Hades @ Big Chiefs

Honestly, Unless you sign something stating you agree to their terms. A *Ride at your own risk* sign does nothing to cover them.

Chuck, who would consider it a stupid buisness move not to have insurance.

Isn't the sign an implied contract, Chuck? Not saying that you're still not covered, but it could help them out a bit. I need to take those law classes again, or just pull out my book (did I sell that thing for cash?) and bone up (shaddup moosh!);).

It's good to know that I'm not the only one selling my textbooks before the semester is over. ;)

Never Has Gravity Been So Uplifting.

Implied contract? Maybe, Binding contract? I highly doubt it!

I'll give a instance of a race track. There may be signs that say, You are viewing this at your own risk. But why do they make you sign a release which is written to the very last detail of conditions, when you go in the pits?

Chuck.

^I think because people could say they did not see the sign and if they talk to a lawyer first, that is what they would say. If they can get you to admit you saw the sign, then you are in a much worse position. My guess is that the park has some type of catostrophic insurance for huge claims, but with a very high deductable to save money. Most of the accidents there are probably small from go-cart bumps, and the park makes it very clear that they hold the participants liable for that so no one sues over a bloody nose.
^Good point, but when you pay admission to gain entrance to the property, I believe they automatically become liable for injuries. But regardless, This ride will make a *big statement* when it opens. I couldn't be happier for the four talented engineeers at Gravity Group. They know what they're doing!!

Then again...if you go to a MLB game and get whacked in the head, it's your problem. Right?

There is NO way, not ON THE PLANET, that they could be operating without any liability insurance. Their coverage limits might be too low, but they DO have as least *some*.

Would you honestly believe that they'd risk losing their entire park in a lawsuit if something DID happen? I sure wouldn't. To say nothing of the fact that it's illegal in most states to have a business operating without liability insurance, *especially* in a business that routinely involves heavy machinery...

Nice sign, a five-year-old could write up something as legally binding as that...just might have! :)

You can certainly have people sign waivers and such, and it's a good idea if you do (anyone sign for a ride on a skycoaster - I have)....but you *cannot* waive your legal responsibility to operate in a safe manner.

^^Actually Playa, I'm pretty sure about it. Your observation with baseball games is somewhat different because there are certain inherent risks involved with ballgames such as injuries from uncontrolable flying obects such as balls and pieces from broken bats. But I'm sure the stadium/park itself HAS to have liability insurance for other types of accidents and injuries caused by other situations not related to the game itself. Look at all the overpriced alcohol they serve...up bet they're covered!!

Tell me why then did the whole NHL, AHL, ECHL and all other arenas goto full netting above the glass?

Im pretty sure, Nationwide Arena and The columbus Blue Jackets took a huge hit in the pocketbook. Or at least their insurance did.

There is a big difference in you doing something wrong and getting injured and something happening due to others actions.

Chuck, who seen people beaned hard by hockey pucks and one in a coma for two weeks from it. They didn't sue. I also had a slapshot come at me and I really didn't see it till a split second before. I ducked, It cracked the seat behind me. WHEW!

Wasn't there a girl killed by a puck a year or two ago? I am not big on hockey, but I seem to remember hearing something about that.
Yep, you're right RavenTTD, that's exactly what Chuck's talking about. A girl took a puck in the skull, which put her in the hospital for a couple of days, then later died of complications due to the injury. That is why every arena has gone to protective netting above the glass on the goal ends of the ice.

Mt. Olympus has to have "some" kind of insurance... no question.

There's nothing like a woodie...
Of course there's some as opposed to none. I'm sure every MLB park is insured, too. But if you get smacked in the head with a fly ball...still your problem, right? It doesn't mean that policy covers you in particular.

Fly ball, *reasonably foreseeable danger*, no?

What if the outfield bleachers collapsed....that SURE isn't something the ballpark could claim as "your problem"....that's why EVERYONE in business has to have liability insurance. Although, I think that how MUCH insurance, what specifically needs to be covered, etc., is almost entirely in the hands of the states, so it can, and does, vary WIDELY.

Mt. Olympus is in the Midwest, not in NJ or CA, so....

And there ya go--you hit the fly ball right on the forehead. Reasonably forseeable danger. Of attending a ballpark, smashing your go-kart into a barrier or trying to unbuckle your seatbelt on 'Clops.

Not to mention this isn't just the Midwest...but Wisconsin.

That's like a whole separate planet in a number of different ways--and I'm not even bringing up beer, cheese and Packer fans.

Just FYI, someone posted links to more pics over in a Hades thread at another site. The links did not work for me at home, but they did at work. There are more tunnel shots including the bottom of the double up. *** Edited 5/2/2005 5:23:43 PM UTC by RavenTTD***
That link isn't working for me. Any tips?

I will email the pics to you or anyone else who PM's me their email address. The email feature here does not seem to have an attachment option. The links only sometimes work for me, so I saved the new tunnel pics.
