Kingda Ka Media Day postponed.

We just learned over at XtremeCoasters that Kingda Ka's Media Day has been postponed.

One of our staff members just recieved an email from Angel in the public relations department from Six Flags Great Adventure saying that even though Kingda Ka is testing quite well throughout the circuit, officials still need to test the ride and run it through more cycles a few days longer than anticipated. Therefore, April 21st will not be the media day, but a new date will be set very soon.

Well, once again, Six Flags falls behind schedule.

What does Kingda Ka's delay have to do with Six Flags? My guess this has more to do with Intamin and/or the State of New Jersey. Or would you prefer they stick to the April 21 date and open the ride before it is ready and/or certified?

Sheesh!

It's not anymore Six Flags' fault than it was Cedar Point's when they had to close the thing down for a month to get it right.

I still think they were insane for buying this thing. CP fan boy here and I've only been on Dragster seven times. What does that tell you about that type of ride's availability?

No, but Jeff...its Six Flags! It has to be their fault ;)

You cannot necessarily say that it is not Six Flags fault. Them knowing that they open earlier than the usual eastern May openings, they could have begun land clearing and land prep. earlier to give time for eventual delays and bug time.

I'm not saying it's all Six Flags fault, but I am rather saying that they are playing a part in the delay.

Ah, but in your first post you did say it was all SF's fault.
^^Thats assuming a lot. For all we know, there may have been some unforeseen bugs or issues that came up during the testing process. In that case, clearing land earlier wouldn't have done anything.

Its just the nature of the rocket coaster- especially the big ones to require a little extra work to get going. We have seen this all before, and regardless of who's "fault" it is, there should be no surprise that this came up. IMO, this applies to any organization (CF, SF, whatever) that purchases this type of ride.

IMO, let them get it right at this time and try to avoid (or lessen) any problems that might pop up in the high point of the season.

I have to agree, not only that thats what you did originally say...but also that Six Flags as a corporation has little to do with Ride Operation delays, especially on brand new rides. It roots directly to the manufacturer in this case.

When is the last time their was a topic with something to do with six flags in it without any negativity.

I mean yea it's annoying but it's not going to be like the wait was for superman the escape.- relax

I wonder when i am at cp may 7th if i will be riding the world's tallest fastest coaster. Does CP still have their proganda up at ttd or will they leave it up till 6flags gets theirs up and running?

Kingda Ka is up and running and has been testing, it just isn't open to the public yet.

I said, "Well, once again, Six Flags falls behind schedule.", which is true, they are falling behind schedule. Even if it isn't their fault, they are still behind schedule.

Just blame it on the weather. ;) But seriously folks, what does it matter to you? If you look around the park or on the website it doesn't say ANYWHERE that the ride will open to the public on a specific date. They just say late April/ early May. When they set the media day it was an estimate. So what if something delayed the media day! I'd guess only a handfull if any of the people on this website will be going to it anyway! Just keep cool. The ride will open when it is ready and not before. To me it seems not that long ago that verticle construction started and here they are testing and running full cycles. Remember, Cedar Point started construction on Dragster nearly a year before it opened. SFGAdv started construction on Kingda Ka toward the end of last season, we should be happy if it opens by that time this year!

If you can't stand the heights, get out of the line.

cp had to clear land and make it level. KK is built in an already flat parking lot.
The worst part is, people are going to complain and complain because it opens a week or two late, but no matter how few break downs the ride has, it will still get no praise for being more reliable than TTD when it opens... *** Edited 4/17/2005 1:14:50 AM UTC by Coaster Lover***

Actually, Moosh, he said: "Well, once again, Six Flags falls behind schedule." Unless you're reading invisible type that the rest of us can't see, he never actually placed the blame on Six Flags. Instead, his original post implies that Kingda Ka is another instance of the trend of Six Flags attractions opening later than anticipated. I don't seem to be able to see the words "all", "blame", or "fault" in his post. I'll agree that other organizations and situations were partially responsible for the delay; however, you can't put words in his mouth.

I've noticed that you've been a real smartass lately, criticizing just about every post you run across--it would be greatly appreciated if you returned to making constructive posts instead of nit-picking everything that you come across.

Exactly. Sure they were selling seats on Ebay that said media day was the 21st. But they made sure to say "subject to change without notice". They were also selling tickets for ERT on Saturday the 23rd, but again, it said "subject to change".

Six Flags NEVER came out and said "Kingda Ka will be definitely be opening on (insert date here)". You people assumed. ASS-U-ME. (Well, more you. :P)

So just relax people. It will be open within the next couple weeks. They still have plenty of time to hit their LATE APRIL OR EARLY MAY! target.
