Mean Streak Thought

nightride i must disagree with you again im afraid it is my experience that wildcat has more air then the grizz.

Summer 03-CP, HP, Canobie, SFNE, SFWOA, and SFGAm.

Wildcat? Hmm, that was a fun ride, but it really didn't do anything special for me like some do. I would take Wildcat over LR anyday, though. What I want to do is go back to Hershey, because I have heard that the Comet is a much faster ride now. But again, we all have aor own preferences, and I don't want to come off as someone putting down coasters, like I think I have, I love riding any coaster, period. Just some make a better impression on me than others. Like out of 10, I would give Grizzly 9.2, Wildcat 8.5, and LR 7.8. I love all coasters, just have more fun on some than others.

P.S., if this helps Grizzly's arguement any, my friend was a die hard BGW fan, and just rode Grizzly for the first time last week, and he was an instant convert, and it is his #1 coaster, even over Alpi. Surprised me!

I am not going back to Cedar Point until they throw Mean Streak's brakes into lake Erie. There should be a law against killing coasters like Cedar Fair does.

Ummm...You might also take into consideration that the Comet is 57 years old. The fact that it's still being compared to modern day coasters like your precious Grizzly, should speak leaps and bounds.

What we have here is a dude that's pro PKD and anti-everything else (especially HP for whatever reason).

Sorry to break the news to you guy... but the 3 woodies that sit in the sweetest place on Earth are unmatched by anything that you'll ever come up with, including that teddy bear that you think is so tremendous.

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions

Thats something about Curtis Summers dieing (exactally) one year after Mean Streak opened.

I was at PKD last July and found there wooden coasters unimpressive. Cool nightride you like Grizzly, but your acting like its the best coaster out there. If you like air and laterals why then do you like Grizzly? I found no air in any seat on Grizzly and while there were laterals, I didnt find them enjoyable. I enjoyed LR, Wildcat, Mean Streak and even the Hurler, but the Grizzly was just junk IMHO. If you like keep on riding it, but dont sit here and post how every other wooden coaster is "sissy" compared to Grizzly. The fact is there are many coasters that people are never going to agree about. Mean Streak will probably always be one of them.
Mean Streak? What's that? Oh, you mean ol' Shake 'n Brake! No comment. ;)

Well that was random

God bless Intamin, Company that I love. Stand beside her, and ride her, from the opening to the closing of the day.

Mean Streak opened as the tallest and fastest wooden coaster on earth in 1991. How long did that record last? I'm trying to fill in the gap between MS and SOB.

jkpark, as far as height goes, Rattler (SFFT) and Colossos (Heide Park) were the only ones to beat Mean Steak, besides SOB. However, the only one that has a longer drop than Mean Steak is SOB, but Rattler once did but the drop was elevated 40 or so feet due to injures.

As far as speed, here is the current listing.

When's the last time Mean Streak hit 65. I bet it hasn't done that for 6 or 7 years.

All who think Mean Streak needs a match taken to it say I.

If you folks didn't have "trim brake" in your vocabulary, I bet you wouldn't be as unhappy as you are now.

I think this hating on Mean Streak is psychological more than anything else. I found it immensely fun when I rode it a couple of years ago.

Is that a Q-bot in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

I agree with General Public. If you don't like the coaster, then don't ride it.

I rode it today and found it horrible. I would describe it as CCMR on 100 ft supports while hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. That would describe it pretty well.

I think the coaster is great. I love Mean Streak. It's here to stay. :)

I've found that Grizzly is a rather strange coaster. It's behavior can change wildly over the course of a season. I've ridden it when it was a slug, and I've ridden it when it was an intense, wild, out of control ride that I wanted to ride again and again. The funny thing is I haven't been able to figure out what the variables are that makes it behave one way or the other.

Shivering Timbers is the only woodie over 100 feet that I've ridden and have really liked. Though I don't have the dislike for SOB that many people do.

I have definitely had WAY better rides on Grizzly than I had on the most recent trip.....LOVED the park, but Grizzly took a hit in my wooden rankings...

bill, wondering when the *topical* coaster got changed...

Mean Streak sucks because it lacks airtime from day one. Yes I rode it in 1991! Denese Dinn sums it up best "If you don't have airtime you don't have a woodie!" I only remember the 3rd drop in 1991 having airtime and nothing else. They used the midcouse brake back than too so I don't know what was so great about the ride. Texas Giant puts that to shame and I was expecting something that will match TG when I first rode it and didn't get that quality ride experience I expected.

Maybe it wasn't designed with airtime in mind but rather speed, like Millie, SOB, or Beast.

I am in the minority who actually liked Mean Streak. I found it way more enjoyable than lets say...The Beast. Sorry kids if I offend the most high, but I've had more fun careening though the woods at high speeds in my truck on the way to Lake Tahoe. I was cheering as MS pulled in to the final brakes, as were others on that train (so it wasn't just me) On another note, what is this about LR having no laterals? Isn't that GCI's specialty?

Is Mean Streak a good coaster? Well... I remember when it used to fill that entire central switchback queue on a regular basis.

Lately, I can walk onto the steps without stopping.

How much of the lack of line is due to the many other coasters that have opened up in CP since the days when MS had long lines? Are the rides at CP victims of their own success. Gemini used to be hugely popular - when it opened. There was no waiting for it most of the time on opening day this year - even though there were multiple hour long waits for Top Thrill Dragster. Heck, even Millinieum Force had short lines opening day My first ride on MF had a wait of about 15 minutes, and my last a wait of about 30 - 40 minutes. And two years ago, the line was all the way to the front gate - I think a 10 hour wait at one time opening day. But there's just a heck of a lot more choices as CP grows.
