The original issue is obscured here in terms of the "contorversy"
I know nothing about the video, the legality behind the footage, etc. I do know that my father ordered a video from them, and when I visited him and checked out the video, I saw my picture on it, and pictures from 2 other well known websites. When asked those webmasters also did not give permission, and were also quite unhappy about it.
I found a commercial product with my material on it, that's bad. Since IP makes up a large park of my living, it's extra bad.
What happened after I found it is not a matter to be discussed in public. Those who also know me know that I'm a resonable guy and am shocked at what went down when I questioned my photo and it's use.
Bottom line, some people like the videos, many find the quality lacking. I personally will never buy a video from them again due to the illegally used pictures (which just happened to be one of mine). but, that might be a moot point as it seems they might have been shut down (not by my doing!, and again, that's not appropriate to discuss in a public forum.) *** Edited 4/22/2004 9:23:55 PM UTC by Peabody***
Another part of the problem is that economic value is just not looked at. Sure, it does not seem like a lot of money when the CD only costs $15 but as the number of copiers creeps upwards, so does the impact.

Hmmm. Quite interesting. So which is it?
If I wanted to go out on a limb, I'd bet that they weren't shut down, either, but instead they just pulled up stakes and left town once someone suggested that they appeared to be reselling CP videos on DVD. Discretion is the better part of many things, not just valor. But as I say, that's out on a limb.

And I found out that everything they're doing is 100% legal.
How is using my photo legal?
Myself, and the other two webmasters (who feel the exact same about this) all had clear image use policies on our sites and copyright notices on the pics!
And about going straight to the source? I did...and the response I got back....well....I REALLY wish I could post it here! :)
That's not homemade?
EDIT - Ahh, Moosh could have a point. But who'd pay for that kind of quality?

mOOSH
edit - I'm not defending HCP, it just seems like lots of people are jumping to conclusions without consdering other options.

Has anyone seen DVD's of the Cedar Point videos at Cedar Point because lord only knows that would be the first place I would look?

What DVD is that? The Cedar Point one? Or one of the Roller Coaster Adventure ones?

You're on.
There's no way I can prove my side, of course, but that's okay. Plus, if they do come back, it'll be worth the entertainment value.

Like I said in one post before, I was referring to the CP one (which CP never put to DVD). The Roller Coaster Adventures DVD's are all homemade (legally).
Jes, I'd really like to know at THIS point, what you're still upset about. Is it the 140 bucks? Honestly? Or do you feel you have a vested interest in this outside of you getting 7 DVDs worth of CONTENT that you clearly are not happy with?
Joe, hates paying for drinks lol

Or why my pictures were stolen :)

Well, Jes said he bought the 7 disc set. I don't think the CP DVD was included in that deal.
Or was it?

I'm not questioning that. I don't really care. I'm supporting Peabody (my interests may be the same some day) and genuinely interested in the quality of the DVDs (the original topic at hand)
However, if it's one of those DVD's that includes Peabody's (and Duane and Joe's) photos, then it was far from legal.
As for the footage included in those vids, I'm sure these guys were smart enough to get all the appropriate property and model releases (a must for commercial use) and permission to film commercially from the parks themselves. They'd be fools not to...
...but then again, they did use those photos.
Closed topic.
