Horse Creek Productions?

According to his (their?) Thunderhead trip report, it's server problems.

Either that or they have to update the pages to read "Peabody Creek Productions" ;)

The trip report that was basically just a link to pictures.

He is no longer a CBuzz member, and the pictures are gone.

Down is the new up.
Hmmm...interesting. I get a 403 "forbidden" for their hom page, and the rest of the pages my IE "autocomplete" had came back as 404.

Interesting stuff.

What? Did someone ban him for posting pictures in a trip report?

You may have noticed that Jeff, as someone who makes his living from IP, takes IP theft very very seriously indeed.

Jeff (Peabody), have you considered contacting them to see about getting your stuff off "whatever they put it on"? They are reasonable fok, and I'm sure they didn't do anything to hurt anybody.

Geez people, they give out free DVD's to people that contain some of the funniest coaster/park material, and SOME of you guys get your torches and pitchforks out ready to run them outta town.

Lawsuits? Cease and desist? Honestly, the fine line some of you walk as far as legal/illegal activities and what you wanna blow the whistle on is downright laughable. *** Edited 4/21/2004 4:13:09 PM UTC by Homey G.***

Thanks Brian. I'm glad someone said it. I've been thinking about how childish this conversation became for a while now. *** Edited 4/21/2004 3:23:00 PM UTC by Rampage***

Homey: It's one thing to make a couple of DVDs for friends (non-commercially). It is quite another to take material owned by someone else and sell it as your own. It doesn't really matter if that business is successful or a failure, because it's not legal. Not just "wrong" in some fuzzy judeo-christian morality code, but downright illegal.

I also make a non-trivial chunk of my income from intellectual property, via licensing from patents filed through the University and private consulting work. If someone were to try to profit from my hard work, I'd be pretty P.O.'d.

Fine line? I wonder if Cedar Fair thinks it is a fine line.

I wonder what these guys would think if I got one of their videos, made a bunch of copies, and then sold them myself.

Intellectual property is one thing, and I thought my little caveat included that. If it wasn't clear, then please feel like "just due" is being served here. I just don't think that's the intent by them.

However Gonch, as cheaply as they "CAN" be made, my whole point was that they aren't doing it malevolently.

I still would like to know if any attempt has been made by Peabody to clear all this up. I know Jeff and he's a good guy, but I think after his input, this thread has taken a turn for the "BUUUURN the Witch!!"

Gemini, sorry man. It's just funny to me that people are always looking out for HUGE corporations like Cedar Fair as if they need your/our help. These are videos... it's not like someone's taking a Chinook helicopter and dropping in and hoisting away coasters.

Jes, if you feel you got ripped off then that sucks, but I don't know what to tell you other than if you bought 7 discs with no idea of the quality beforehand, then I suggest you take a long hard look at the philosophies behind "Let the Buyer Beware".

Brian, who has been hosed multiple times purchasing things on eBay. *** Edited 4/21/2004 4:11:41 PM UTC by Homey G.***

Good call, Homey. Maybe they should go to Blockbuster, rent some movies, burn them to DVDs and sell them online. Hey, it's not like they're stealing the Jaguar right from the actor's driveway!

As for Peabody, there is certainly much more to the story. But, as he said earlier in the thread, he's keeping that off the boards.

Just to clarify Homey G's comment to me for everyone else - I did a rather lengthy post before his and part of it included my guesses at the costs and profit margins.

I went back to edit the post and (like the moron I am) accidently hit delete. I have no desire to retype my thoughts nor could I get it exactly the same as it was as it just flowed from my head, through the fingers and onto the screen in front of me.

Sorry for any confusion.

Ah...disregard my PM then, Gonch. :)
Homey G, there's much more to the story, stuff that I'm not going to post on here for legal reasons. It's a lot worse than I've led on this thread. If your curious, ask me in private sometime. If you think they're "resonable folk", you would die laughing at their response to a resonable request, but again, I'm not going to post that stuff here. :)

I'm confused, when did they ever copy Cedar Point's stuff and sell it?

OMG I have a new sig!!!
Jes, don't ever get into underground hip hop music. Authenticity doesn't exist there either. Getting something genuine in that market is like striking oil in your toilet.

Gemini, I see your point. I hope you see mine that sending an email to Blockbuster tattle-tailing is among the most colossal wastes of time a human can engage in.

The bottom line, if you ask me, is that we're choosing sides in an issue that doesn't involve us. Some of you think there is evildoing going on, some of us think it's trite.

Either way, it's between Peabody and the folks at HCP. If you think Cedar Fair is worried about videos that have been on sale for many many years, perhaps you should think again.

Much love,

Brian

Legendary, Homey G: Recently they posted a DVD version of the video CP sells at the park. Certain people have found that "questionable". What the folks were talking about above were not the videos they put together that have been up there for years.

That video is none of my concern, as I have no involvement with it. *** Edited 4/21/2004 4:54:56 PM UTC by Peabody***

And what exactly do you find funny and what experience do you have with regards to IP?

I'm guessing none, because if you did, you'd know that the biggest fundamental weakness in any intellectual property right is not defending it. Even the USPTO will tell you that.

I would be curious if they paid ASCAP/BMI for the music in the backgrounds too. Just curious :)
