More than launch, top-hat and breaks.

How much do you want to bet that if it was Magic Mountain building this ride, people would be ranting all over the thing rather than make up excuses as to why it is so simple.

kraxel:

Why worry about what other people say? Especially when it comes to CP and SFMM? Anybody that would get caught up in that sort of thing probably isn't worth listening to anyways.

If the shoe fits, find another one.

For real! Just ignore em'.

I still don't think that SFMM has the right to be anywhere in the thread though.

I don't get the punch line of the joke rollergater...

Xcelerator has two overbanks. This ride doesn't.

Sorry, the "punch line" must not have been too clear, since you weren't the only one who *missed* the humor. BRAKES stop a moving train, BREAKS is what seems to happen far too frequently with Xcelerator....I was kidding about the downtime issue, and hoping that it's resolved before CP finishes construction of TH:TR.....

Haha, I took the joke another way. I thought you were trying to say the ride is over after the top hat on Xcelerator because the overbanks are pointless.

Rob got Mooshed in the front seat of Xcelerator. He was all smiles at the end of the ride....;-)

Nope, on that one ride I managed to get, I waited through a break-down, and tried to single-ride into the front....but the ops would have NONE of that...did I mention how I love KBF....(P.S. the front seat went empty, but I *heard* it had a GREAT ride)....

edit: the ride was still cool and all, and I DID get my one ride, but they really want to *secure* the daylights out of you there, huh?

'Gator - yeah, the ops do push the lap bar down but on all my rides I never noticed them pushing it so far or so forcefully that it was painful. And surprisingly I still felt like I got airtime, especially in the front cresting the top hat.

Sorry I couldn't join you...you would have had a second person for that front seat ride ;-)

Exactly what Moosh said is my opinion on SFGADV and CP among some other corprate parks. A coaster dose not a good park make!

It's the feel, The when I get there dose this park do everything it can to have most of the rides going? Do you feel welcome? Do you feel gouged? Did you get your money's/travel and everything else worth? Do I want to return tomorrow???

Parks like Knoebels, HW, IB, PKI, BGW, IOA, BGT and others I want to get back to as often as possible.

Parks like CP, SFGADV, SFAM, SFNE and some others I feel only the want or need to visit every few years.

Chuck, who reminds you that the views of this enthusiast should not be considered the view of enthusiast in general.

Charles Nungester.
Is it about coasters or friends? I say both!

I've not followed this ride closely at all, but are we looking at a regular top hat(like Mr. Freeze and Batman:The Chiller) or a reverse top hat like on Xcelerator? If we're upside down, they've gained my attention, if not, they didn't. Something different, something better is what I look at. Heck, even WT followed this. This L-TH-B theory isn't very amusing to say the least even with the height unless I'm seeing that ground straight down below!! =^D

Sorry if I sound enthusiasstic, but it has nothing to do with that. A fun, extensive ride (like Space Mountain, mine trains, or even a Galaxi) always has the advantage with me over the short, cheap extreme thrill rides. Maybe I've been spoiled by Disney or one of those parks over the years, but something with such a limited amount or variation of actions doesn't reach a level of what I like to call "an experience". Even kiddie coasters can deliver that...

If you folks haven't noticed, the brake run has been added to Dragster as of today, and not surprisingly, the track connects directly to the track on left side of the tower. Basically, the end is here!

That's because you're not part of the "in" crowd at CP. ;) It was never about the rides for us.

Not picking on you today, Chuck, just noting that real Pointers enjoy the rides, but are in it for the good times with friends.

Exactly Jeff.

Who cares if Wicked Twister doesn't launch at full speed. Sure it makes a better ride if it's going faster, but I'm there because my friends are. I can't say I have ever walked off a coaster with a friend at Cedar Point without a laugh or smile. Now, when I go this next summer with my friends to ride the new 2003 ride, we're not going to complain how short it is. We're going to see who can scream the loudest or hold their hands up for the entire ride. Now that's what I call a good ride...

If I was at Cedar Point alone, it would suck.

CP is a heck of a lot more then rides. The fact that I have went there every year for almost the last 20 helps. A lot of family memories, friend memories, park memories and such are all there.

It's the little things that bring me to CP time and time again. The skelaton humping the fence, the building thats been burning for 30 years, the gun shots that scare the crap out of me everytime, and thast just the train ride.

Avalanche Run, the Pirate Ride, Mill Run, the Beach. Cheese on a stick, the Happy Friar, Ocean Motion, Wildcat, Berenstein Bear Country, Kid Arthur's Court, Hand brakes on Blue Streak. All part of the nostalgia.

It all adds up to the most wonderful place on the Earth to me. When I head through downtown Sandusky and back past the boats and such and get that first glimpse of the point before getting to the dorms I enter a different world.

When we were younger we had to run and find what was new every year, now I just take my time and enjoy CP. Sure a lot of things are gone but there is ALWAYS something new.

I think CP may be the only non Florida Park that really has this kind of influence. If you are from Northwest Ohio, or Southeast Michigan CP is in grained in you at a very young age. Perhaps why it has such a following.

-Brent who is planning on having an amzing time Saturday at the Point with his girlfreind just taking in the little things and then Sunday with KicksTheSky, Robodud, Micheal Darling, STChick, and Kneemeister riding his butt off. Hopefully I will end the season with the last train on Maggie as I started it with the first.

Let's go ride The Fonicks

Jeff, aren't most park goers in it for the same reasons?

I know I wouldn't ride Beastie and Reptar at PKI every visit if I was alone. Going with friends make the excitement on rides like that blast through the roof. Like I said in another thread, I would rather visit the park without riding a ride at all with a group of friends than having the entire park operating to my lonesome. Just like a horror movie or a comedy isn't as enjoyable if you're in the theatre by yourself.

I know you didn't say that was exclusive to "Pointers", but I think its fairly meaningless overall. In a normal situation, you can go with the same friends to Park A and Park B and still like Park B better. The park can still make or break the park, especially when some key elements are missing to you. :)

Danny, who would rather ride "Superman's ride" than ride "Coaster #4" with the same layout

I was indeed Mooshed and it was wonderful!;) Too bad all of your experiences at Knotts have been so questionable. All of mine have been blissful (see 'moosh' above). With Xcelerator, you have to pay attention to how the ops check your restraints, and position yourself to force against that, virtually assuring yourself mega room. I was able to Hit Xcel 4 times, 3 of which were loaded with air due to my "pre-load" technique. 1) Sit in seat, but not quite upright, allowing space behind lower back. 2) Ops bring down restraint, at which time you push out with your stomach, emulating child birth. 3) Just prior to launch (yellow lights), sit upright, and viola! Air....glorious air!:)

It works, just ask Moosh or Bass.

Whatever dude, no one is talking about PKI. The point had to do with enthusiasts that aren't fun.

That sounds like a damn good idea. I went on Oct 12th and my nads are still hurting! It seems like the ride-ops get off on seeing if they can make your face turn blue (among other things)! For those of you doggin' the mystery ride at CP: Even if it is just L-TH-B, at 400 ft and over 100 mph that's gonna be one huge adrenaline rush. Yeah, Xcelerator could have been better with more track but, damn, what a rush that launch is!
