New Entries in the CoasterBuzz Top 100

Difficult to believe that it's better than Montu but then comparing a hypercoaster with an invert is comparing apples and oranges.

Montu isn't even in my top 5 for Florida.

Mummy, RNRC, Manta, Hulk, both DD's <tear>, Sheikra, Cheetah Hunt all top it, for my money.

Mako - Montu - Manta - DD Red - Mummy

Now that DD is gone, someone should build another Florida coaster that starts with M to round that out.

Maverick, naturally.

Mako is a great ride for sure. Although, I think the Mine Blower might be my favorite ride in the in the state.

To being an "us" for once - instead of a "them".

Well deserved, that's (Mako) the best coaster in Florida.

Nice. We are going to Universal and SeaWorld in January. I’m more excited to ride Mako than any other coaster, new-to-me or not.

Turns out the hotel we are staying in is right next door to Old Town & Fun Spot in Kissimmee. Hoping to sneak out and check out Mine Blower, I hear good things!

But then again, what do I know?

Anyone else reevaluate their ratings? Pretty much every time I reride; I rerate the rides. Sometimes its a smoother ride, sometimes its become uncomfortable and unenjoyable.

I go through about once a year. I don't get around very much, so my opinions don't frequently change. That's one of the weird things about this sort of survey... even though it's constantly in motion, it still ultimately reflects the impressions of riders at a specific point in time.

I don't have a better suggestion but it does seem odd that if a ride in the top 100 closed today, it could potentially take decades for that ride to fall off the list. Even looking at Big Bad Wolf which has been closed for 8 years is still hanging in there. At what point do we say that retired rides aren't relevant anymore?

Jeff's avatar

They're relevant to the people who ride them. So until they die off and become a minority among the ridership counted in the poll, the rides will stay. Of course, I'm not sure who will be paying for CoasterBuzz at that point... :)

I re-rate, even though I don't ride enough that it makes much difference. But, I can't add an "Among the Best" without considering moving one out or pushing an Above Average down to Average. Not every ride can be Among the Best.

When I rerate; it’s only the rides I jump on again. I don’t rerate rides like Big Bad Wolf, I think in the prism of when I rode it, that’s the rating it’s locked into. But every time I ride American Eagle or Diamondback, I reevaluate the experience. Maybe some defunct coasters I hold in higher than deserved esteem ( SFGA Shockwave). But my experience the last time I rode it is embedded in my mind; I don’t want to compare it to today’s thrills, because a lot of the technologies weren’t available then, it makes for an apples to oranges comparison (though I suppose rerating a ride like Demon goes against that, since it compares my experiences today against other rides of today)

What I generally do, is when I go to a park that has a new-to-me ride, I will re-rate all of that park's rides when I get back. Looking at my track record, I haven't done that over the last year. Sorry, Mystic Timbers lovers.

Hi

I ranked my track record (separate from this site, in numerical order) years ago. Whenever I rank a new-to-me coaster, I go down the list and try to figure out which are the two consecutive coasters that I liked the new one better than and not as much, respectively...then I put it between them. I haven't reranked anything in a while, so whenever I look at my list, which is hardly ever, I take it with this:

That's salt, not cocaine. Although, maybe my rankings would be more fun...

Bump. Now that the 2018 season is fully underway, it seems like a new coaster joins the list almost every week. Zippin Pippin joined the bottom of the list recently, and this week Gold Striker showed up at #16 just after its 5 year anniversary.

Gold Striker is the top ranked GCI on the list now, just above Mystic Timbers. They are so close that it is pretty much a toss up though.

I wonder how long it will take RailBlazer to show up on the list. Probably long after Wonder Woman?

Coasterbuzz - Coaster enthusiasts, but so much more. We're the good ones.

Twisted Timbers debuted today at #2. So now both of Cedar Fair's RMC hybrids occupy the top two spots.

Wow, that's unexpected.

I didn't expect much from Twisted Timbers given its smallish size (Storm Chaser at Kentucky Kingdom, of similar size, is underwhelming) but the ride is balls to the walls ejector airtime, even moreso than Steel Vengeance. I'm not sure how the ride is being received by the general public but for airtime-loving enthusiasts it's not surprising to me that it ranks so highly.

I’m surprised it came in at number two. It’s good, but I didnt think it was quite *that* good.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Agreed. Rode Twisted Timbers last week and while I liked it, it's not among the best I've ever ridden. I actually preferred Storm Chaser. Maybe I was just having an off-night.
