Mean Streak Thought

Pink Floyd Fanatic said:
Mean Streak sucks because it lacks airtime from day one. Yes I rode it in 1991! Denese Dinn sums it up best "If you don't have airtime you don't have a woodie!"

I leave my definition of a good coaster up to me, and me alone.

If you get pissed off because you can't enjoy a coaster, don't gripe to the park about it. If it weren't fr CP (and all others) you'd have no stupid coasters to ride. Sometimes you have to enjoy what you've got, not what you want.

If you don't, you'll find you're going to have a very hard time getting through life (not just coasters).

Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

OK, first off, I did not say that Grizzly is the best, and that all the others are sissy. Not at all. All I said was that in my opinion Grizzly is better than the 2 newer woodies at Hershey. That is my opinion. Grizzly is NOT my #1 coaster. It is on my top 10 list, but near the #7 spot. And just to see if I was posting stupidity(which I admit I was earlier) I rode Grizzly in the middle of the day. It was nothing like at night. It was not a very intense ride, and only really had air on 3 hills, so I see where you are coming from. But thin I rode it again at 10:00 pm, well more like I rode it 20 times, but anyway it was one of the best rides I had been on. See my TR on PKD. I enjoyed the ride, and RCTfan will back me up that it has some of the best air around. And AT THE END OF THE DAY it was an extremely intense ride. The laterals totally pinned me to the side of the car, and the air was literally Phoenix like in some places. But in my opinion, it far better than LR and Wildcat. But I am going to HP this year, so I will be able to ride them again. Its my opinion, not the bible, so can we please stop argueing, because its getting nowhere.

We all have preferences, I like Grizzly at night, because it has great laterals and air. I think it is tame in the morning, so if you rode it then, you got a tame ride. So lets stop argueing, okay?

I am not going back to Cedar Point until they throw Mean Streak's brakes into lake Erie. There should be a law against killing coasters like Cedar Fair does.

On Tuesday May 13th, I was at the park with some other coaster freaks and we rode MS. We rode front car, second row on the Green train. All I can say is that it was the best MS ride I have had in years. There where great latterals, a few little pops of airtime, and it was only a little bumpy in a few places. I got off and asked for a cigarette, it was that good. We were speachless for a while after that.

Be careful where you light that cigarette! lol

No, don't be careful ;)

Creosoted timbers go up in flames pretty fast ;)

In all actuality MS is not a terrible ride. It's fun, it's just not a real good ride.

In comes no where near the POS's known as Herc, Rolling Thunder, and RWB.

It ranked 35 out of 44 woodies on Mitch's poll from last year for me. It just is yout typical S and D coaster unfortuantely.

Exactly, Brent....

Wait a second, I'm agrreing with BRENT....argh! Nonetheless, MS wouldn't be as *disappointing* of a ride if it didn't LOOK like such a fantastic ride. Basically the exact opposite of Cornball, MS looks like a coaster with unlimited potential, then fails to deliver on it *at all*......Some change of SpEeD in the second half of the ride would certainly make a difference IMO....;)

Wait a sec Bill, this is the second time you ahev agreed with me. I mean our number one is S:ROS correct?

Heaven help us if we agree for a third time.

Actually MS for me woudl not be so dissapointing if I hadn't rode it during it's glory years of 91, 92, and 93.

Unfortuantely thats when it started to tear itself to pieces. The trims are a neccesary evil. In fact its not the first drop trims that bug me at all but it's the trims on the midcourse that really kill the ride.

They had those midcourse trims on since day one in 1991! Always was a piece of crap and always will be one until you can get a completely brakeless ride with airtime and laterals.
They had them on but never like they are now. The ride had some serious air back then. It still has one good spot of ejector air on the third drop.

I still think it's good coaster.

Was the ride any different in '97 as it is now? I rode it for the first time then, and again in 2000. I noticed a severe difference during my second visit...it was much slower. I don't remember any trims at all on the first drop (nor do I remember a heavily-braked midcourse) in '97.

Have you ridden a Toboggan?

Mean Streak hasn't always been a POS. My first ride was Labor Day weekend of 1992. It was fast and provided a few nice pops of air.

Do you think a wooden coaster (over 200 ft) would be successful if it was an out-and-back (like Shivering Timbers)?

YOUNGSTOWN 2010

And the answer is a definate YES!! Intamin hyperwoodie! One of those WILL get built if I win the Pepsi $1 billion grand prize ($250 million lump sum which I'd take if I win). And it will be an out & back airtime machine. At least I'd have the balls to build one!
Yeah, just put different trains on it so that you could FEEL the air. lol.

I was wondering, what exactly IS this different woodie technology intamin has?

I hate it when "cooaster enthusiasts" put down coasters. Why can't we just have fun on all of them?

Hey jkpark,

Of the two wooden coasters at CP, which one do you like best? Just curious.

I just rode MS yesterday (5/14/03), and it was slow and rough, to the point where I came off with a headache. You're right, if I don't like it I shouldn't ride it. In fact, I only go on it once a year. I, personally, consider it a complete waste of space. I really wish CP would stop going with the one upmanship idea. But I know that will never happen, since they have no clue how to market anything but the "est" coaster (bigEST, longEST, fastEST). Mind you, I LOVE CP, but sometimes I just wonder what they were thinking. I think something like Lightning Racer would have worked better for them. They need to remember that most of the classic wooden coaster rides everyone raves about are usually under 100 feet (including our beloved Idora Park Wildcat).

A good example is Predator.

That ride is just like MS. It squeaks its bumpy, but its not rough.

Why its such a great coaster is because of its awesome and insane design (great air and laterals) and its moderate size.

The design of mean streak is beautiful but boring.

jkpark's avatar
Goccvp1,

I would like to see the combination of both CP's woodies. But you are right, the "est" thing is getting old. I once read that CP tried to get (or perhaps steal) the blueprints of the Idora Park Wildcat so they could built the same design. Did you hear anything about that? I thought there was a possibility because CP had a twister coaster built in the 1930's. It had similar features of the IP Wildcat. Correct me if I'm wrong, was it called the Cyclone?

I do like MS, but I wish it would ride as great as it looks.

So, just out of curiosity, how do you guys compare the roughness of MS to that of Beast, Son of Beast, Tbolt, Racer, Legend and Thunder Run ?
MS is abotu as rough as Papa Beast and Tbolt IMO. Much smoother then Sonny and forwards Racer, much rougher then Legend, Recar, and Thunder Run.
