Michigan's Adventure Future Plans

Ok so now we are looking at really only half of the state of Mi is closer to MiA than to Cedar Point So I ask you which one would you rather go to for a single day or longer? MiA will be a great Regional Park But it will never Compete with CP or any of the other Big Draw parks simply because it isn't a Viable option. Now all that considered what is the likelyhood of MiA getting a High Dollar Coaster? I'm not saying they won't get one but I would think it would never be a record breaker CF saves those for thier signature parks.

I have seen CF do some things that didn't make sense but c'mon they aren't going to overload the area with big rides and take away from thier premier park. Has anyone considered maybe that is why they bought MiA? To keep SF or someone else from building the big rides that close to CP?

As far as whether or not CF would put a record breaking coaster in a smaller park like MIA or not, I think that they would have to. They're not going to just build coaster types that are the same as the ones they already have at CP. So, they will be forced to put any future record breaking coasters at other parks they own, so that way CF will still be the leader, even if CP isn't.

In regards to what constitues a CF signature park, I would say that other than CP, the only one that CF puts a lot into at this time is KBF. MIA may never be regarded on the same level as KBF, but you never know.

As far as why they bought it, I really don't see CF in the business of buying parks just to keep them from getting really big. Even if MIA becomes a major player a number of years down the road, they will not take away visitors from CP. It will only add to the overall attendance numbers.

CP already faces direct competion from SFWOA, and PKI, and those are both closer to CP anyways. I don't think they were concerned about SF making a big park in MIA.

More than likely, CF saw an opportunity in MIA to take a small, family amusement park with potential, and build it up into another successful CF amusement park. The midwest has proven to be a great place for amusement parks, and I'm sure CF wanted to capitalize on that.

I know some people will disagree with me on this, but everybody locally I've talked to all agrees that this is what CF had in mind when they aquired MIA. I guess only time will tell.

Take care and God bless!

So you don't see CF doing the same thing as SF by building essentially the same park throuhout the country? Same rides and themeing? I hope you are right but at the same time it isn't a bad idea to build proven rides to help a smaller park get farther up on the map.
Maybe it won't be a big hyper, but even a smaller steel would be better than what they have now in Corkscrew.

However, I still see them putting in one large steel first, before focusing on some of those smaller rides to fill the park in.

When I say record breaking, I'm not meaning that it has to be revolutionary, just the best of it's kind. It wouldn't be too risky to build a B&M Hyper that tops Nitro. The technology for that is pretty proven, and B&M builds a reliable product.

It's not like they'll put in an Intamin Giga, that bests SD2000 (although that's what I would love to see). But I see CF doing just that at one of their parks, probably before too long. Maybe KBF, who knows. It'll draw the crowds in wherever it is though, I can guarantee you that! :)

Take care and God bless!

First, I am a Michigandar and I visit MiA at least two times a year from the Detroit Area. I do not agree that a coaster is what is needed right now for MiA. Improvements and more rides, yes...but not a coaster. And MiA, for the record, has TWO steel coasters.

The park needs more rides. One more coaster is not going to fill the gap. Right now, you can ride everything they have in less than 4 hours (not counting the waterpark) on any given day. They could put in a lot more rides for the cost of one coaster.

Secondly, CF tends to put the "record breaker" rides into CP, and they don't "have to" put in record breakers in their other smaller parks to attract guests. Xcelerator was not a record breaker by a long shot. Neither was Talon. I'm sure that Steel Venom is a great addition to Valleyfair.

But...that area in the back between the L formed by Timbers and Wildcat would make a fantastic land of the giants...

But, but, but....isn't the solution to any park's problems a huge record-breaking coaster?

Thus far I would have to say the technically no Cedar Fair does not put the exact same rides in each of their parks like Six Flags does. They realize that their parks are different and should be different. Whether MIA or any other park will get any particular ride is all about ROI (return on investment). They have to answer to their shareholders. Something Six Flags is possibly beginning to notice, even though they are putting in rides to keep guests coming instead of focusing in on the problem areas such as the overall park experience.

MiA is a family park, at least so far. I get the impression CP is aiming at becoming a thrill-seekers' paradise; when was the last time they added a family coaster or new flat ride?

If that's the case, MiA and CP might complement each other by pursuing different clientel.

Why a coaster or flat ride? Snoopy on Ice came in '02 and cost as much as your average mid-size woodie.

And where, pray tell, would they fit that in at Knotts? ;) Maybe a Talon-sized inverter is whats in store for MiA, or a Morgan hypercoaster, even more probable, an Impulse or Boomerang. The CF owned parks that get the most attention are in the areas that draw the most visitors. These are the parks you'll find Rocket Coasters and Gigas at. Knott's, Cedar Point, and on a lesser extent, Dorney Park. The other parks are cared for, but not to the extent that the 3 bigger parks are. Maybe sometime in the future we'll see some hi-tech thrill ride at MiA, but I see them stocking up on average "standard" coasters, flat rides, and park maintainance.

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

Just to clear things up, MiA has THREE steel coasters.

Corky, MadMouse, and ...?

Ahhh, that kiddy blue coaster over by the entrance, near the bathrooms. The name escapes me now, but you are right. MiA has 3 steels. And as many woodies as CP, one that is better than any CP has to offer.

This park has potential. What CP has done over the last year or 2 is to prepare. Prepare for the future. Something (s) new is coming, just be paitient.

MrScott

Big Dipper is the name of the blue coaster at the front of the park.

Aside from that MIA just needs to add new rides period and maybe through in a new coaster and S&S Tower Ride at some point (If not S&S some kind of drop ride)
