Green Vekoma track settles in the snow at Six Flags Ohio

Posted | Contributed by Chip Wood

Sure looks like Vekoma to me!

All kinds of pics and even a bit of speculation about the ride's name and theme. If there were any doubts that a Flying Dutchman would be dropped into Northeast Ohio's Six Flags representative, you can snuff them out now.

It's all but official, and you can check out all the pics and info by heading over to Refreshinglook.com.

I say it's a Riddler. Location really doesn't matter IMHO. Let's not give Six Flags too much credit about being original.

Now somone has to figure out what the layout will be like!
It is a Flying Dutchman. I have been on Stealth and the ouside track is just like the green track in SFO's parking lot.

"Is Six Flags Elitch Gardens getting any new coasters sometime."
It coulde be themed to Joker, but with it being right next to SuperMan and it is green, Im think more along the line oF Kryptonite.

Kryptonite? eh
that would be amazing!
Just think Kryptonite thunder or something along those lines! :)
I honestly think its flying coaster since its almost as tall as Stealth,i'd say its a copy of it! *** This post was edited by montu on 12/27/2000. ***
As far as the location issue goes, SFSTL put their Batman ride at the front of the park and Mr Freeze closer to the rear of the park. Wouldn't be the first time that they done a split up. In reality though, would you want them close together? If you space them out, you can create a longer lasting theme of DC Comics characters. Just my opinion.
Why would Six Flags put in a Paramount clone?
It has got to be a FD. Why would SFO put in a invertigo when they have a Boomerang? For the name im hoping for Green Lantern: (with a nice subtitle), or Kyptonite. Also wouldnt it be sweet for the green track to glow bright at night if it was named Kyptonite. I think it would. I also for sure think it not be named after Joker or Riddler or anyother Batman villian. One it wouldn't fit in that area of the park, and two neither of them or any of them fly. It would just be really stupid to have a name like "Riddler's Riddilin Flight," wouldn't it? Sounds like The Riddler was put on ritilin and its going to be boring and lame.

Heres a name or two:

PHANTOMS REVENGE!

or (more likely)

Krypton Comet
(for SFA has a Chaos named it)
This won't be a paramount clone it will be a Vekoma clone.

NOTICE!!!!

Looks like there are sections of this track that bends in a "concave" manner. The invertigo track has no point where the track is bent concave, only convex.

Does that make sense???

And this track is 100% Vekoma. Rideman pointed out the double bolting style at the ends of the rails.
Riddler in SFMM is not in Gotham city it is in the Movie District.
Max Lance asked why it is called a Flying Dutchman. Well, Vekoma is from Holland and they created this ride, so there you go. I think this could be a Riddler themed ride after watching a video of Riddler's Revenge.
ddog:Why would Six Flags put in a Paramount clone?

HHMMHH

they have lets see: jokers jinx,poltergeist-outer limits. two-face-invertigo. THATS ALL BUT THEY COPIED DISNEY.

Very good point, john peck.

As for the themeing, I still believe this will be a Riddler in some way shape or form. It just makes too much sense espeically if you think about a possible storyline. For example, you get on the ride expecting it to be a backwards coaster. But wait! Before you leave the station, the seats roll backwards and now you're on your back. Now you think this is a backwards on-your-back ride. But wait again! At the top of the lift the train rolls over so you're in a prone position with nothing below you but air. The Riddler has his revenge!

Just a thought.

A Riddler theme has to be one of the front-runners because it does make so much sense. The fact that SFinc. has completely over-used the Riddler theme lends much credibility to this particular guess at a name.

BUT, I have a few points to make concerning all this:

1) Riddler would belong more in the 'Gotham' area near Batman- on the other side of the park. That being said, when has positioning ever affected theme choices made by SF? So, even if the Riddler winds up in Metropolis other than Gotham, I wouldn't be shocked. The colors could certainly play into that choice.

2) Since SF HAS used the Riddler theme before, I still think there's a chance that the entire corp. decides to pick a new 'Hero of the year' in their themes- particularly for promotional purposes. If we (soley as enthusiasts) see a new version of Riddler there's probably no reason to investigate immediately. If we see a Green Lantern or OTHER DC character- we become intrigued. Just a thought.

3) Riddler doesn't 'himself' actually fly- Green Lantern does. Again, the world of comics and the world of coasters don't seem to cross each other too much in the sense of verasimilitude- but it is something to consider. Green Lantern does indeed fly and has flown and faught at the side of Superman in the comics.

The most probable location of this new 'flyer' is going to be right next to (and possibly even interacting with) Superman. Take that into account.

4) We might not even see a new DC hero come into the park. Matter of fact I think the odds are quite against it for some reasons. Something lame and generic like "X-Flyer" or "X-Flight" has been bantered around between park employees in the know. Sucks, and shows the park's general lack of BRAINS in some instances- but could be the reality.

ALL I KNOW is that I would absolutely LOVE to see Green Lantern make a grand entrance into SFO.

Can't always get what ya want :).

I notice something. With the addition of this new coaster by Vekoma that gives SixFlagsOhio the only park that I know of with 3 Vekoma rides. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone.
Hmmm...
Kentucky Kingdom had a Vekoma Boomerang, and now has a Ferris wheel, a Carousel, an SLC, a Roller Skater, and a Waikiki Wave all from Vekoma. Darien Lake has an SLC, a Boomerang, and a Wheel. Geauga has only the SLC, Boomerang, and New Ride.

Who notes that Cedar Point seems to be the Arrow champ, with three car rides, a flume, a Shoot-The-Chute, and five coasters...but only one ride (Woodstock Express) from Vekoma.
Wow, I guess Kentucky Kingdom has the most Vekoma rides. No wonder noone goes there....Just kidding, ha!
