Maverick work has begun

Down in Indianapolis, there hasn't been one single mention of Maverick's delayed opening in 'the media'. Hell, I had to be the one to alert some friends that were going to CP opening weekend about Maverick's delay the day before they planned to leave. They had absolutely no idea there was any delay.

What? I thought the house of representatives in each state capital met to discuss the horrid choice of CP choosing Intamin again, and voted on how this latest situation changed CP's reputation for all time?

Now the whole world has their eyes on this blog.

Perhaps Cedar Point can salvage their "rep" after all...

"World reacts to Maverick's delayed opening".

LOL..

Thats cool that they are working nights on this. I wonder who is footing the bill?

I thought it looked like something was going on in the webcam.

It seems to me that if they get this in, and they have done enough hours of testing, that it might be possible to have the ride open by this weekend.

Thoughts????

I give that about a 0% chance of happening. I say June 1st is the earliest possible.

Welcome back, red train, how was your ride?!
I doubt that one. Rust colored track? They must've went to the coaster thrift store. ;)

Ride count on the Voyage: 40 Most consecutive rides on the Voyage: 36 Day after thigh bruises from airtime: Priceless
The reason I am thinking that it might open by the weekend is two-fold;

1. We know that they kept running the ride after the announcement that the track was going to be replaced. So knowing that;

2. What is the difference of approving the ride, and then changing the track.

Think of it this way, coasters (both wood and steel) do track replacement all the time. Is the law written in such a way to state something to the effect of 'replacing track for general maintenance doesn't require the ride to be recertified', or does a 're-design' require a re-certification?

I am guessing that Steel Phantom required a re-inspection after the reconfiguration. Maybe it didn't?

Just wondering....

Looks like the rumors that the track was onsite earlier just got shot down.
By the weekend? Highly doubtful.

I don't know if it's CF's policy, their insurer's policy or who's-what-where, but the ride will have to run numerous complete circuits before it's ready for the public.

Both of Renegade's trains were installed 5/3, the park opened to the public 5/12 and word is they ran the ride day and night to get the required number of runs.

Mind you--that was for a ride with two trains, not six. A chain-lift, not LSMs. And in a state with no regulatory office to sign off before boarding riders.

So while 6/1 isn't impossible? It's close enough to it to get the nay-no.

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

You don't just bolt in the track. You smooth out the track junctions and inject grout in between the supports and footers. No idea how long that stuff has to dry.

Plus with the diferent layout, I'm sure they'll want to recheck the G's and such. Plus they may need to tweek the brakes or the launch speed. I'm sure they'll do plenty of additional testing before anyone rides it.

Jason,

Good point. Beyond just checking G's, the timing of the ride may change, too, depending on how high the new element is (and thus, how long the new element will take to traverse). I'd imagine this is important information for ride operators and the ride itself to understand. In fact, timing is probably especially important on Maverick since it duels itself.

Of course, I'm sure they've had a pretty good idea of what to expect in these areas before the old track was even removed.

Just got back from the park. Here is a photo update for everyone. There was one piece in place when we got there. There was a guy welding it. All the supports appear to be in place. A second piece got set while we were standing around. It appears that they were just getting geared up for doing the work at night. I'm not sure why, but it appears they don't want to do the major work during the day. Unless it's just a coincendence. But, I reviewed the captures for the day and the cranes barley moved all day.

Nice pictures!!!

Thanks for putting them on here.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Did anyone other than me notice the change in number of sections to be replaced?

In previous blog entries and the notice to the public it was stated that three sections would be replaced with new "S-curve" pieces. In today's blog entry they said "... to accept a shipment of four new sections of rust-colored track."

Did they suddenly change how many sections need to be changed or is four sections replacing thre?e

I noticed that as well.

Maybe it was the three full pieces and a fourth small piece. Didn't they hack off a chunk of the track right at the beginning of the roll?

Alright .. Let's say they install the new track, do the smoothing of joints and whatever else they need to do to start testing the ride again, say by friday. How the hell long do they need and how many trains do they have to run through to decide whether 4 pieces of new track are going to work out or not ?? It would seem to me that it shouldn't take that long to get the thing up and running seeing as how this was the only problem with it, supposedly.

Just when you think you have all the answers, I change the questions !
Correct me if Im wrong but I thought I read somewhere that the state of Ohio requires a minimum of two weeks of testing before the ride is allowed to open. Since its been modified the old ride testing doesnt count for those two weeks, so that means that Memorial day is out the window and the ride should open late in the first week of June in time for the 9th/10th weekend.
