Magic Mountain Gay Pride Night

This is probably why many people that just want to live their lives with the same rights and freedoms as anyone else think that the pride rallies are counter-intuitive and not a valid representation of the homosexual community.

Pretty much says in one sentence what I couldn't get across in several posts. Some good stuff posted here. I get extra busy at work for a day and a half and this thread really grew. Took a while to catch up.

And Moosh, if you want Carrie, you'll have to get behind me.

Oh believe me...San Francisco is smokin'! ;)

Mamoosh I think he was referring to places in San Francisco outside of Castro or South Of Market. There is more than just Lone Star Saloon, Daddies, Eagle, and Chaps =)

Are you MAN ENOUGH to ride this ride ?

I know that is not what you were intending to imply, but given everything that has been said in this thread, I laughed non-stop for 20 minutes when I read that line. :) :)

Awww... well, I don't have a ring yet, so it's pretty much fair game... ;)

Though... it's kind of awkward to ask now, but.... you guys know I'm not a gay man, right? ;) :)

Behind, in front...frankly I don't care anymore!

I meant no offense, and I clearly understand that it isn't black and white. In my defense, I grew up Christian, and still believe a lot of it. I slowly stopped practicing a few years ago when all I started hearing from so many sources that "gays are the reason that God allows hurricanes and terrorist attacks", even from MY pastor.

Another words, I am not totally a bigot against Christians, because I am a Christian too, for the most part, but the religion is being used, by some, as a way to press their personal feelings into those who have a desire to learn about the religion, and that's what has made me want to turn away from it.

I just heard Charles Stanley, a man who I have had the utmost respect for as a religious leader, mention a week or so ago, the same garbage. I hear it all of the time, from a lot of the most vocal religious leaders, and I believe that's one of the biggest reasons that people are against gays in this country.

I also see those who have enough sense to see what the real lesson in the Christian religion is, and for them I am proud.

On the TV news, not to long ago, the "God hates Fags" people were picketing at a memorial service that was to remember the miners killed at Upper Big Branch. The majority of the story was focused on normal people's comments against those dweebs.

Thank you, moderators, for allowing this topic to go on even though it has almost nothing to do with roller coasters. It is a fascinating read.

Another words? Don't you mean "in other words?"

Here's the thing about a church that doesn't align with you: Stop going to it. I was fortunate enough to have a pastor in college who said that going to the building doesn't make you a Christian. She also said she didn't care if people were gay, but felt that monogamy was still critical, and adultery was still out of line. She was not an all-or-nothing literal interpreter of the Bible, which was cool because no one before then had ever suggested to me that your belief system is wholly yours. A zealot can not win an argument with "the Bible says" if you say "that's not what I believe." :)

I want a shirt that says, "God loves everyone, even morons like you."

Yes, I did mean "In other words". Where's my proofreader when I need her? ;)

I did (stop going to a church that didn't align with me), and I agree with your post.

Jeff, your pastor in college believes about the issue exactily what I believe, and I was trying to find a way to work that into my last post, but I was unsuccessful.

"In other words", I don't believe that being gay is a sin. I personally believe that sleeping around is, and that could be done by heterosexuals as well as homosexuals. It's just my personal beliefs though. "Your mileage may vary."

Couldn't the popular, religious leaders just say that sleeping around causes earthquakes? :)

Actually, it was what I was intending to imply. While I love posting on here with Carrie, and she's a cool chick I think I could enjoy hanging with, Moosh is just hot.

I've seen shirts/bumper stickers/etc. that say "Jesus loves you. Everyone else thinks you're a jerk" (with stronger language).

Trying to tie two points together here: as part of a community that is being represented by a vocal minority (be it gays, Christians or whatever), isn't there a point where you show up to the rally to demonstrate that not everyone in the community is fringe? If the fringe elements are going to go on TV and say and do ridiculous things, isn't there some benefit to being an outspoken member of the community and "normal" rather than just keeping your head down?

^I saw a bumper sticker that said "God loves everyone, NO exceptions." I really liked that one :)

I think b/c I'm a bigger guy, and have been in plenty of fights (thank god I don't drink anymore), living in a very lgbt city (Chicago) - it has been a little easier for me to find the courage to do stuff like hold my dates hand (provided he is comfortable with it as well) when we are not in a 'gay' area or at the park on gay day.

Very grateful I have been given that; the stares and double takes are odd, not always fun, but it's VERY much worth it in the end. I sure shouldn't expect everyone to do that, but I'm glad I can and hope it sets a good example. Heck, when I see 2 girls or 2 guys holding hands in a non-lgbt area, I even do a double take. It makes me feel good to see.

Oops, my bad. Now please excuse me while I get back to working on my swagger.

I do, as well. And then I instantly feel concerned that I'm making them feel uncomfortable.

Carrie, you don't need to work on it, just buy a swagger wagon.

I have been reading this thread since the start and find it amusing that this all started from a question about a private event. Talk about off topic!

But I also love what kpjp said about fringe elements. This is true about any sort of minority, down to the most trivial.
