Knoebel's To Get New Coaster For 2004?

That's a pretty crummy deal... I don't blame you for not wanting to make the drive for that reason alone.

A while back, they stopped selling tokens on the Garden State Parkway to sort of "force" people to start using EZ Pass, but they are still taking tokens until the majority of them are removed from circulation.

Yea Greg, that is kinda weird how that keeps burning underground. Heck it's been burning since the early 60's! I wonder if it has anything to do with the underground mines and it getting oxygen from them. Maybe this will have to be a side trip before PPP. ;) I went up there about two years ago. It's pretty weird.

I heard that Dorney is trading Laser for Whirlwind! This would make sense because 95% of all cedar fair parks havesome sort of Corkscrew coaster.

Since people have started talking about other attractions (somewhat) near Knoebel's, I thought I'd mention the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville (about an hour SE of Knoebel's). For those who don't know, Yuengling (pronounced YING-ling or YENG-ling) is America's oldest brewery, and they continue to brew in their original building. The tour is pretty standard, but you do get a decent history lesson, and free beer (or root beer) at the end. For those who live in NJ, SE Pennsylvania, or other parts south, this is a good stop.
WOW........! I guess that I will have to go to Knoebel's when I'm out there. It sounds like a really nice place, and not one of those concrete jungle parks. Plus, I've heard nothing but good about Phoenix and Twister, and I like good wood! :)

So is it too much to hope they have free pop there too! ;)

Thanks to everyone for the responses. I'm not sure now if I'll be making my BIG Penn. trip next year or 2005, but whenever I do, I will be sure to include Knoebel's. It sounds great! :)

Take care and God bless!

You're quite a comedian. Actually, I posted a thread about that earlier today as a quick laugh, but it got deleted really quick. I don't know who started that god awful rumor. Stop spreading that! Thats just awful to even think about.

I can't begin to list all of the "rumored" coasters that Knoebels was supposed to have built by now... a Boulder Dash-style out-and-back, a Rye Playland Aeroplane recreation, and Idora Wildcat recreation, a new generation of Flying Turns... see where this is going?

Fetterman has shown interest in the old Zip coaster from White City, Worcestor, MA. He told me that personally years ago. Although a re-creation of a classic would no doubt be nice, I would love for Knoebels to make their third woodie a totally new creation straight from the knowledgable minds of the Knoebels staff (including John Fetterman).

You might want to check out the book "Amusement Parks of Pennsylvania" before taking on a PA park trip. It has a lot of great information on just about every amusement park in the state (including some really small places with just a carousel or train, etc.). It's by Jim Futrell.

The best part of Catwissa is when you pass one guy's gargae which he has a door all the way up in the air and there is no way you can get it. Does anyone know Knoebel's e-mail address? I want to e-mail them to see if the coaster is true.
Well if you're going to Knoebels, run over to Mifflinburg (35 miles west) and check out the Buggy Museum... ;) Mifflinburg was once the buggy manufacturing capital of the world you know. :) Sad thing is I've lived here all my life and have yet to go in. Just sounds too corny for me.

I was at Knoebels the other day and by the woods near the Phoenix I saw people clearing trees. I went over the guy and asked him what they are building and he said a new ride. He wouldn't tell me what new ride. But because they were clearing a lot of trees I think it might be a roller coaster, what do you think?

I was there today and didn't see any land clearing. The only thing I can possibly think of that you saw was the new Bald Eagle exhibit over by the International Food Court. I was asking around and no one was saying anything about a new ride yet but we should know somthing in another few weeks.

Being my hometown park, I probably go to Knoebel's about 4-5 times a year. The same rides sometimes get boring but the Twister and Pheonix will never bore me. Also, if the rides don't fascinate you, just eat in the Alamo - probably the best park food I have ever had!

Since Knoebels has very few large (uncluttered) sections of land for a new wooden coaster, I would imagine that anything they build- whether inspired by an older coaster design or not- would be a somewhat original creation. Even though the Twister was based upon the design for the original Mister Twister, I don't consider Knoebels' ride to be an old design- I consider it to be a completely original coaster with elements that connect it to a past design.

Don't ask me why, but I love to see ruins.

You might want to check out this site, its got some interesting information on places that were in the Philadelphia area, some of which you can still visit.

Ask yourself; When was the last time YOU visited Conneaut Lake Park?

Thanks for the link...

I would love to check out some amusement park ruins, but the only ones I knew of in the NJ/eastern PA area were the Rocky Glen ruins, and I understand that they are long gone. The Coney Thunderbolt was eerie and interesting to gaze at, but that too, is gone.
