News: Kingda Ka

Yes it will certainly boost attendance at that one location but what about the other parks left with nothing as a result? they will continue to see a drop in attendance that will offset any increase SFGRADV stands to make by adding this ride.

At least PKD is getting something next year so I'll have that to look forward to & at least DC is finally getting a baseball team next year which may create even more competition for SFA than there is already, now if I had a car I would most certainly visit some of the other parks in the region but I don't so I'm stuck going with friends who can only drive as far asjust SFA & PKD & that's not gonna change any time within the near future,I've already tried several times to convince them to drive to SFGRADV but to no avail.

This ride will prove to be the nail in SF's coffin so enjoy it next year while you can because after that who knows? there might not be a six flags anything if they keep following the path they're on.....as for SFA either sell it (preferably to CF) or just bulldoze it to the ground & build a strip mall or houses on it's grave I wouldn't really care as I probably won't be returning there again.

Dude, countless people have showed you why your 'doom & gloom' predictions of chainwide collapse because SFA didn't get something for you (and why they and other similar smaller parks don't need it) are incorrect.

Perhaps it's time to get over it? SF will be fine. (well, at least as fine as they were before this move :) )

And they're most certainly screwed because you won't go. What will they do!?

Bulldoze the park because they didn't get something new? That's an all new low. Hysterical!

Oh not this again, If you knew how to run a huge company you wouldn't be sitting behind your computer right now posting on this forum. Every company works in debt, and Six Flags is paying that debt off in a recent conference call they stated that they do not owe anymore money until 2008. I just think someone is a little sore there home park isn't getting anything for next year.

Just heard the news. Most of you are saying this launch is going to be a lot more intense than TTD. The new ride will go from 0-128 in 3.5 TTD 0-120 in less than 4.

Apart from the bunny hop, this ride will feel just like TTD. Less than 4 sec. and 3.5 sec. is just a matter of semantics. The launch duration is about the same on both rides.

TTD's speed varies between 120 and around 125 or 126. KK will probably have a similar variation, maybe between 128 and 134. No one will feel the difference.

Also the vertical drop on the down part of KK is 418' vs. 400' on TTD. Once again, no one will feel the difference.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

Noone would care to feel the difference because half the people won't know what to feel for as many of them haven't rode TTD yet. I tell you what though, your going to feel some floaters on that bunny hill. If the ride was 500'I doubt you feel much difference as when your dropping that fast from a height over 400' you won't notice much.
Ah, but people WILL feel the difference. If the lap bars are the same as the ones on Storm Runner and the twist on the downhill side is the same as the one on Dragster, there will be a lot of sore necks before the train hits the 'bunny hop'.

Intamin's new lap bar/shoulder bar design is the worst design decision for this sort of coaster since the original Flight of Fear trains went into service. The only good thing about it is that it looks like correcting it may be relatively simple...10 fasteners and a repositioned safety belt buckle would do the trick.

About the only good thing about the new seat design is the loss of the wraparound part of the headrest...the part I usually end up banging the back of my head on when Dragster hits the pull-out.

Anyone know when Keith is going to post a high-res downloadable version of the movie?

They had a news segement on this last night. (NYC area news) , and they had the high definiton version, while the streaming version doesn't look that good. :(

(The one on the news looked amazingly crisp and real. Can't wait to ride this sucker! :))

There are only 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who dont.
After seeing the debacle of the ride ops in early August, I'm seriously worried about how capacity and loading times will work out here. I saw on every single coaster that the ride ops never bothered to check restraints until the previous train was safely on the brakes, and this led to a bizarrely slow 2 train operation all day on everything I was waiting for. If that doesn't improve, even the Fastlane wouldn't be worth it. Just the Gold one, and that's a lot of money for a day out with the family.

As noted above, I question if there will even be enough good workers to cover the second station. The park has been tons cleaner over the past coupe of years, but ride operations have gone into the toilet.

The following sites have a better version of the video:

That's 'cause you're hoping a new kiddie coaster is joining the mix, eh Bill? ;)
man that video is AMAZING!!! ya know, RideMan brought up a good point...i hope the OTSRs dont end up whackin ya on the drop back down the tower....i dont remember getting headbanged at all on Storm Runner, but im not sure....anyway, im still stoked, its gonna be an insane ride :)

still trying to think of a good signature...

I'm sure the trees will be blown back and forth just like the video....

Like others have said, it's not different enough to get me to make a trip out to Jersey just for it.

The bunny hill does look cool though.

This is just dumb. Didn't SFGADV just get a new almost premier ride, Superman? Why dont they give it to a park like SFSTL which could actually be successful, if given a ride like this. *** Edited 9/30/2004 9:39:59 PM UTC by jrhodes07***
boo hoo, boo hoo...and furthermore......boo hoo!

Fate is the path of least resistance.

Why is the concept of ROI so mystifying to so many?

The breaks seem to kick in really late - I think this ride is going to scratch the pain border more than once.
It looks impressive - a steelborn phallic extravaganza of a ride design. I must say I personally prefer the more poetic symphonic type rides - but to be honest - I can`t wait to embark on this collective bungee jump.
That thing is way higher even than the highest drop tower on the planet. It`s going to be a long way down!

Somehow though - the video looks so much like TTD that I really wonder if those extra feet at the top really do matter.

Oh yeah, putting Kingda Ka in SFSTl is the ultimate answer for getting SF out of debt and into making tons of profit.

Did you hear anywhere that Cedar Fair was considering sticking TTD into one of their smaller scale parks instead of CP?

Answer: NO

Parks don't care about the .5% of enthusiasts who criss-cross the nation in pursuit of the record breaker. They put these big caliber coasters where they know they have the best shot at ROI (as Gonch pointed out).

The restraints will be very comfy, if there are anything like SR's. :-D I found them very pleasant and "open".

Gonch, because ROI doesn't satisfy the natural tendency of enthusiasts to whine and moan when their home park doesn't get the big coaster. Allow me to add another boo-hoo to the already long list.

I find it odd how two years ago, TTD was THE ride to ride in '03. Now, all of a sudden, it's going into SFGAdv and it's "not worth the trip"? I understand enthusiast excitement about Hydra, Tsunami, etc., but I really don't think SFGAdv put in this ride thinking, "Gee, how can we top Dorney?" They put this in to make an emphatic statement, and they did. And I firmly believe this WILL be the event ride of '05.
