Knott's new coaster offically announced

Though track has been arriving for sometime now, Knott's Berry Farm has officially announced its new coaster, Xcelerator. The new ride will send riders up 205 feet going zero to 82 mph in 2.3 seconds. The full circuit coaster with be 50's themed with two trains. It will feature a 90-degree drop, straight down. Also put to rest are the colors, coral and "sea foam green."

It isn't necessarily that short...

Think about how much track is usually taken by the lift hill and first drop...that's gone now.

Besides, many coasters from drop to station are comparably long to this one timewise...

Lift hill? I wonder if it's just like a TA2K, launch, straight up 90º & down 90º. Or like someone said, a non-inverting Top Hat?

That inversion could just be an overbanked turn. Has anyone noticed how many supports there are? That would indicate several turns, hills, inversions (if any.)

Westcoaster has the latest update with the stats announced so far summarised.

I wonder if KBF specifically asked for 2002ft of track to go with it's 2002 opening?

Last question, how long will the trains be? If it is just two trains, there is no way they will be short, at least 5 cars, I have no idea. If so, & with a vertical hill this will blow Hypersonic outta the sea!

It's not going to matter if it has OTSR's. It's an Intamin! Just ride Caliscreamin! Not even close to tapping the OTSR!

Not MLK's words but mine..I have a Dream! I have a DREAM! I HAVE A DREAM!
I have a dream! That SFMM fans will be able to walk hand in hand with CP's!
AND no ONE cares what a coaster is and what a coaster isn't!

From what I have seen of the coaster layout (and it was very briefly), it might not just consist of a straight drop and a curve back to the station. A overbanked turn, as well as a figure-8 type twist are very possible. It even appeard to have a load and un-load station.

Also, I could not tell if the first element is an inversion or not. From looking at the track pictures, there is at least one section with a very sharp radius. The white strips indicate that the train will be traveling over this section. Now, unless there is a sharp bunny hop somewhere on the ride, I could easily see it as a 'outside' top hat type of thing. However, the layout I saw was an overhead view and didn't indicate small hills. Please keep in mind that what i am saying is NOT official by any means.

What's with Cedar Fair and really stupid names for 2002 coasters?

First Wicked Twister and now Xcelerator !?

You know, Lone Star thrills, at least they're unique names!  How many Batman, Superman the rides, the escapes, ultimate escapes, and on and on and on.....(mind eraser, serial thriller...) do we need.

Hey! I like the Wicked Twister name! But Yeah I don't like Xcelerator... Should've just come up with something like XLR8TOR...

"When this baby hits 88 MPH, you're gonna see some serious $***."

Ditto!

Everybody says that you'll really be booking, but I that's not how I see it. In comparison, on MF, from the top of the lift to the brakes is just over/under 59 seconds. Cutting off a 1000 ft. for the breaks, stations and lift, hat's approximately 5,595 in 59 seconds. Now that's booking! Not only is it around 3500-some feet longer, it's also 3 seconds faster.

When factoring in the length of the ride and the ride time, I think there will be several turns up in the air becauss the train will be traveling slower there. Hey, but that's just me.

Well CoasterMatt.  The article says nothing of an inversion, and that is because there isn't one.  And, no, there was not an official release.

I've still not been to Knott's, but I get the strong impression that they're dealing with some serious space constraints. That siad, a high capacity, high speed ride sounds right for the Windjammer site.

If I'm really working for me this year, Steph and I might have to make the pilgrimage.

To my knowledge, the trains will be just about identical to any other Intamin hyper trains, such as MF, but with neat colors and a theme. Also, just lapbars.   I had heard CP was getting a bigger version of what Knott's is getting. Now that I have seen Knott's for sure, I guess that was wrong. I wish CP was getting something like this, looks like it will have pretty good capacity too. Oh well.

MF count: 162

You know how Knott's says opening May 2002? This most likely means opening September of 2002
1. Sorry to be so "Unhip" to the lingo, but what exactly is a Top Hat inversion?

2. Boy, you sure can't please some people.

3. Why are so many people on here so Pro-Cedar Fair or Pro-Six Flags?  Why the hell can't you enjoy both and quit arguing about which one is freakin better in every possible catergory for God's sake!?!?!?

Im not pro Knotts or Six Flags, I'd say that about them too. And it pleases me that their getting a roller coaster. Heres a link to a "top-hat" its Mr.Freeze CoasterGallery.com -- Six Flags Over Texas. or Batman-The Chiller CoasterGallery.com -- Six Flags Great . There you go!
At Knotts look at this pic of Mr. Freeze in St. Louis CoasterGallery.com -- Six Flags St. Louis. Instead of where the train is, imagine being on top of that, thats what Knott's ride will do
Want any more pics? IM me wat weird86, or email me at weird86@aol.com. Do you guys think XK1 should go there, too?
This pic is awesome. If it were a non-inverting top hat where one has never been built, the quarter rolls would turn in the opposite directions & a upright crest instead.

Aerobatic planes perform Top Hats which are slightly different. They pull-up into a quarter loop, perform a half-roll, half loop, half roll & quarter loop out. The whole thing is in a straight line & truly lives up to its name when viewed from the side. Yeah, I guess you could call this a "bowtie" & the others "Boomerangs/Batwings." ;) When will we see this on a coaster??

LOL! I beet you to it!
1. Okay, that is awesome!

2. Thanks.

3. Yes, I definitely think that XK1 should be thrown back into the mix over there at the farm.

Coasters just rule guys, be happy!
