Holiday World should ban smoking

What is my prize. I am bored at work and I like to chat. ITs storming outside!

As a smoker, I agree that it'd be a great idea for designated smoking areas. Infact, SDC/CC, All the US Disney parks, and the Universal parks all have have designated smoking areas. Holiday World could have a tough time implementing the system, but in the end I'm sure that it'd work out well for them.

I do think that alot of people overreact with the whole "smoking crisis", but to each his own.

No, but you should be considerate enough of his situation to make sure that your activity (having a persian cat) does not affect his health - which is what I request of smokers when it affects my health.

And it's a LOT easier for someone to stub out a cigarette while they are in a theme park. If they want to pollute their lungs, go right ahead, but don't contaminate my lungs with that crap.

Personally I look upon smoking as I look uppon any other form of behaviour: Do it if you wish, but don't impose it on others that might not feel the same way. Designated smoking areas seem to be the fairest solution. The need to breathe is not discretionary, smoking is. End of story!

Warm the Van up lads....my smoking friends look pis*ed! :-)

One thing that I dislike about the designated smoking area's at Holiday World is the fact that some of them are too close to the main path. The one in Fourth of July (up by the Roundhouse) is far enough off the path that the smoke doesn't reach the path in full force. But the smoking area in the waterpark is right in the middle of everything. My mom hates the smell of pipes, and can't stand to sit anywhere near there because the smell encompasses (sp?) the area nearby.

But everyone is buying into the hype and ignoring the facts.

It will not harm you if I smoke near you.

You might smell like smoke and be annoyed that I am smoking, but you are not losing your ability to breathe nor am I imposing any health issues on you whatsoever.

Unless I inhale directly into your mouth and you inhale deeply at the same time. And even then the effects on you would be lesser than to me. Anything short of that is fear mongering.

Ryan, I hate the smell of your mom's perfume. She should have a designated area off the main park paths. ;) Sure, it's not causing any health problem (neither are smokers) but the smell really gets me. ;)

Let's look at this a new way. Say there was a crazy new fad amongst teenagers. The fad was to carry around little lighted wooden torches. They were fed with some sort of gas, and so they emitted a foul-smelling smoke.

Would this be tolerated? No, because it's obviously dangerous, and would annoy people. But isn't that exactly what smoking is?

The only reason it's tolerated is that it's so engrained in American culture to smoke. And also, because it's so addictive that smokers become violent when their "right" to smoke is confronted. As I'm sure we'll see in this post eventually.

I think that is a fair ruling. Give designated section for smoking. But keep area where large people are gather smoke free. Example Q Lines and bathrooms and resturants.!

Hype? last time I inhaled smoked I choked!

So now this has to be about large people in a bathroom, huh?

Ok, so we're quickly establishing that it's not necessarily the health issue, it's the general "annoyance" and discomfort to others.

Again, why smoking? Refer to my perfume comment in the last post. Same thing.

Why is the line drawn where it is? I can think of a list of probably 25 things that are as offensive to me as smoking is to a non smoker that I'll encounter in any public situation. What makes smoking different?

(glad I'm old enough to remember the world before that whole PC movement)

Face it Den, smokers will NEVER be convinced that their nasty stinking habit can negatively impact others.

When, during a trip to CP a few years back, my wife's throat closed up due to her allergic reaction to the cigarette smoke of the person in front of us in line. What did the smoker do when I asked him and his underage cronies to put the cigarettes out? They laughed in my face. (If someone behind us didn't signal security - whom I did not see - there would have been four little punks who also needed medical attention.)

Oh man, perfume is as annoying as smoking.Other annoying things encountered in queues: farts, b.o., belching, loud screechy voices, and people making out.
Making out is gross too. Go to the hotel for that. They should make the Q more interactive. Games and stuff.

Gonchar, I too can think of many things that people do in public that is annoying. Off the top of my head: body odor, making out in line, general uncleanliness, letting one's mouth hang open, wearing those "Big Johnson" T-shirts, screaming at your kids, dressing your kids alike, having kids, etc. ;)

But at least I can leave these things behind. Every time I go to a place where there's smoking, I have to get a shower afterwards to scrub the stench out of my hair and body.

I think another thing that annoys people is that smoking is just so pointless. I guarantee that if smoking weren't addictive, 99% of smokers would quit today. There's nothing about the act that is enjoyable, it's simply the chemicals satisfying your unnatural need for nicotine that feels good about it.

It's funny how the people who think smokers are narrow minded and refuse to see the error of their ways are usually the first to ignore the real facts and just wonk away - those ridiculous "truth" commercials come to mind.

Yes perfume is a big offender. I've coughed, gasped, wheezed, sneezed and been generally nauseated being close in line to someone with too much cologne or perfume. Again, if it affects others in the same way as smoking affects certain people, why is it tolerated - probably because the idea of smelling good is so engrained in american culture...

Then again, the B.O. is just as offensive. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. :)

I think there are more smokers than people who use to much perfume. When I think to much perfume a 70 year old women comes to mind. Don't see many of them at parks these days!

Ha! You got my support there! Guys with those shirts are usually the biggest jerks (hell, how couldn't you be if your idea of wit is a "big johnson" pun)

People like that need punched in the head. (oh oh, the smoker just got violent ;) )

I enjoyed smoking when I smoked. Sometimes I miss it. Yeah, it's a disgusting habit, but I'm not going to tell you I hated it.

Gonchar's right on target here. People have been smoking cigarettes for decades, yet because the world is so *&%#$@! politically correct lately, facts are distorted (i.e. lies are told) and people get all bent out of shape because of it.

Edit: Man, this thread is growing fast...I can't even keep up with it! Must be out of shape from all that smoking I did... ;)
