Knoebel's To Get New Coaster For 2004?

Until recently you could check out the site of Betrands Island (closed 1983, buldozed 1986). I understand condos infested the overgrown park location just in the past year.

There are also a couple remains of little Nay Aug park in Scranton left. The park site is overgrown with a few foundations and some of the zoo buildings are still there. Very easy to get in also since Nay Aug amusement park was located inside Nay Aug city park which is still open (picnic groves, bandstand, swimming pool, museum, etc.).

If you are ever in the Chicago area there are supposedly remnants of Riverview park still left. Pretty much just concrete pads and foundations for some of the rides.

Zero G Thrills - Moved and Improved

I've lived about 25 minutes away from the site of Bertrand's Island for the past two decades, and last summer was the first time I decided to make the effort and find the place. I was glad that I did, even though there wasn't much to see... a big empty field that was choked with weeds and trash. I understand that construction on the condos began not soon after I checked out the site- I have yet to go back and see what replaced the park.

SFLAKE, where is that abandoned park of the turnpike in western PA? I would love to find it.

TAER IT DOWN!1!!!111!!1!!1!!!1!1111!

I never saw it myself... just pics on the net.

One section is just east of Breezewood. I don't know exactly where it begins or ends, but if you are travelling west approaching Breezewood and you look down over the mountainside on your right you can see a small lake. That lake is somewhere near one of the old tunnels.

Some PA atlas maps have the abandoned tunnels listed.

Good rule of thumb... if you are travelling the Turnpike toward Breezewood and you notice that the metal / cement barrier between the east bound and west bound lanes has turned into a newer looking grass median, you are on one of the "new" parts of the road and the abandoned roadbed is somewhere not to far north of you. I believe that you pass very near the one tunnel protal (and the current road goes over the old tunnel) as you approach Breezewood heading west.

There was talk about turning part of it (including at least one tunnel) into a bike path. Not sure if this was ever done.

Do you have a link to those pics of the abandoned turnpike? I'd love to see!

Actually, that link to abandoned places in the Philadelphia area that Black7 provided on page two of this thread has a link to several Abandoned PA Turnpike sites.

The abandoned turnpike sections are very interesting, I might just check them out after PPP this year.

Rob, you might be interested in this site on the abandoned Long Island Motor Parkway.
