Kingda Ka Media Day postponed.

MrX said:Six Flags NEVER came out and said "Kingda Ka will be definitely be opening on (insert date here)".

Actually in one of their conference calls they mentioned that all new rides are scheduled to be open by Memorial Day. In which case, they have plenty of time. No big deal, Id rather them take the extra time to work out any bugs before the ride opens then have to hear everyone complain every time the ride breaks down while it's operating.

Moosh-

CBuzz launched in 1999, did it not?

Even though SF has a bad reputation for some things, it may be possible that they aren't screwing around with this one. I'm sure they will open KK as soon as they can, because this ride is a really big deal.

Patience, young coaster enthusiasts. Don't get so worked up over something as small as a new ride opening a little later than expected. There is a lot more to life. Play some video games, go outside and enjoy a bike ride, get a girl/boyfriend to kiss and hug, serve some soup at the local homeless shelter, become a Big Brother or Big Sister (well, some of you might want to become a little instesd :) ), but find SOMETHING to take coasters off of your mind for a little while if it means bellyaching over something so small.

(Rolls eyes and shrugs.)

Just curious....did Storm Runner open on time?

Fever I really enjoy the Simpsons. It's just a shame that I am starting to LOOK like Homer.
I want to see the e-mail... I think this is BS

Due to the fact that I just got an e-mail from the park saying "See you April 21" after I won 2 tickets to media day.. and that was YESTERDAY 4/16/05 *** Edited 4/17/2005 12:43:04 PM UTC by Earnhardt2***

Hate to bust your bubble but this is no BS. The media Day is Postponed to a farther date as has been stated before. I think you need to just pick up the phone and call them to find out yourself.
I am just sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo shocked. I am going to have to change my plans now. Curse you Intamin or whatever you are calling yourselves in the United States now. Six Flags or not did anyone actually think this ride would open on time?

Barry Short- the SoCal, Ohio coaster enthusiast from Virginia who now lives in Florida.

Remember the topic regarding " How can Kingda Ka open with so less launches then TTD, which tested for months? "

Well, here's your answer. It isn't opening any sooner. It straight up needs plenty more testing, ride supervisors need training, and they really want to impress NJ.

Sorry if you can't ride it April 23. I guess it'll just be May 1.

I would have to say that this is the result of the park opening early. March 25 was a very early opening date. It's not entirely Six Flags fault either, as stated before. Look at PKI and IJST. It has not opened to the public yet, and it doesn't even come close to the caliber of ride that KK is.

I like disco.
Opening late (as long as it is before Memorial Day) is not a big deal. The real indication of the ride is uptime after it opens.

My guess this has more to do with Intamin and/or the State of New Jersey.

Ordinarily, based on the other Intamin rockets, I'd put it on them for the delay. But after seeing what Clementon went thru just last year, it would be unfair to place ALL the blame on the manufacturer...Jersey is one of those places that are just NOT "park-friendly"...

Congrats. I figured you were the same "earnhardt". Enjoy your front seat ride! ;)

Who in the world is Hank Freeman?!?! He beat me out of every auction I was involved in. I was willing to spend $800 but he had 9 different auctions going and I'm pretty sure his max was up near $1000 for every one. In the end he won ALL 9!!!!!

Oh, if you need any help filling one of those "friend" spots...let me know ;)

This isn't an SLC. We are talking about the tallest roller coaster in the world. If you expected it to open on time, you were dreaming. An asumption like that makes Don Quixote look sane.

-John Hancock
Anyone else find it incredibly comical that any other project in the world if someone made the statement "it's the biggest, you have to expect it not to work" some contractor or designer would be in court faster than you can say "Meg Griffin!? You are so sued!" yet Intamin continues to operate, and I have yet to hear of a contractor go under from a roller coaster project that didn't open on time.

Any delay in the opening of any ride should be absolutely unacceptable, but the amusement world operates differently than the rest. I guess you could make the excuse of a short period of time in which to work, but come on, they saw what happened with TTD, and they didn't still start the project until later than CP did.

...yet Intamin continues to operate...
Between the accidental deaths and unreliability of their rides in recent years, I have no idea how they continue to operate or how parks continue to buy product from them. It defies logic. Try delivering something that doesn't work for $25 million in any other industry and see how long you last.

Jeff - Editor - CoasterBuzz.com - My Blog

And that's the kicker: they aren't cheap! If I were in charge of a park's decisions, there is no way in hell I would gamble on an Intamin, because that's what it is to me, just a gamble. Especially not when more reliable and safe B&Ms are available..
b&M will not push the evelope though. If it was not for intamin we would still be in the low 200' range! They are like pki they are the innovaters!
Not true. Another company was working on and building a 300 foot coaster before MF was announced. Anton Schwarzkopf was another guy who had plans for a 300+ foot coaster. Arrow was talking about a 300 footer with a maglev lift in 1998.

B&M not push the envelope? Again...wrong. Iron Wolf and Batman The Ride pushed the envelope more that most coasters by any other company...especially Batman. It shocked everyone.
