Though track has been arriving for sometime now, Knott's Berry Farm has officially announced its new coaster, Xcelerator. The new ride will send riders up 205 feet going zero to 82 mph in 2.3 seconds. The full circuit coaster with be 50's themed with two trains. It will feature a 90-degree drop, straight down. Ugh, and I can't go to CoasterCon next year..., I'll just have to make a trip to California myself. ;)

Whoa! This is great, and shows competition between SF and CF. I wonder why it just so happens that it begins with an "X" but that is just a observation. I could be really exagerating here.
The X thing was what I didn't believe.  I guess I was wrong.

Well...  we all tend to get a little pissy when we think others know things we don't, and I didn't believe it either Jeff!  Why would they want to Xaggerate the X thing anyway???  Regardless, I am looking forward to a newish type ride from the folks at Intamin.  This coaster is Xactly what So Cal needs right now.  (I couldn't resist ;))

Holy Crap... 82 in 2.3????
Dang is anyone else upset at the extreme lack of details? Is it going to be another hypersonic? One hill and back to the station? If somoone else could post comparative figures (time, height, and length) to XLC it would be very much appreciated. Anyways i already got the fifty bucks and three friends for a season pass, so see ya all in line.
Yeah Buzz Head....did you ever hear of Dodonpa?  0-106.9 in 1.8 seconds.

If you see me running, try and keep up!

Yeah, but look at the foot print.  This thing will go up and over a 205 foot top hat.  Vertical drop headed right for the log ride.  It then makes a right overbank turn diving again into an overbanked left that runs up against the top hat/hill.  You will launch toward Western Ave.  It then does a couple of bunny hops and into the station after a 180 up against Supreme Scream.  This thing will haul butt. 62 second duration with 2000 feet of track. *** This post was edited by Buzz Head on 12/15/2001. ***
Weres the footprint?
I have to study for finals however, this announcment was exactly what I knew it would be. I told you it would have an X in the name lol. It's going to be a short but cool ride. I knew what I was talking about and I hope that I gained some peoples trust around here. Talk to you all later, take it ezz, NEVER DOUBT!

Gotta hand it to you, Chris.  You were on track on this one.  Let's see what the future holds, eh???

Chris, so I was right, NO inversions? And since it has a verticle drop, still lap bars?
I have a feeling there will be lap bars, but you never know here in California.  Superman:The Escape has lap bars so that's a sign I guess. As I also said before, the coaster never actually inverts, so to me it would be a waste to slap shoulder restraints on this ride. From what I understand, the ride ends with two *extreme* bunny hops!

Yeah, I have heard the same thing about the bunny hops DWeaver. I have seen layouts that people have made on RCT and NoLimits however, none of them look that accurate. This ride is going to be insane and I can't wait to see a layout for it. I don't see any reason why it should have OTSR's unless they were stupid when they designed it. It will feature the hydrolic T style lab bars similar to Mil Force and Superman: The Escape.
I kinda get the feeling that the OCR jumped the gun on this....No official release, and why would it come on a Saturday?

Anyone have the layouts on RCT?
Gnarly! Ahhh, now I can relax as the lack of official details was killing me. :)

For me, Xcelerator  was the most suspenseful/hyped this year, even more than X & others. Did any of you feel this way?

IMOHO, Intamin is now just as good as B&M, if not better!

I believe that Intamin has been better than B&M for a while. I believe this because Intamin builds more custom layouts. The B&M layouts just don't appeal to me that much anymore. They are usually the same somewhat, drop to vertical loop followed by 3 other inversions. Then, a MCBR followed by 2 flatspins followed by somewhat of a forceless ending. Not all B&M's are like this however the more modern ones are.

Also, I have a few screenshots of what people have made Xcelerator up to be. You can IM me on AIM under the screen name ACEr12j if you would like them. They don't look very accurate though. I thought that both X and Xcelerator were exciting however, I knew about the stats about 2 months before they were announced for each of the 2 rides. This in a way kind of made it boring because I knew what was comming and while others were in suspense I wasn't.

Would this be the world's tallest completely vertical (90°) drop? I THINK SO!
Read the associated article.

It will answer a lot of questions.

It does have an inversion.  A top hat.

It has two cars, 50's themed.  Bright Red and Purple.

Didn't comment about restraints, which I can assume will be lapbars-seatbelts, thats why they didn't say.

And BuzzHead, there was an official annoucement on Friday.  They had comments from Knotts spokespeople, so it was obviuosly official.

Any other questions?
