Former Coney Island (Cincinnati) ride operator (2002-2004)
Running Special effects constantly 10-14 hours a day, half of the year, is sure to cause normal wear and tear. Effects break. They are expensive to replace. I wish that all of a rides intended effects would work all of the time as well, but it doesn't sound easily executable. Do we want new rides, or do we want all of the effect on an old ride to work each year? Parks like PKI keep enough effects working to make the ride enjoyable...but that's a different topic and I have run my reply off course.
Hammer, I think the ride might be shorter than you are expecting, so no it doesn't scare me. Storm Runner gets great capacity.
Coasterbruh, I noticed the same thing about the trough. I am assuming by the shape of the car that a splash would not be possible if it were to really hit the water. I also think that it would slow down the train too musch to climb the small hill afterwards.
Looks like fun.

I don't see how they could get this ride up an running by Spring 2005. Mummy was under construction for over a year wasnt it?
Mummy was constructed inside of a building that contained an existing ride. The reason Mummy took as long as it did, was the existing rides (Kongfronation / E.T Adventure) had to be removed. Add to that the difficulty in constructing inside of a box and the complexity of the theming, and you can see why it would take so long to finish building. If all goes well PKI should have no problem getting this ride ready for it’s opening date. No reason to rush, and I doubt that the ride will collapse like SOB.

Great to see them back in action, first the Mummies, now these two.
Buy one - get two at Premier this season. ;)

Yup right from Jeff Sieberts mouth. I was told while we were talking its Premier.
Hi.....whats your name again?
Cameron, I somehow doubt PKI would reuse the old fof trains. Plus I heard they were canniblised for parts anyways. With all the onboard eletronics and stuff these should be all new trains. *** Edited 8/12/2004 9:23:31 PM UTC by PKIEMPSOB***
Hi.....whats your name again?
Best wishes to the antique cars. Hope they find a new home.
Kyle Says: Diamondback was a lot of fun! Made his first time at Kings Island worth it all!

Good to see a high speed coaster attraction going in. I guess my 4 year layoff from PKI will end next year. This ride looks awesome.
After A Cedar Point trip I don't think 60mph is High speed. I still can't wait to ride this Universal type ride though.

While I have never been to a Disney or Universal park, from the trip reports that I have read, they seem to be able to pull of themeing quite nicely, and not to mention on a much greater scale than Kings Island too. But not only do they do a nice job with current rides, they re-vamp them when the time comes. There are currently three Disney coasters being re-done, and wasn't Matterhorn's face lift finished a few months ago? PKI could easily take up theme aspect a few notches by putting some work into Top Gun and Adventure Express, neither of which come even close to the level of a Disney or Universal ride as far as complexity goes.
Anyway, I can't wait to see this thing in action and eventually ride it, even if there is a chance that it will slowly decline in quality as time goes on. I might as well face the facts that most PKI guests don't realize that some themeing doesnt work. And considering Paramount had that massive jump in attendance, they must be doing something right. Oh well, :) at least we got that new coaster everyone has been waiting for since Son of Beast.
Its funny though, because the press release didn't say anything about IJ being 400 feet tall. They much have forgotten to put that in there... ;)
