How Long Will TTD Hold Its Records?

Real coasters are made of wood anyway! :)

It'll hold the record for height until one of these gets built, appears all ready to go, just needs a home:

And I'll never forget Stan from S&S commenting years ago about wanting to build a 500ft tall TA2K for SFMM. Then Arrow's shot down plan to go 740ft with the Strat Fishhook. So it's pretty clear coasters can and will continue to go MUCH higher, just need parks with enough cash to do it is really the only limit. I say Japan will top TTD in another year or two.

Hopes and dreams, I know. :)

Arena football has arrived in the Windy City. Go "Chicago Rush"

That would be the greatest thing to ever happen to Chicago(other than the Cubs winning a World Series). I would be there in a flash.

We've been down this road far too many times. WTF??? people still hung up on the Superman thing? I thought the opening of TTD would squash that arguement forever, I guess not. Still as stupid an arguement as ever...

TTD's height record may in fact last forever IMO. I don't expect the speed record to last past a couple of seasons.

Actually, I would think the opposite in regards to the records. Not that the body can't handle more speed, but simply that rides can be engineered to remain relatively forceless regardless of their height.

Hair Metal? I think not. - Click it, or lose it. ;)
Not only is the cost a factor with these insanely tall and fast rides, but alot of parks in their respective locations wouldnt be allowed to construct a coaster that tall.

The record will stand for quite a few years. I dont think we will see anything like this for a while, unless CP decides to top TTD.

The opening of TTD doesn't end the arguement of whether or not STE is a coaster since SFMM claims the record of most coasters tied with CP. In addition, people think STE was the first coaster to top 400' when it was really Tower of Terror at Dreamworld that opened first anyways. I've always wondered if STE would be a coaster to more people if it was at CP.

I call it a coaster, but what do I know. First gen freefalls are coasters to me. Complete circuit, gravity powered.

You heard it here first. CP and SFMM both have 17 coasters.

Which is exactly why I believe S&S will go for the speed record, but won't touch the height of TTD, as they did in Japan.

Speaking of S&S does anyone know how Dodapana runs?

Is it rough as heck like Hypersonic? Hypersonic seems to do everything but take turn's gracefully.

I think TTD will never be topped b/c it has had so many problems with the launch system and a chain life coaster will cost too much for most parks to afford.

HAHA!! For some reason I'm reminded of the person who said we'd reached the peak of what they could do with coasters after the standup...psh...

superman doesn't count cause it is not an complete circut

Then Face/Off, Boomerang, Deja Vu, SUE, and Wicked Twister aren't coasters... and they definitely are!

Just so most of you know, Magic Mountain never uttered a single thing about Goliath being the tallest or the fastest coaster in existance. The only advertising and taglines they gave to it were "The Giant Among Giants", and "one of the tallest and fastest coasters of modern day." Never before have they claimed in an advertisement, in the park guide, or to Guinness Book of World Records.

And just so you know that Magic Mountain didn't just call Superman a rollercoaster when the tie broke out between it and Cedar Point, Superman The Escape's press release back in '96 referred to it as the world's first LSM power-launched rollercoaster.

And I never really understood how many of you think the Intamin Reverse Freefall Coaster and the Intamin First Generation Freefall towers work the same. Just because both have an L-shaped structure doesn't mean they emphasize the same experience or operate the same way. They are completely different rides. Disagree? Go ride both styles of each amusement park ride, then decide.

America's first true rollercoaster, La Marcus A. Thompson's Switchback Railway in New York was an incomplete circuit.

I love how perception and thinking changes over time. The reason as to why circuitous coasters were introduced is so the ride capacity would increase to cope with the growing popularity of the attractions during the golden age of the amusement park/rollercoasters.

The fact that STE isn't a complete circuit isn't the only reason it doesn't count as a coaster (in my opinion). I think it's a combination of that, not having a train, not having any elements, and not having a definite drop height. There are many coasters that aren't complet circuits that still count as coasters. It's a combination of things that make people question what the ride really is, not just one single thing.

I think the whole 'what is a coaster' debate will start back up again in full force if the one that breaks TTD's records ends up being an incomplete circuit.

The dictionary lists nothing about being a complete circuit when you look up rollercoaster..

To be put on the record, I believe Superman: The Escape(don't really like using abbrevations) is a roller coaster and deamon drop.

It seems like deamon drop at cedar point will seem like a roller coaster(Have never been to cp so I've never seen it in in action). Seems like a boomerang coaster with just the hill and thats it except steeper.
