HW 2009

Personally, I'd like a nice GCI twister for holiday world in the near future. However they really don't need a new coaster right now.

Thanksgiving could use a bit more fleshing out into the woods beyond the fence. I say drop in some flat rides and another marque attraction/thrill ride.

^ #1 in Family Fun - YES, but they have the Voyage. Will Koch's family must be a bit more adventerous than mine. HW will always be a family first park, but they are not going to not add a ride just because everyone in the family can't/won't ride it. My idea of a family park is one that is well balanced for all members of the family. HW does this well. I have been visiting HW several time each summer for about 9 years now, and this summer was the first time I have ever been to Holidog's Fun Town. (I have a grandson that will be 2 next summer, so I will probably be doing more "Howler" than "Voyage" for the next couple of years). A family has many different "thrill" levels and a family park should as well.

I'm no enthusiest by any stretch of the imagination. I don't know all the terms or what exactly I'm looking for. But I do know that I'm a HUGE fan of Holiday World and have been following(along with attending) the park religiously for many years now. I keep up with all the buzz about the park, read the forums and the holiblog.

When I had read the "clue" with the steaks I had just gotten back from the park, so I didn't really get to check out what was going on. However yesterday(Thursday) I went again and I was sure to keep a close eye out. I first went to Thanksgiving to check out what I could see from there. I went to the back in the smoking area and looked at the intersection of the snowy white gravel road and another service road. One corner of the intersection is a field. I could see a few steaks out there but couldn't really see what shape they were making out. I did notice right at the intersection there were some cinder blocks and some other brick like materials sitting there. Not alot, just a couple small stacks. The brick like materials seemed to be something that they would use for landscaping or something. THe others were just standard cinder blocks. I also noticed that there were orange markers/steaks that ran along the tree line just to the right of the Voyage lift hill. The line ALMOST intersected with the lift hill but right before it did, it went back into the woods and I could see some trees into the woods that were marked with the orange markers going back into the woods. I couldn't really make any kind of guess as to what was going on(but maybe some of you could). Later in the day I was in splashin' Safari and was in line for the Bakuli, just on the other side of the Voyage lift hill. Once I got almost to the top I looked out over the woods that create the border of Splashin Safari and the Thanksgiving area. Again I noticed orange markers along the tree line. Now these could be left over from previous construction, but I'm not sure that they would be left up that long or that many could last an entire year of southern Indiana weather. Also, there is a somewhat large grassy area between the Bakuli and the woods. I also seen a single orange marked steak in the middle of all of that. Of course this again could be for anything... future landscaping, extension of paths, whatever. But after thinking a bit about it I though that this would be a PERFECT area for a water coaster much like seen at Schlitterbahn and the such. The entrance could be either in THanksgiving or Splashin Safari and could take up the area and follow any percieved path you could make out in that area. It almost seemed clear to me that there was planned expansion/construction for both sides of the Voyage lift hill. Again, I'm not a enthusist at all and I really don't know what to look for, but I thought that maybe reporting what I saw would maybe help some of you who actually know what to look for guess as to whats coming next. The water coaster guess was just something that kind of popped into my head. I wish I thought to snag a few pictures but I since I"m really just a member of the general public I was more concerned with just having fun in the park rather than remembering to bring a camera. But maybe this can help you all anyway.

On a side note, I had a blast at the park. Everything was very clean, the staff was very friendly. Another status quo day at Holiday World.

All this talk of "steaks" is making me hungry.
If you look at ProSlide's catalouge on their site, the one thing they havent ordered from them is a rocket slide. Well other than the big body slides which Paula herself said are too intense so that may be an indication of whats coming. Unless of course they were developing something completely new. Zinga was the prototype tornado slide after all.

I had the same thought of the perfect place for a water coaster HoliJohn! I was in line for Bakuli and thought to my self "That hill would be perfect!" I haven't yet been on a water coaster but Deluge looks like a blast (although I'd like to see a splash down rather than just a stop).

Too bad about body slides not being high priority, the only thing I missed at Splashin' was a good body slide/drop slide.

Paula announced on the Twitter that the announcement regarding the 2009 attraction(s) will be made on Tuesday August 26.
Cool. Same day as my birthday!

Why build a non-inverting steel airtime coaster when they already have a much more affordable woodie that does it better?

The thrill-seeking park guests have been asking for loops for a long time (read the guest comment blog). Something like Anton's magnificent Six Flags trio (Mind Bender, Shock Wave, Revolution) would be a great fit. However, I bet the first looping coaster at HW will be a Gerstlauer Eurofighter or an S&S of some sort.

I'd say a Eurofighter would be a great choice. If a vertical drop and inversions works for Mall of America and Dollywood I can't see why it wouldn't work for Holiday World.

Tuesday Aug 26. Tuesday=2 add 26 and you get 226. I see a 226' drop...Wood is good but steel is real. If HW could build a hyper the quality of their woodys... WOW!!!

Intimidator 305 the tallest most hated coaster nobody has ever ridden...

Ummm...2+26=28. Who taught you math? :)

^ And Tuesday equals 3, not 2, so 3+26=29. Now, can anyone read any real clue into Paula's Holiblog? I have read it several times and must be missing something. After all of the speculation over the Thanksgiving/Voyage clues a few years back, someone has to have picked something up from her twisted mind (smiley face goes here if I knew how to make one).

"drop" ?

I don't think the hint is the number. It's in the "what" in italics. What = watt = unit of power = Holiday World is getting a ProSlide Rocket (i.e.- MasterBlaster, powered slide).

Where do I go to collect my prize?

what != watt

And how does power == rocket?

The Rocket is ProSlide's version of the MasterBlaster, the one water slide that is actually electrically-powered with the speedy conveyor belts that push your raft up the track during the ride.

Obviously HW isn't going to call this thing by the vanilla catalog title, so my guess is it's going to call it something like Power Surge or Energy Boost or Volt Bolt or Watts Happening. *** Edited 8/12/2008 12:08:30 PM UTC by Paris***

Why would they name a waterslide Power Surge or Energy Boost if all of the other slides are African themed? It would not fit at all.

Great to hear that HW will finally be announcing Laser!!....looks like skipping Dorney this year wasn't that bad after all! ;)
