&R:The Chiller when the line is short. It's a short ride, but WELL worth a short wait !

Right you are, Kris! (In a big MXC mood here) Many of us here (at least I know in my case) have never been to CP, so this is something that will definitely draw many of us to the park. Indeed!

Haha no I'm not giving Patrick the finger

A lot of technical stuff !!

Yeah, you have a good point with the spiral. I can see that being a problem with the OTSRs. Storm Runners OTSRs are not like the others though. The shoulder bars are not super rigid and the main point of contact is the laptop. I don't remember how much space there was between my head and each side of the restraint. I guess time will tell, huh ? :)

personally, i'm waiting for NASA to diversify and start their own line of coasters:
Saturn Five 0-300 mph in 4 secs...
Apollo MoonChazer!
Max-Q!
if the future of coasters is to go launch-style, who better than NASA?

There are just so many responses to your post, and all of them are just wrong, so I'll just hope that some of you can come up with some as humorous as I already have ;)

--Brett, who doesn't feel like being told he's an insensitive a-hole by the boohooers today.

Even ignoring the physical aspects, most people feel 'less safe' when there is only a lapbar and no OTSR. I have overheard many first time TTD riders freak out when they notice that there is no shoulder retraint. Having only a lapbar increases the fear factor on a ride like this and having an OTSR takes that away.
