Hades @ Big Chiefs

Drop is only 140' unless it drops more once in the tunnel. That was hard to tell when I was there. The tunnel near the turnaround seems significantly deeper than the first part, but the parking lot slopes up too. The lowest part of the ride is prelift (assuming it is not in the tunnel). However, I think my first ride I will either be holding on or with my hands at least close to the bar.
I have no real clue about the drop height save for what's been bandied about on the web.

I doubt if my hands will be up either. I've hit palm fronds on Kumba (which was awesome, but stung a little), a branch on Iron Wolf (which hurt like a BLEEP), the person next to me on Maggie and a support on VF's Excalibur with my middle finger. I don't think anything in Hades' tunnel will flap in the breeze.

Not me, not a bit concerned either.

Hands up, body loose and let the Mooshing begin!,

Chuck, who will be sure to sit on the left side of his ridding partner, my first ride :)

Well, the forces in first tunnel turn shouldnt be all that lateral right, its a 90 degree angle so the force will be pushing you INto your seat, not to the right of it.
Actually SOB's second hill was banked almost that much at opening in 2000 and it slammed almost as if the train didn't want to turn but had to at the last minute.

The coaster was closed and the banking was reducece significantly there and has been changed a couple times since.

Chuck, not really worried about Hades other than it looks like left side riders might be able to touch the track of the return run.

This was a pic shown on the Holiday World thread. I think it shows it a little better. All in all, I'm excited about this one.

There's nothing like a woodie...
That is the same pic we are discussing here.

Well one thing is for sure, Gravity Group is trying to make a BIG statement with this ride. They are going all out to make this as extreme as possible with the North American record for angle on the first drop for a woodie, this turn we are discussing, and those bunny hops taken at top speed in a pitch black tunnel. I feel it is pretty safe to say they are not going to pull any punches on the airtime hills on this baby. If there are any dead hills, I would think it would be unintentional.

Since, you posted that link, I posted a different picture. The one I posted from Onlinecentral was better, IMO. That is why I posted it, because someone asked for a different view, not to overshadow your post.

There's nothing like a woodie...
That was just in response to the post above me and he was asking for the start of the turn in the shot you posted which is on page 11 of this thread. I posted that pic in the HW thread and I got it here.

Assuming that all the reports of Mt Olympus *sub-par coaster maintenance* are correct, the gang from GG may just need to set up a branch office in the Dells to keep up with this thing, LOL...

Looks totally INSANE....can't wait! :)

Just bring it :)

I've personally never seen a Sub par reference to the maintence of Dells woodies. Service yes but I've only seen compliments on the way the coasters ran.

Chuck

Keeping woodies running smooth: Great

Checking your lap bar: Not so good

Or so I've been told...

The woodie maintenance is about as good as anywhere, but that could be due to lack of use and the often less than full trains. They don't always check your bars, but they usually do.

Good to hear, I could swear I've seen at least a couple TRs mentioning *lack of maintenance roughness* on their coasters...

I can, and DO, check my own restraints, but I've yet to find a wooden coaster where I was allowed to get out and straighten messed-up trackwork...;)

I asked the guy who took those tunnel pics if I was right that there was a double up out of the tunnel and he said yes. There is no pic of it that I know of, but this should give you an idea. Here is the tunnel before it was covered over. You can see how deep it is before it comes up. Here is the track coming out of the tunnel. That flat track starting to lean into the turn for the turnaround is the middle of the double up. It is about the level of the highest concrete floor in the first pic. Obviously it comes up from the bottom in that open trench and you all know about the speed. This is just crazy.

That photos shows the first "landing" of the double up.

And to think we didn't even rate a new FLAT RIDE a year in '01 and '02...now the upper Midwest will average a new coaster a year from '03-'07 should the VF rumors prove true.

Did I just see a pig flying past my window? ;)
