Michigan's Adventure Future Plans

Not bloody likely. Just because it looks like half a coaster doesn't mean it's priced like one. An Impulse costs as much as another ST and a half.

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.

A couple of the large expenses of an impulse are the computer controls for the LIMS and the electrical lines that have to feed the ride. IF we were to see anything I wouldn't expect it to be a major cost to CF.

More grease slows coasters down? I would have thought the opposite!

MrScott

I also cannot see an impulse being built at MiA for a while yet. I don't think the infrastructure needed to supply the electricity to the park is there. I think you'll see a steel hyper coaster before an impulse.
The grease is very thick. More of a solid than a liquid. Too much gums up the wheels and they don't turn as easy.
From what I've heard, it's not gummy grease that is causing this.

What else could add a half minute to a 2 and a half minute ride?

MrScott

Depends on what that time includes...

1) Slower loading / unloading

2) Different speed lift chain

3) Waiting on the brake run for next train to leave station

4) Different grease / amount of grease as mentioned

5) Trains aging?

I may be heading out to MA next year and i was just wondering if it's worth going from Southern California to MA?

------------------

1) Nope. We're talking actual ride time here.

2) Nope. See above

3) Nope. See above.

4) Very doubtful. 30 seconds is a LOT of time! Thick grease? Sorry, I don't buy that.

5) Trains aging? Blue Steak should now be traveling at about 20 mph if that were true.

I think ST has been slowed down intentionally. I just don't know how. The why is probably to save cost on repairing it's structure.

I have been riding the thing all summer, but Kara knew somthing was different as soon as she rode it. I missed it.

But I'm a newbie :)

MrScott

MrRiddler,

MiAdv is a great family park with one ride worth an enthusist's attention. If riding that one ride is worth a trip from wherever you are, then it's worth it. A nice waterpark is included in the price of admission.

MrScott

Hey fellow MiAers, any news on discounted Season Passes for next year?

Nice to see that NOBODY knows me, but everyone else knows each other. I'm just the moron with 101 laps...

101 Laps - A Timbers Wannabe

Haven't season passes went on sale on Labor Day in the past? 101 laps ain't bad, Jon... ;)

MrScott

It seems like most rides that slowed down 30 seconds would fail to make it up the hills. Is it possible that Shivering Timbers' stated ride time of 2 minutes and 30 seconds was a bit of an understatement? Did anyone time it in the past to see what its actual run time was before this season? Just curious.
Kara, how was working at the Point?

1 lap on Timbers, it was enough - not too "woo hoo".

I think before MiA worries about new rides or any of these other enhancements, it needs to improve capacity on existing rides, and the feel of the park. We went up there on 8/23, and it was bad. In three hours, we were able to ride ST, WW, and the dodg'em cars. Spent a few hours in the water park, 20 minutes to get a locker key, 20 minutes to rent inner tubes, witnessed a park manager using a nextel phone to yell at maintenance while talking to others in the park via standard walkie-talkie. Something about not enough staff to blow up inner tubes.

Gave our inner tubes to some kids for a buck each, because the line to return appeared to be over 20 minutes again. Sold the locker key for the $7 deposit. Went to the Mad Mouse line. Over an hour in line to ride that.

Left at 6:30PM, having riden 3 coasters, the dodg'em, and four water slides. If I had actually paid for admission, I would be upset.

It was pretty funny listening to all the people complain about CP lines, and how they would never go back. Took my daughter to CP the next day, rode everything her and my nephew wanted by 5:00PM. (everything except dragster, mantis, and some kiddie stuff.)

Yes sad that I can ride most of the CP coasters in half a day, but I may not even get all of the MiA coasters ridden in a full day due to low capacity and slow dispatch times. My biggest complaint about MiA was how "unCFLP" their operators acted.

Maybe they are keeping the track gauge a little tight on ST thus slowing it down?
Interesting article from the muskegon chronicle on tourism included this bite:

West Michigan's leading tourist attraction -- Michigan's Adventure Amusement Park -- had a slow start to the season because of the unseasonably cool June and wet July. But, with near perfect August weather, crowds built throughout the latter half of the season until two Saturdays in August reached record-breaking numbers, according to park General Manager Camille Jourden-Mark.

Michigan's Adventure's parent company Cedar Fair LP will not announce seasonal park attendance totals until later this fall, Jourden-Mark said. However, [Muskegon County Tourism Development Director] Hatch predicted that the amusement park will show improved numbers vs. last summer when 420,000 attended.

I'll leave further speculation on numbers for the official announcements later in the fall, but I'm cautiously optimistic :) .

Another encouraging news clip:

"As weather continued to improve over the past several weeks, attendance at several of our parks picked up nicely," said Dick Kinzel, chairman, president and chief executive officer. "With warmer temperatures and less rainfall, attendance was up 4% at Cedar Point and 12% at Valleyfair, while our smallest amusement park, Michigan's Adventure, had a huge month of August. In addition, the hot, dry weather helped to generate more than a 20% increase in combined attendance at our five water parks."

shivering timbers was slowed down because maintnence put on new wheels, the wheels arent completly round and the reasoning is they wanted the train to go slower this year and most likley only this year was because of the final helix was completly retracked and the trains were going much faster in the helix then they did before it was retracked
